It might be a"choice" but a choice with strings attached When there is an obvious benefit this is plain and clear coercion
This is fucked up on multiple levels

Try some different things! You don't have to run or do p90x to get exercise in! I'm really into spinning and find it is one of my preferred forms of exercise. I also love lifting, seeing my body be able to do more than I did last week, or do a lift with better form is so rewarding! I also loved pilates, but only when I was doing private sessions...the studios don't always do it for me. But I incorporate what I learned there into my lifting/gym routine I'd look into getting a class pass if they are around you! Then you can try out different activities at different studios and get an idea of what you like

Welcome Courtney : ) Waving from Los Angeles by way of the East Coast (Manhattan). I came here by way of being a scrapbook poser (i.e. not particularly talented or committed). NSBR used to be a much more cut-throat place but it has mellowed through the years. I've learned a lot here about silly things like merkins (look it up at your own peril) and more serious things like overly zealous HOAs. I have a partner (aka husband), two daughters, a cat and a dog (both male). My neighborhood feels like suburbia to me, but my neighbor from Taos, NM was thrilled to be living in the city...so go figure. I try to like more than I post and ask questions Google can't answer. I am addicted to the "Everything but the Bagel" sprinkle from Trader Joe's and have been considering posting a thread about it. Do you live near the beaches? I wish I lived near the beaches! I chose my place because it's a mile from my office and I heard LA traffic is awful lol I want to move closer to the beaches and probably will in the next year. I'm realizing I'm only in the office like 2 days a week anyways!

I see you live in a very different area. I can't imagine you're area, bc I live in LA. We just love rather than hate here tbh I have to admit I giggled at this post. I say this with affection: you are a young 'un. It's true Angelenos have a reputation for being mellow, but you have to realize that if someone stuck a beat-up RV in a Brentwood or BH driveway, the neighbors would hemorrhage. I could even see it coming to lawsuits if this were an ongoing issue, because everyone there has someone on retainer. Same with Pacific Palisades, CC, and WeHo. Heck, when I lived in Burbank, my HOA was insane. In our condo community we weren't allowed to have doormats in front of our doors because someone decided they were unsightly. You know those news reports they show when the Taiwanese parliament loses control and members flood the podium and start beating each other up? That could have been our annual homeowners meeting. We could have used some of that peace and love! Oh don't get me wrong, my HOA would never allow an RV anywhere... but I'm going back to my east coast roots with this one lol

Welcome, Courtney!! QUESTION: Was it a big adjustment moving from up northeast, to southwest??? I'm a New Yorker and DH and I moved down to FL 6 years ago. I swear, I never adjusted to it here. The temps landed me in the E.R. a few times, and there's just too much of a difference between both places. We're trying to move back up north (despite the massive snowstorms, etc...). QUESTION #2 (if I'm permitted to ask more than 1 question): Do you still have your family up in CT??? Do you miss them? Do you go see them?? Will they come to CA to see you (I'd imagine so, since it's so beautiful). Good luck in CA, and welcome to the 2Peas Refugees! I love LA in comparison to the Northeast. I don't think I'll ever move back! I still have family in CT. My parents and sister live there... but my parents will likely retire and move in the next 5 years. I went and visited them over Xmas and will see them again in August and likely Xmas again. They came to CA to visit in March and it was a lot of fun! My brother lives out here too, so it's nice they can come and visit both of us.

Very important questions. Do you own any kitten heels? Do you feel strongly about them? Do you return your carts to the corral? Do you use crock pot liners? Are you a fan of cocoa nut oil? Have you ever eaten a cupcake off the sidewalk? Have you ever pooped in a pool? Do you have guest towels? Are guests allowed to use them? Shoes... inside or not? How you answer these questions, will determine your acceptance into the group. Dislike kitten heels! Yes I always put them in the corral in the parking lot I never use a crockpot Yes Coconut oil rocks for so many things! No off the sidewalk food Never pooped in a pool, but have peed tbh Duh to guest towels! Use them, not mine! I usually wear my shoes inside until I get to my bedroom then take them off

Plus do you wash your butt and bits with a washcloth, or do you just let water and soap suds run over it and call it good? Or do you blast the area with a shower head? This is an important Pea dividing line. Plus - Do you pee in the shower? How often do you change your towels? Can you write Haiku? Please answer all these questions in a Powerpoint presentation. Save Oh gosh, um I have a loofa that I use for sudsing up that I use every time I show and replace monthly I don't pee in the shower! I have a toilet right next to the show I use before I wash my towels weekly, I have 4, usually use one for my body once or twice before washing... I have hair towels that I use also I learned Haiku in HS but have no idea anymore lol

Who cares if a woman wears sleeves? Showing maybe 2 more inches of each arm than with a capped sleeve So what if men have to wear a suit jacket? Women are expected to have their hair and makeup perfectly done, wear a bra, pantyhose and heels. And are taken less seriously than men by 37% in wages. It makes me sick to think of how women are expected to spend all this money on different dresses ( because someone will surely notice if they wear the same one frequently) when men can get away will wearing the same couple of suits with a few different dress shirts over and over. They are also expected to, and spend a lot of money, to maintain a certain level of beauty to impress men, when men can get away with combing their hair and brushing their teeth in the morning. Which puts the wage in-equality even deeper for women. I was discussing this with a male coworker the other day. He asked how much I spend on beauty a month: ~$100/month manicures/pedicures ~ $100/ month hair ( usually spend ~300 every three months between one cut/highlight and a few blowdrys) ~$200/ month waxing and eyelashes $400/month...$4,800 a year spend on "women only" maintenance activities. Thats not even counting the money I spend on makeup or hair product, the botox I'll need soon, or my occasional spray tan. Or the frequent upgrade of wardrobe. But it is expected of women in my industry. 200/mo for waxing and eyelashes? I call bullshit. I don't know what your industry is but none of this is expected of women in mine. I am senior administration in a large school system and of the thousands of women working in my organization I don't know any that are expected to Botox for their jobs. These are vanity choices. That's fine if that's what you do, but the expectation is artificial. In my industry you fit into 4 roles: -young woman who is charming -older woman who fits into a motherly role -young man go getter -older male (75% of the industry) who hold all the power I've had brokers legit tell me if I wasn't "so pretty" they wouldn't have talked to me

I get keeping a pop up telling me I have no threads and don't know how to get rid of it unless I post a thread I guess So why not a get to know you? I'm a 26 year old woman living in Los Angeles, from Connecticut and went to school in Boston I found your forum because I go on a mostly young womans forum. We've been together for ~15 and most of us are in our 20s and 30s, with the occasional male and older member. One of the male members found your site by accident, we are also on pro forums, and told us that y'all were us in the future. I've been kinda following y'all and figured I should post too. Please feel free to ask me anything. I'm an open book. I've only posted a couple of times but can tell I have some contrary opinions lol Welcome, I look forward to debating with you. Fair warning, my response to you is going to be tempered by the RV thread. First, a bit about me. I choose to stay pretty vague on the internet, but I'm mid-30's, married with no kids, from a state that apparently only hates (according to you on the RV thread), which is probably closer to accurate than not, but extremely off-putting when coming from a 26 year old who has spent zero time living in the flyover states. Second, a few things about this board you should know. The NSBR comes from a defunct scrapbooking company's message board. Many of the Peas have been together for about 10-15 years. Our unofficial motto is, "NSBR ain't for sissies". Our debates can get pretty heated and if you don't have a thick skin, you will probably get your feelings hurt. We have had a fair amount of trolls and alter egos here, so being new and obviously opinionated, your motives and identity will probably get questioned at first by a few people. Don't take it personally...that will stop as you make yourself known around the board. Finally, although you rubbed me kind of wrong on the RV thread, I'm genuinely happy to see new blood on the forum who isn't afraid to jump in. I'm glad you're here. Don't worry, I don't scare easily...my original forum has scared off members for 15 years and I survived. But now it is a group of people who are very much the same, so there is very little controversy. I've met irl over 10 ppl from that forum, including some irl friendships, and have gained so much from being with them. I don't know what the future holds for me here, but I hope I can gain some perspective or friendships

You seem to have quite a few more international members (to me), the forum I'm from is mostly US and Canada with a few ladies from the UK, Germany, Australia, Spain...but not many I'm excited to be here and get some different perspectives on things! I'm not one to keep my opinions to myself, but it is always good to get others points of view

"Shame on you", really?! courtney ? I don't see how you can say you love rather than hate if you go around handslapping like that. OP, I get it , we have on street parking here and people are often annoyed by caravans, large vans etc. The problem is that if it is on their land I really don't see how you can ask them to move it. Where else could they park it? Saying you want them to move it because it's ugly is just never going to go well. Is it going to be visible all through the event or just as people walk in? I'm assuming you haven't invited them to the wedding. Have you told them it's happening? In my mind that's a courteous thing to do, and then it's your opportunity to find out if they are even going to be around that weekend. If they are off RV-ing, you're sorted. If they aren't, you're u can start thinking of ways to mitigate the eyesore from your side...I like the idea of putting up a trellis or a screen that could be decorated, or even making a walkway with fabric drapes. It depends on the space. Good luck! I believe benefit of the doubtful. especially in these cases when there is no animosity . If someone is shaming... that is not good news

I can't believe many, nay most, of the responses here. What has happened to being neighborly? Being the good neighbor? I wouldn't park an RV on my property to begin with, and I most certainly would happily accommodate a neighbor for their child's wedding day. Literally, shaking my head. I don't consider holding a large party, like a wedding reception, in a back yard with all of its attending noise as being neighborly. I consider that being a spoiled entitled person. In the spirit of being neighborly I won't complain about it. But, when you start making "requests" about changing my schedule and my parking on MY property...... you'll get a ton of passive aggressiveness. I don't see what the OP wants to do as being neighborly from her side. She wants to create a parking/noise issue in the neighborhood AND tell me what to do at my home so she can pretend to be some sort of princess on an estate. I see you live in a very different area. I can't imagine you're area, bc I live in LA. We just love rather than hate here tbh

You are the one sounding entitled. They are doing something on their land. Which they do hardly ever. You can be a decent person and allow it for one night for their daughters only wedding. Shame on your. Seriously. If you are concerned with yourself in this situation, the fault lies with you. I'm sure they would repay you for what ever "inconvenience" you "know"

Flying. It's so irrational. I've travelled by plane every year since I was 3 months old and at least done 10 round trips per year for the past 10 years. But without fail. I have 4 good flight experiences and then the 5th is horrible and we have unknown turbulence and I panic. My last flight we had BAD turbulence where we spent half of the 5 hour flight from the east coast to the west coast strapped into our seats, unable to leave because we would hit the ceilings and the drinks that were on trays flew all over.
I'm flying to LA to NYC next week and I'm terrified, even though normally it's fine, I want to have a couple of cocktails prior to calm my nerves.
