Taylor and Kent's testimony is achingly clear and devastating to all of us dwelling in reality. Those who aren't will not be swayed. What struck me in the pregame was a pundit's statement that Republican senators were going on record saying they weren't going to even watch the proceedings. This is NOT a partisan exercise and to say this is reprehensible and a dereliction of their duty as elected officials. I agree with the part I bolded. It infuriates me and pisses me off. If Trump IS formally impeached, these f*ckers will be his jury, and they won't even watch??? Especially after they bitched and moaned about the secret hearings in the basement of the capitol. Now, they are public, and they won't watch? Disgusting.

Impeachment Will Come Down to These TwoOne is a decorated combat veteran. The other was called an “idiot” by his own political ally. Margaret Carlson Updated 11.13.19 7:26AM ET / Published 11.13.19 4:32AM ET As open impeachment hearings begin Wednesday, don’t lose sight of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a patriot, and Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican. As Jordan is on the rise, newly elevated to the Intelligence Committee for his well-earned reputation as a partisan attack dog, Vindman, the Ukraine expert who actually sat in on the call in which Trump tried to bribe that country’s president into doing his dirty political work in exchange for the release of $400 million in military aid, is in trouble and likely to be relieved of his duties at the NSC as a thank-you for his service. That’s what the fourth NSC director in three years, rookie Robert O’Brien, blurted out when Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan asked if the top expert on Ukraine would continue in his post. “My understanding is he, hat Colonel Vindman, is detailed from the Department of Defense, so everyone who’s detailed at the NSC, people are going to start going back to their own departments and we’ll bring in new folks,” O'Brien said. ** more at link for members: www.thedailybeast.com/alexander-vindman-and-jim-jordan-are-the-faces-of-the-impeachment-fight?ref=scrollMEMBERS ONLY( I cannot access the rest but.....................) GOP hopes ‘idiot’ Jim Jordan will smear Lt. Col. Vindman in order to save Trump: report Published 4 hours ago on November 13, 2019By Tom Boggioni In a scathing column for the Daily Beast, longtime political columnist Margaret Carlson said the Republican Party is hoping and praying that embattled Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) will somehow successfully smear and disrupt the testimony of key impeachment witness Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman in an effort to derail the impeachment of Donald Trump. This, as Carlson notes, despite the fact that many in the Republican Party loathe Jordan, who was once called an “idiot” by former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH). ** “Trump already announced his intention to attack Vindman as a partisan hack after the wounded combat veteran with a Purple Heart voluntarily came for his deposition two weeks ago dressed in full uniform and was escorted inside by Capitol Police acting as an honor guard. In his opening statement, Vindman testified that he reported his concerns about the call up the chain of command until he ran into a political appointee who told him never to speak of it again and stashed the full transcript in an inaccessible top secret server,” she explained. “That’s where Jordan comes in.” ** With that, she noted Jordan’s own legal issues, pointing out, “His promotion comes just as a new lawsuit revives charges that when he was the assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University from 1987 to 1995, he ignored pleas from his wrestlers to do something about the team physician, Dr. Richard Strauss. Strauss was to OSU wrestlers as Dr. Larry Nassar was to the University of Michigan gymnasts, using his position to abuse 177 students according to the university’s investigation released last spring.” “Now Jordan finds himself working alongside another man of questionable character, summoned to impeach witnesses of unimpeachable character. Vindman is one of the parade of career military and civil servants including acting Ambassador William Taylor, George Kent, Fiona Hill and Laura Cooper who will testify that Trump’s so called ‘perfect’ call diminished our national security and enhanced Russia’s,” she charged“Jordan and his team intend to treat Vindman as if the servant and patriot is a fixer and crook like Michael Cohen, trying to stay out of jail by ratting on the boss. They want to put the motive of the witnesses on trial, instead of the actions of Trump, she continued, before tersely concluding, “May the better team win.” ** more at links: www.rawstory.com/2019/11/gop-hopes-idiot-jim-jordan-will-smear-lt-col-vindman-in-order-to-save-trump-report/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2981&recip_id=304309&list_id=1

Great republicans have put up their big oversized posters with their propaganda that doesn’t address anything the impeachment is about!

I'm scared to even watch. Nothing sticks to him. I want him out so bad and am afraid to even get my hopes up. How sad is that? The senate is not going to impeach him. Literally nothing will change. Sorry to be Debbie downer but that corrupt asshole isn’t getting kicked out of the White House today. I am surprised that this is being celebrated. He will not be convicted in the Senate unless:
1. Public sentiment turns against him to the point where people will vote to remove any senators who still support him. 2. Public sentiment turns against him to the point where enough people who would have voted R will choose to stay home - which will cost the downballot R's to lose their seats.
So what is the point of these public hearings? Simple...there are a lot of people out there who are independents or middle of the road types who haven't been paying attention all along. They haven't been following and have no idea of the corruption that has been happening. Now that these hearings are on all of the channels, all day - and will be the big story every night on the evening news - these people will be exposed to this information.
The Trump base will never turn on him. But you can't win with only the Trump base - you need some of the independent voters as well, and many of them aren't going to be interested in getting the Fox spin on this.

Correct. I flipped to our local Fox News who is running the impeachment hearings and the commentator was saying that even with what Taylor and Kent testified to, still isn’t anything to impeach. 🤯🤬

1. It was perfectly ok for trump to ask for Investigations 2. But.......Hillary 3. Obama....this that snd the other
All of which have ZERO to do with what trump has done.

Nunes was just talking about ... Who knows if it valid or not. One of those names is likely unknown the vast majority of the American public: Democratic National Committee consultant Alexandra Chalupa. But Politico revealed Tuesday with a new interview that Chalupa is actually willing to testify — and wants to call the Republicans’ “bluff.”“I’m on a mission to testify,” she said. ** Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American, says she did work at the Ukrainian embassy in 2016 to do research on Manafort. But she denies that she was conspiring with Ukrainian officials, saying the assistance they provided was minimal and that they didn’t want to interfere in the U.S. election. The extent of her involvement is somewhat disputed, as Politico noted, and Republicans have jumped on the controversy: ** Chalupa now says that the allegations of Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 election are another strand of Kremlin disinformation. “The whole story originated with the Kremlin,” she told Politico. She said she had been sounding the “alarm bells” about Manafort since 2014, since Ukrainians new how dangerous he was. One claim often overlooked as Republicans accuse Democrats of “colluding” with Ukraine is that it’s Manafort who acted as an undisclosed foreign agent for Ukraine, promoting the interests of the pro-Russia former President Viktor Yanukovych. Even if the strongest allegations against Chalupa were proven, they’d be substantially less shocking than the top official in the Trump campaign being secretly on the payroll for Russian interests. House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) seems unlikely to permit Republican witnesses that are viewed as a distraction the case at hand to appear during the public impeachment proceedings. It’s unclear if Chalupa’s apparent willingness to testify — assuming she’s not bluffing — would convince him otherwise. ** www.rawstory.com/2019/11/republicans-asked-for-a-witness-to-undermine-impeachment-but-she-wants-to-call-their-bluff/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2980

I just do NOT understand what the Republican questions are trying to do... they're asking Ambassador Taylor about stuff that has nothing to do with what he knows, and asking him to do things like make 'suppositions' about what Trump might have thought? how ridiculous!! ETA: this, from the Trump thread, explains it... I really did wonder why they aren't asking questions about things they actually know anything about. Dan Pfeiffer: The Republicans are much more interested in persuading Trump of their loyalty than in persuading the public of Trump’s innocence. What a bunch of cowards. Showing their loyalty to the biggest coward of the group.

I'm noticing the different headlines: From the Right: "'Solemn Undertaking': Trump's Impeachment Hearings Go Public" ( Newsmax) From the Left: "Trump lashes out at Democrats before historic impeachment proceeding is set to begin" ( WashPo) From the Center: "Witnesses arrive as Trump impeachment probe goes public in political drama" ( Reuters) You can tell a lot about bias from the headlines.

Call all GOP senators and encourage them to ask for a secret ballot vote. Only need 3 requests then McConnell would have to comply.

I am sooooo glad he responded the way he did! Because no matter how much Republicans TRY to make this out to be some made-up thing that all these people just imagined, Donald Trump himself said, and did, the things he did!!! So what if Taylor or Kent didn't personally hear DT HIMSELF say it? That doesn't mean it didn't happen. ALL of the rest of it-- conversations, phone calls, cover-ups, secret servers, etc. was everyone just TRYING to make their concerns about the situation known-- and the WH's repeated efforts to stop that concern from being made public. If nothing he did was wrong, then he SURELY would WANT to testify!! Right?!? But somehow, it's not supposed to be required, because why- because he's Donald Trump and therefore special, I guess is what we're supposed to believe.

I think what will finally bring him down are his tax records when they are made available. That's how they finally put Capone in prison. The courts so far are ruling to release them.

Some attitudes are slowly changing........... Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), an adviser to Senate Republican leadership, says there are not enough votes in the Senate to immediately dismiss any articles of impeachment passed by the House against President Trump.Republicans have discussed the possibility of quickly dismissing charges against Trump, which would just require 51 votes. But Cornyn said that would be a difficult hurdle for the GOP, which holds 53 seats in the Senate. “There’s some people talking about trying to stop the bill, dismiss charges basically as soon as they get over here. I think that’s not going to happen. That would require 51 votes,” Cornyn told reporters Wednesday. “I think it would be hard to find 51 votes to cut the case off before the evidence is presented,” he added.
Cornyn also said it would be better to have a trial in the Senate if the House impeaches Trump. ** Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he can’t make a decision now as to whether he would support a motion to dismiss but he indicated he would oppose shutting down arguments before both sides have a chance to make their case. “I’m not going to support cutting off a trial because of somebody’s politics,” he said. ** thehill.com/homenews/senate/470301-gop-senator-republicans-dont-have-votes-to-dismiss-impeachment-articles
