We've been 10 times since 2006. We've rented cars 7/10 times (drove the other 3 times). Never any issues. Check to see if you have insurance coverage through your regular insurance or CC. They always try to upsell you "their insurance," we've never bought it. Never had any issues. Todos Santos is lots of fun to go up and visit. But if you are at an all-inclusive then you don't really "need" one. You can always take a taxi downtown or to San Jose del Cabo.

how did you know that it was time to seek help?
DD is 13 and has been expressing a lot of fears/anxiety recently. Much of what she talks about are things that the typical 13 year old would start thinking about...social issues, how others see her, embarrassing herself etc. Thing is, she seems to be very intense about this stuff. Also, DD has a history of PANDAS and is a bit of a perfectionist by nature.
Thanks for any insight, or thoughts you can share. I have to go right now but will be back later.
Update: We have been to DD's primary and to 2 visits at the counseling center - one for intake and one with the counselor that she will be seeing. With all of the questions at the intake, it came out that DD has been having mild panic attacks at school and she also scored high for generalized anxiety. At this point, she will be seeing the counselor every other week and we will take it from there. The counselor she is seeing specializes in anxiety so I think we are in good hands.
I wanted to reach out because we are starting down a path with our 11 year-old that is experiencing some pretty severe anxiety and school refusal. PANDAS has come up as a possibility. I was just wondering if you have any advice or resources you could point me toward. Thank you!

Thank you for update #3. Please, pretty please post or even write me about the treatment. My daughter is 13yo and still battling this. She developed it in 1st grade after a strep infection. We have periods were she is in remission and then she gets sick and things flare. We have been to doctors all over the states looking for help and we now have a doctor near us that helps, but I would love to hear what they are thinking and doing up at Stanford. Stanford seems to be at the leading edge of treatment. For us they are doing prophylaxis amoxicillin of 250 mg/day. That is after doing 2 times that amount for several weeks to deal with any infection that may have been present. We will be doing this for at least 2 more years and possibly many more after that. Lexi handles it fine and has no stomach issues, which is fantastic! She also takes ibuprofen 3 times a day to control the inflammation in her brain. These 2 meds have helped tremendously. She went from being so exhausted that she couldn't handle school anymore to being back full time and running around the park for an hour or two every night. We are lucky that this was her first flare. We haven't had a discussion about IVIG or anything else because she is responding so well right now. We cross our fingers every day that she doesn't get sick again and the antibiotics continue to do their job to prevent it. Please find the "PANDAS-Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Strep" Group on Facebook. They can help you locate doctors in your area and have the most amazing advice. They know everything from specific labs to get bloodwork done to who to see and who to avoid. I just wanted to check in with you. We are just starting down the path of trying to figure out what is going on with our 11 year old son and PANS/PANDA is something that we are looking into. We have a referral to the clinic at Stanford and are pursing therapy and researching anything and everything to try to help our son. We have a friend whose child was treated by the Stanford clinic and she says they saved her family. Just looking for any advice or support you might be able to give. Thank you!!

We're having some major mental health struggles with our 11 year old ds and this is something that has been mentioned as a possibility. We are currently playing phone tag with the local clinic to try to get him in to be seen/evaluated. I'm just wondering if there are any peas with experience.
Thanks!

You could easily make double that nannying in SB/Monecieto. Also reach out to the ED department at UCSB and City College. See if they have any education programs that you could teach in.

This is totally me as well. Down to the drawing ability. I sew and I have a very hard time looking at fabrics and knowing what the end result is going to look like. I look for ideas of how to pair fabrics online, because I just can't see it.
My dh has it to a degree too, but the two differences are that he can't draw and that he can create a mental map of things. Great sense of direction, me on the other hand I need maps to get pretty much everywhere.

Hugs!
I have to say that my sympathy goes out to all Kinder teachers this year. I taught kinder before I had my own kids and now my youngest is in Kinder. I taught at her preschool last year and was in her classroom (Junior Kindergarten/Pre-K) 3 days a week. Oh my goodness, 50%+ of those kids were out of control! I think that there is definitely something to to be said about these Covid kids. My youngest turned 2 the first week of lock down, she has 3 older siblings, she's precocious, but overall a good kid (but not a saint by any stretch). I have never seen kids so out of control as the kids in her class last year. The hitting, kicking, biting, scratching, defiance, and total lack of responsibility/accountability whatever on the part of many of the parents was astounding. I would come in from helping in other classrooms and she would walk up to me and roll her eyes and say "Mommy they are just too loud and don't listen." We had a handful that there was a literal sigh of relief on the days we realized that they weren't going to be coming, because their energy changed the entire dynamic of the classroom. We had the parents of one of the most difficult kids essentially tell us they had given up trying and they were hoping that the Kinder teacher would "fix" him next year.
But to give you hope I have been subbing almost daily in our two preschool classes this year and the kids are wonderful. So fingers crossed this year is an anomaly and that it gets better!!!

We have 2 EVs and have had them since 2016. I have never had an issue with charging. We drove from CO to CA this summer and it was great. We had 4 kids and 2 dogs with us. We had to stop every 2-3 hours to charge. It was just enough time for everyone (humans and dogs) to go to the bathroom, grab a snack or drink if needed, and stretch our legs. I never had any issues with having to wait for a charging spot, we have unlimited supercharging on ours so it was free to charge. We never had trouble finding a hotel/bathroom/food near a charger. We have a Suburban as a "backup" vehicle (drove it to Mexico). But 99.9% of the time we drive the EVs. I have never "run out" of charge. We love our cars and I don't plan to ever buy another gas vehicle again.

I have my yearbooks. I never had a desire for the jacket. I came across one of my letters last night unpacking some stuff. I lettered in 2 sports every year for all 4 years. I really, really wanted a class ring but my parents said no and I didn't have the funds to buy it for myself.

A number...
One of my best friend's dds, she knew when she was 3.
2 years ago the parents of one of the preschoolers I taught came to us after Christmas break and let us know that their son would now be going by their full name, rather than the female nickname they had been going under. The transformation of the child was incredible, when they were at school as their gender assigned at birth they were withdrawn, once they were recognized as male they were so much happier, engaged, and just glowing.
The rabbi that married dh and I and both of his sisters was in the process of transitioning when he married us but didn't really tell us. Or I guess he did, but did it in a way that we didn't realize that was what he was saying. We saw him a couple of years later and he looked and sounded just like Robin Williams! We were so happy for him. This was one that always left me scratching my head slightly. He transitioned before gay marriage was legal in CA. Since he had transitioned he was able to marry his long-time partner because he was recognized as male, instead of female. We were thrilled they could get married but I always thought it was strange that the gender change was recognized and he could marry before gay marriage was legal.
My dd has a friend in her class that came out as non-binary in 4th grade. I have known them since kindergarten and wasn't surprised at all.

I didn't have a chance to read all the replies, but we were just in Europe for 3 weeks and stayed in 4 different airbnb's. I learned that a lot of the European dryers have a "water" tank that needs to be emptied after each load is run. It fills up with the water, I assume from the clothes, and then needs to be emptied. Also they are way smaller and take way longer than US machines. I missed my electroluxe so much!

I absolutely wouldn't go. I have been lucky that my own mom hasn't been possessive over mother's day and has always deferred to our plans. My mil on the other hand is the opposite. It is always all about her. I was reading a post the other day about how mother's day should be about the actual mothers with kids around. The "retired" mothers should allow those moms to have their day and allow for celebrations of themselves on another day. I always make sure to celebrate my mom and do something special with her, but on actual mother's day it is nice when I get to have a day with my family instead of running around and planning something for everyone else - since that is what most of my daily life is.

We drove down to Cabo in December and back in Jan. We drove down via the mainland (nogales, az) and then took the ferry over to Baja. We didn't have any safety concerns. We did have a delay on the way back because the ferry was canceled for the day we were supposed to go because El Chapo's son had been arrested and there were issues in the Mexican state where the ferry was supposed to land. But it all worked out the following day and we didn't have any issues.
I haven't been to Cancun, but we have been going to Cabo since 2006 and have now driven down 3 times (the rest of the years we have flown) and we have never felt unsafe.

My grandma died October 2020. My grandfather had died in 2015 and we had a memorial then, but my mom had held on to his ashes to wait to inter them together. With Covid, people living across the country, etc, we held the service this past June. She was in her 90s and didn't have many "people" left. So it was more a celebration of life/remembrance with my parent's generation and friends.

We were really worried over Thanksgiving. We had an hour between a flight from Detroit to Paris and then the flight to Abu Dhabi. We had time to use the rest room and that was it. We were the last people they let on the plane. But we made it.

This one is vegan and incredible! 2-3 small very ripe banannas 1/4 cup applecause 1/4 cup canola oil 1/2 cup sugar 2 TBS molasses 2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 tsp baking soda 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg 1/2 tsp salt pre-heat oven to 350 In a mixing bowl mash the bannanas really well. Add the sugar, applesauce, oil, and molasses, and wisk to incorporate. Sift the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt. Use a wooden spoon to mix until the wet and dry ingredients are just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Transfer to the prepared pan (9x5). Bake for 45-50 minutes. The top should be lightly browned and a knife inserted through the center should come out clean. Remove from teh oven and invert onto a cooling rack, flip teh bread right side up and let cool. Sally's Baking addiction Banana Bread made with coconut oil is delicious too!

We have a bunch of gravity blankets. We have a queen plus singles on our bed. Our oldest has one of the kid ones. Our boys share a bed and have a queen on that bed. I adore them. We got out first from them when they were on Kickstarter. We have the original covers, cooling covers, and two-sided cover. They are a little pricey, but so worth it. I even took my daughter's with us to Hawaii and Abu Dhabi since I often find hotels lacking in the blanket weight department.

my 3rd was like this. But he came home at normal weight, just gained really slowly. To the point that at 6 months they were wanting me to give him literal balls of butter to help him gain weight. Then it was olive oil mixed with organic beef pureed. He is 6 now and "normal" on the height chart, but is still really slim. He eats what he wants (fairly balanced), but just tends to not eat a ton. I am a little jealous that he does such a good job of moderating himself! He is super strong, just very slim.
I was definitely stressed we switched doctors because the first one made me feel like crap! But it all has worked out!

We sent back margaritas recently. It was a new to us restaurant. We take our margaritas seriously and love that we can order skinny margaritas - they are supposed to be tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave. What we got was definitely not that. It almost tasted like there was some sort of almond flavor in it. They came back out and tasted exactly the same. We could not drink them. The food was subpar as well. We paid and tipped, but will never go back.

Because this is how my luck is going these days.
At 1:45 this afternoon Amazon delivered a package with 3 pairs of capris for me and 4 pairs of shorts for my husband. And charging adaptors for the trip we are leaving for on Sunday.
At 2:40 UPS showed up to pick up a package for return. They did not ring the doorbell (I wasn't home). They took my package with my things that were just delivered and put the return label on my box and took it. I tried calling UPS and got someone who was very polite and horrified at the situation. Now I get to wait for someone to call me back to figure out if I have to try and reorder everything tonight and hope it comes before we leave.

Are you kidding? They replaced things to your property --- without buying the home -- and now want to back out? Holy crap. Yes. They replaced the kitchen fridge (it was only 4 years old and worked great), put the kitchen fridge in the garage and got rid of the fridge we had in the kitchen. They "replaced" the washer and dryer (also only 3 years old), I am sure the new ones are fancy and whatnot, but I loved the set and they didn't even completely install the new one. We had a contract and they were supposed to lease it till escrow closed. We don't think they ever actually moved in, just did the appliances and then got cold feet. They alerted us 36 hours before rent was due that they had moved out and were cancelling the contract. So now I am dealing with finding and retaining a lawyer. It's ridiculous. They are trying to claim we are in breach of contract for failing to disclose airplane noise and lack of sunlight. Thankfully the airplane noise was in the disclosures - but is crazy because I am super sensitive to noise and it was never an issue for me. And the whole reason they wanted the house was because it is in the middle of a forest.

Hugs!! Is there enough flexibility that he can just walk away for the day or part of the day?
My vent(s). The crappy people that we were in contract with to buy our house backed out and are trying to get out of having to pay what we are legally owed. And we can't put the house back on the market till it is resolved. They owe us $$,$$$ and it was money we were counting on to pay for things. And they replaced the kitchen fridge and the washer and dryer without telling us -- which made me really mad because I loved the washer and dryer and had purchased new ones for this house 3 days before because the ones here broke.
My dh is out of town this week. We leave to go overseas for 2 weeks on Sunday and he gets home at 1am Saturday morning. So I am getting to figure out everything and pack for myself + 4 kids.
It snowed this morning. I am not adjusting to living somewhere with snow for the first time in my life. Dh drove the car that handles better in the snow to the airport because the snow wasn't in the forecast. Thankfully I got the kids to school safely, but it was stressful. Now they are forecasting multiple inches for Thursday too.

To quote Heather Cox Richardson tonight:
"Those results are strong. According to Axios senior political correspondent Josh Kraushaar, only in 1934, under Democratic president Franklin D. Roosevelt; 1962, under Democratic president John F. Kennedy; and 2002, under Republican president George W. Bush and just after the 9/11 attacks, has a president’s party not lost a Senate seat in the midterms and lost fewer than 10 House seats. Since World War II, midterms have cost the party in power an average of 28 seats."
