Does he like soups? I know it's summer, but a well seasoned vegetable soup with chicken or beef can be quite filling and not a lot of carbs.

Prayers for your brother, you and your family. I'm so sorry! They do really great care in the ICU, maybe this will give him the boost he needs.

Having had the virus, I wouldn't say it was mild in our area, but who knows, maybe we were lucky. I very nearly ended up in the hospital, but I had oxygen at home already for another problem. I'm concerned about it mutating more and that then we would be susceptible again. They haven't come out and said if you've had it once you can't get it again to my knowledge.

We don't have a clue where we got it from. I thought you said your daughter came to visit?? She tested negative right?? I wonder if people can be carriers without testing positive?? After a lot of talking about it, we've decided she probably did have it. She was sick before us and didn't tell anyone. When we got sick, we got tested after a week and tested positive. She got tested days after that, and I think the virus had probably left her system by the time she got tested. This makes the most sense to us. Even though we social distanced, she could have touched something in the house that we touched later, not realizing. That's why masks are so important, she was probably contagious but not feeling sick yet.

We had a guy on the local news claim his "medical" reason for not wearing a mask was because of balance issues and he needs to see his feet. I'm not sure how the mask blocked his view of his feet. I was skeptical because the guy had a belly bigger than me at nine months pregnancy and I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen his feet in years. I'm not defending him, but I noticed when I wear a mask, it slides up a little to my eyes and it does prevent me from seeing my feet, but you just put it back in place and go. My BIL had covid and is now on oxygen 24/7 due to COPD-like symptoms. He wears a mask OVER the canula. No reason for someone already at very high risk of getting sick to go without a mask. This is me.

I said this on another thread, but I'll say it here as well. PLEASE wear a mask. My husband and I came down with covid-19 after SIP since the beginning. We only went out for food or to the doctor, wearing masks. I am high risk, so I ONLY went to the doctor if I left home. Somewhere, someone was not careful. We don't have a clue where we got it from. It's been 3 weeks now and we are mostly recovered, and had I not already had oxygen at home, I know I would have been hospitalized. I'm still on oxygen 24/7 and we both still have lingering coughs. So even if people don't think THEY will get sick, they should wear a mask. They could be carriers with no symptoms. Do it as a kindness for others if not for yourself. I wouldn't wish this virus on anyone, so I hope people don't get sick because they are lazy about wearing a mask.

I think it depends on what you want to can. Most foods are fine with a water bath, but if you want to do meats a pressure canner is a must. Some say veggies as well. I haven't done many veggies other than tomatoes and salsa and I've always water bathed those and have never had an issue with them. Canning is a lot of work. Veggies, aside from tomatoes must be canned in a pressure canner. I enjoy canning, and have found pressure canning to be easier frankly than water bath canning, which requires a lot of preparation of fruit or tomatoes. Pressure canning is so much easier. Put raw chicken chunks in jars with no water, chicken will make it's own juice, and pressure can. You end up with the most tender chicken, and it's so convenient to have it on the shelf for salads, sandwiches or soups. All you had to do was cut up chicken breasts...aside from washing your jars. A lot of vegetables are the same. You can fill the jars with raw vegetables and cover with water. Go for it!

Yesterday was the first day that our store opened to customers since March. Customers have to wear a mask to walk in the door, but the second they are in the store, most (truly most!) pull it down past their chin. Our state "recommends" mask wearing, but it's not enforced by law. The store manager said in a store meeting that we are not to confront customers. (Obviously I wouldn't anyway, because you never know how people will react) But I'm just so sad and stressed. I've been so careful for all these months, not going into stores frivolously, not traveling, not hanging out with anyone outside my household. And now hundreds of customers can just waltz in, mask pulled down, sneezing, coughing, not maintaining social distance.... But it's Profits over People. This makes me mad too. We have SIP since the beginning, only going out for food or to the doctor, and we still got covid-19. Somewhere, someone wasn't careful and we ended up with it. We went out today after having the virus for 3 weeks, (we are recovered), stayed in our car, but noticed people everywhere are not wearing masks, or the ones that are, have it pulled down. People just aren't concerned about anyone else. They think they won't get it, but do they think about possibly being a carrier with no symptoms, and how that might affect others? It won't kill you to wear a mask if you're not sick, or think you're not sick. You do it to protect others, not just yourself. I wouldn't wish this virus on anyone. Please wear your masks!

I get motion sickness more easily as I get older. As a kid, nothing bothered me. I could read in a car, take on any roller coaster, etc. Now, I can’t read in a car at all, not even my cellphone. I get nauseous on simulated rides. Airplanes - depends on the motion (Up and down vs sideways), but I can feel nauseous on those too. Some roller coasters too. Sigh! Getting older sucks the fun out of things sometimes. Lol! This. Sometimes the smell of cooking ham will make me nauseous, but that was mostly when I was pregnant. Someone else vomiting will send me also.

Dry cherry frosting mix Yes to Carrots SPF 15 Fragrance-Free Daily Moisturizer - might not be discontinued yet, but it's getting impossible to find! Lipton Cream of Chicken Cup-a-Soup mix April Fields perfume - it was sold at Walmart and super cheap, but it was such a pretty, light floral scent! I just bought a case of Lipton cream of chicken cup a soup mix in March on Amazon, so I don't think it's discontinued. linkI still miss Nabisco Bacon crackers and their vegetable crackers that were shaped like different vegetables. I know they have the vegetable thins now, but they aren't the same. I know there are more things, but I can't think of them!

I am getting out of the house and going for a drive with my husband. We got hit with covid-19. We have been continuing quarantining for 3 weeks (length of the virus) and need some fresh air and new scenery! We were sooo sick! I already had oxygen at home because of my hypoxia, and I tell you, had I not had that, I would have ended up in the hospital. The whole thing felt so scary, just because we know so many people have died, but we only have lingering coughs left now. We have no idea how we got it. We have been SIP since the beginning, we only go out to get food or to the doctor. We thought we might have gotten it from our daughter who came to see us on Memorial Day (social distancing) because she had come straight from the airport. She tested negative though. So, we have no clue...maybe a package or grocery bags? They say that's unlikely. The doctor's office? Maybe? Anyway, we are better now, thank heavens! We are going to take a "picnic" and eat in the car when we find somewhere pretty to park. Not sure what the food will be, maybe sandwiches or chicken. jeremysgirl That is gorgeous, and so difficult! teddyw I'm sorry about your family member's cancer, prayers out for her.

Buttermilk donuts are my favorite! Any chance you'd share the recipe? Sure! Ingredients: 2 eggs 1 c sugar 1 C buttermilk 4 c flour 1/3 c melted shortening 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 tsp nutmeg (optional) Combine eggs, sugar and shortening. Add buttermilk. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg, then add to liquid mixture. Stir until blended. Roll dough on floured surface to 1/2" thickness. Cut with donut cutter. Drop in hot lard and fry until brown, flip, fry until brown. Drain on paper toweling. I like mine plain, but my kids always liked them rolled in sugar while they were still warm. Thank you so much! <3

I despise that Carrie Underwood song about basically destroying the guy's car like that's not completely illegal and f'd up. Let's all sing! That's it for the moment. I've always thought when I hear that song, "you'd never get away with that, especially since you left your name in his leather seats"

jeremysgirl I'm so glad you're OK, I bet that was very traumatic! We are grilling burgers and hotdogs, having store bought macaroni salad, apples with fruit dip, chips and lemonade. I am good at organizing and details. I'm a pretty good cook, too, although you wouldn't know it from the stuff I post in this thread haha!

SweetieBugs,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I have tears right now and know you must be feeling hit by a truck. My prayers go out to you. I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but it seems like you've thought of everything. I don't know you, but sending a cyber hug of comfort to you. I wish you the best and the strength to deal with this very difficult time.

We got the Air Fryer first (about this time last year) and I'm not really sold on it but admittedly haven't tried many things. I got the Instant Pot when the virus stuff started and I'm sold on it. I have some issues with recipes but I think it's operator error (not draining pasta recipes). I use it to make almost all dinners now (same night) and it makes people think I can cook. Ha ha. I do understand the frustration about the timing of recipes though. If it uses "natural release," that can take quite a bit of time too as can the "come to pressure" time. I love that it can use frozen meat. It made frozen salmon is cook time of 5 minutes. I was impressed. (additional time to come to pressure). I also love that many recipes can be made in that one pot. Fewer dishes. I'd love to know your recipe for the frozen salmon. I have an IP, but I've only used it once before for beef stroganoff, which came out great. There is a guy on youtube that has lots of IP recipes. His channel is called Pressure Luck. I used his recipe. I'd like to have salmon that stays moist. I hate dry salmon!

I am making chicken and gnocchi soup with the leftover rotisserie chicken, the bag of gnocchi that got forgotten in the back of the fridge and the usual partners in crime. I'll have to dig in the freezer for the spinach. I would love to have some fresh breadsticks with this, but I am not feeling that ambitious. Hope you're all doing well!!!

I'm not a fan. A teen in our neighborhood was jumping at night, did a flip, but because it was dark, he couldn't see the trampoline and came down on his head. He is now paralyzed from the neck down, permanently.

Why can't my dh pick up his feet when he walks? When he wears slippers he shuffles through the kitchen making a ton of noise. I have fantasies of strangling him with those slippers He also reads out loud when looking at his computer, sort of under his breath. Again, more thoughts of strangulation. I have been stuck at home nearly 6 months and my patience is wearing thin. Other than that, he's great, so I refrain. I am just plain tired of being home. Thankfully I am kind of a home body. The only times I have been out are to the doctor.
