Donald Trump to pay $2 million to settle New York Attorney General civil lawsuit against Trump Foundation and his childrenBy Erica Orden Updated 1:29 PM ET, Thu November 7, 2019 (CNN) A judge ordered President Donald Trump to pay $2 million to a collection of nonprofit organizations as part of a settlement with the New York state attorney general's office to resolve a civil lawsuit that alleged "persistent" violations of charities law that included unlawful coordination with the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, according to a court filing Thursday. Filed in June 2018, the lawsuit alleged that the President and his three eldest children -- Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric -- violated federal and state campaign finance laws and abused the Donald J. Trump Foundation's tax-exempt status. According to the lawsuit, the Trumps allowed the foundation to be used "as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests." The settlement comes in the wake of an agreement by the foundation in December to dissolve under judicial supervision.Attorneys for the charity had said that "all of the money raised by the Foundation went to charitable causes to assist those most in need," and accused the attorney general's office of political motivation, citing campaign trail comments made by Attorney General Letitia James, who took office in January. Trump himself had vowed to fight the lawsuit, tweeting last year, "I won't settle this case!" (me: Well he did settle!!)The attorney general's office had sought several outcomes, including $2.8 million in restitution, plus penalties, and a ban on Trump and his children serving on the board of any other New York nonprofit. This story is breaking and will be updated. ** www.cnn.com/2019/11/07/politics/trump-settlement-trump-foundation-new-york/index.htmlYES!!!

If all the money went where it was supposed to go, let's see all of the financial records.
And if Trump fights he, he'd better pay for his own damn attorney

I actually read that he had to pay the full amount personally, not from any business's, and saw no mention of the children being responsible. Although, I won;t hold my breath that he writes the check. I hope the set a deadline for the payment, so the creditors can seize assets.

If you read what the case was about, what the charges were, what trump et al did and what the judge had to rule about it, it’s like what he was doing with the Ukraine funding—-using other people money to benefit himself personally and politically.
He is, was, always will be a complete and dishonest fraud.

Here's more. President Trump on Thursday lashed out at New York's Democratic attorney general, accusing Letitia James of “deliberately mischaracterizing” a settlement in a lawsuit involving his charity for “political purposes.”“I am the only person I know, perhaps the only person in history, who can give major money to charity ($19M), charge no expense, and be attacked by the political hacks in New York State. No wonder why we are all leaving!” Trump said in a statement issued on Twitter Thursday evening.
“Every penny of the $19 million raised by the Trump Foundation went to hundreds of great charitable causes with almost no expenses. The New York Attorney General is deliberately mischaracterizing this settlement for political purposes,” the president continued.** A Manhattan judge earlier Thursday ordered Trump to pay $2 million to nonprofit groups as part of a settlement in a civil lawsuit filed by the New York attorney general’s office last year that alleged he used his charity’s funds for personal and political means. The dispute centered on $2.8 million raised by the Trump Foundation at a 2016 fundraiser for military veterans.Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla ruled Thursday that Trump “breached his fiduciary duty to the Foundation” by allowing “his campaign to orchestrate the Fundraiser, allowing his campaign, instead of the Foundation, to direct distribution of the Funds, and using the Fundraiser and distribution of the Funds to further Mr. Trump’s political campaign.” ** Trump on Thursday attacked the James as well as Underwood and her processor, Eric Schneiderman, who resigned amid accusations of physical abuse. Trump accused them of targeting him for political purposes. Trump also criticized James for not investigating the Clinton Foundation – the charity founded by his former 2016 Democratic presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, and former President Bill Clinton. “It has been 4 years of politically motivated harassment – first by lightweight AG Schneiderman, prior to his resignation for beating up women – then AG Underwood, who was impossible to deal with, and now AG Letitia James, who does not acknowledge that we gave 100% of the funds to great charities, but refuses to investigate the Clinton Foundation with all of its problems,” Trump said. Trump also said he would be “happy to donate” $2 million to eight charities, namely Army Emergency Relief; Children’s Aid Society; City Meals on Wheels; Give an Hour; Martha’s Table; United Negro College Fund; United Way of Capital Area; and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. ** thehill.com/homenews/administration/469540-trump-hits-political-hacks-in-new-york-after-settling-trumpHe used Foundation money at other charitable functions to buy his portraits and then hung them in his buildings... THERE is MORE: dt has to write a statement saying what he did with the monies....... Hope the judge doesn't pass out holding is breath waiting for dt to do it. lucyg

I knew that rigged fundraiser was going to bite him in his amples.
I'm glad to see the news of the settlement, though I think it should have been larger if they want to deter this type of behavior. Making the settlement less than the money fooled with makes it more appealing for others to try these scams.

"Among Mr. Trump’s admissions in court papers: The charity gave his campaign complete control over disbursing the $2.8 million that the foundation had raised at a fund-raiser for veterans in Iowa in January 2016, only days before the state’s presidential nominating caucuses. The fund-raiser, he acknowledged, was in fact a campaign event. ... Under its terms, Mr. Trump’s lawyers agreed to give the Trump Foundation’s remaining assets of $1.7 million to a group of charities that have no connection to the president or his family. They included the Children’s Aid Society, Citymeals on Wheels, the United Negro College Fund, the United Way of the National Capital Area and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The $2 million in damages Justice Scarpulla awarded, which were akin to a fine, were to be paid to those same groups. Both sides agreed that three of Mr. Trump’s children who were officers of the foundation — Donald Trump, Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump — will undergo training in order to ensure they do not engage in similar improprieties. As board members of the foundation, the president’s children were named as defendants in the lawsuit. Though the board was supposed to oversee the foundation’s expenditures, Mr. Trump admitted that it never met over a period of nearly two decades.Mr. Trump agreed that any charity he becomes involved with in the future will have a majority of independent directors, lawyers with expertise in nonprofit law and an accounting firm to monitor its grants and expenses. Ms. James hailed the court’s decision and the resolution of the lawsuit as “a major victory” that would send a warning to “those who would abuse charities for personal gain.” Mr. Trump, she said, had used the foundation as “a piggy bank to promote his political interests.” She added: “No one is above the law — not a businessman, not a candidate for office, and not even the president of the United States.” In a statement, a spokesman for the Trump Foundation attacked the original lawsuit as “politically motivated.” (All three of the New York attorneys general who worked on the case were Democrats.) The foundation also portrayed the damages awarded by Justice Scarpulla as a “contribution,” adding that it was “pleased to donate an additional $2 million” to “worthy organizations.”" www.nytimes.com/2019/11/07/nyregion/trump-charities-new-york.htmlThey can't stop lying - even about the settlement itself.
