I don’t, but I really love the look of a bezel setting. I just ordered a ring with three different colored topaz gems bezel set.

Try Stuff You Should Know: Josh and Chuck talk about random topics that last 15 minutes to an hour, and there are hundreds to choose from. The topics might be Satanism, LSD, giraffes, food tasting , champagne etc etc. They are very easy listening, may be funny or serious, and offer lots of info about things I have never wondered about a longer podcast is Beautiful anonymous, which involves the host (comedic personality with ability to be very serious) taking a phone call that lasts one hour, with the caller choosing what to talk about, generally about their own life. There are a lot of interesting people in this world! Some make you laugh out loud, some pull out the tears. The host, Chris Gethard, has managed to create A community of followers who seem to follow every weekly show. It has been on for several years, so there are many shows to choose from. I have whiled away many hours on cars rides listening to Stuff You Should Know. I’d never heard of fainting goats or ayahuasca before that podcast. Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell is another good one. They’re 30-40 minutes and examines something that happened, and whether it’s remembered correctly. The one on creativity focusing on Leonard Cohen and Elvis Costello was really good. Same with the one about when McDonald’s changed their French fry formula.

So many things to see and do. The Parthenon is a great thing to stop and see. Makes for some fun photo ops. And it's free unless you want to go through rhe museum. Two years ago I was in Nashville for a wedding, and they had a trolley tour for the extended family from out of town. That included all the bride’s cousins from Greece. We had to stop and get out for a picture there — they thought it was the best thing about Nashville. Never laughed so hard in my life. There are some lovely gardens in the park there.

I’m not a country music fan, and thought the Grand Ol’ Opry was amazing. They put on a great show — lots of different acts. I’ve been twice, and it was a highlight of both trips.
ETA: keeps corrrecting Opry to Oprah. Lol
Restaurants we liked:
Bakersfield for Mexican food Monell’s for breakfast There was a good gin bar with small plates, but I can’t remember the name. My daughter liked the Twelve Thirty Club

I did not but my kids did. My son went on and plays clarinet professionally. In high school he played a fancy recorder in a baroque chamber group. He loved it.

I don’t. For me, even talking on the phone while I’m driving is really distracting. The only thing I do is listen to the radio.
I found that when I was talking on the phone while I drove, I’d inevitably drive past my destination or go the wrong way. Guess I’m super easily distracted.

Well, you know how she is — why didn’t you warn her that you weren’t available until 2? Going forward, you can choose to know she’ll always show up early and plan for that, or don’t plan get together with her anymore. You’re not going to change her, experience has shown that.
And my kids rode their bikes everywhere in town… we live in a safe area and my kids loved riding their bikes. You make it sound like the 2020s have changed all social activities. Just not true. Kids still ride bikes to visit their friends all over the world. I don’t get why you think that’s changed just because you and your kids don’t do that. It’s weird to think that everyone is exactly like you.

DD was 17 when she went to college, and there was a burger place that all her friends went to that was 18+ because they allowed smoking. She couldn’t wait to turn 18 and get a burger there.

In the basement. I have a set of shelves that hold the bins, and the artificial tree fits under the stairs down there. Our basement is dry, so it all stays fine.

I don't eat it but I loved it as a name in a baby names book. I was seriously going to name my third son Kale. But as I began to tell people, I got shocked looks and "you mean like the lettuce?" remarks. I had no idea it was a lettuce. Needless to say, I changed my mind and we went with Kyle instead. LOL This is so funny! Did you call him Kale as a nickname?

It tastes like dirt to me. If you chop it up really finely and hide it in an otherwise tasty soup, I’ll eat it.
We belonged to a CSA for years and I tried it dozens of ways - it was constantly in my boxes. I finally started leaving it behind for others to enjoy.

What in the world is a grill doing in an enclosed area??? I realize there are a lot of windows but that just doesn’t seem prudent. It looks like there’s a vent hood but I’m still kind of shocked that’s not against code. I totally got stuck on the indoor grill, too. The house is ginormous, but all the fixtures are very middle of the road. I’d have landscaped the heck out of that pool area and had a pool house and some shade out there. But that’s where you’d find me all summer.

We’re not in the path of totality, but our plan is to take DH’s plane to a small airport in Vermont where he has some buddies and join them to watch the eclipse. That is, if the weather cooperates. It’s his birthday, and he’s super excited about it.

I know it — I don’t remember the movie, but it was required reading in middle school or high school (back in the dark ages). It’s not being taught as often these days.

We’re planning on flying to a small airport in Vermont to view it. DH is buddies with the guys at the airport who painted his plane last year. It’s DH’s birthday and that’s all he wants. We are also science nerds.

I got one of the spinning boards for DH for Christmas a few years ago. We love it, but it’s big and doesn’t move easily.
For sorting, I bought a bunch of shallow plastic jeweler’s trays that stack. They were super cheap, like $1.50 each.
I’m working on a puzzle that’s from the Dr. Who Van Gogh episode. It’s very cute.

My daughter got married in October. They had a Photo Booth, and asked their guests to paste one of the pictures into their guest book and sign it. It made for a really special memento for the bride and groom. At the end of the wedding, they brought out a hot pretzel cart (DD’s dog is named Pretzel).

Mine wanted 1/2 the spices - didn't specify which ones, so I gave him all the old spices. (Why would you want to use spices that were open and with your ex for the last 6 months) Sounds like a good way to clean out the spice cabinet. I’m sure I could find a lot of stuff I bought and didn’t like, the outdated stuff, none of the Penzeys obviously, the Morton’s salt… Don’t they know how stupid they look with such pettiness? Especially when they’re the ones who brought on the whole thing. It’s nice that he keeps reminding you why you’re so much better off now.

We made semolina spaghetti on Sunday using the recipe on the Bob’s Red Mill Semolina flour package. It had the flour, eggs, salt, water, and oil. Was absolutely delicious.
Fresh lasagna noodles makes lasagna so so much better.

I live in a small town/suburb and we have tons of coyote. I can hear them howling at night. They occasionally pass through the yard — they’re not scared of people. We also have foxes and I just adore when they bring their kits around, they’re so cute and funny. I’ll take the foxes any day. My dog used to chase everything out of the yard (she was 75 pounds and could hold her own.) But now I don’t have any outdoor pets.

I love opossums — we have them in the yard, and I just love watching them carry their babies on their backs. Plus they eat their weight in ticks. I wish my cat would do that.
Who was the member who had a possum in her avatar?

We have stayed at the Royal Hideaway, adult only, all inclusive on the smaller size. We didn’t snorkel but equipment was available on the beach. Food was awesome with lots of dining choices for such a small place. 1 large pool and several smaller, more secluded pools. Quiet, definitely not a party zone. Walkable into Playa Del Carmen through some smaller ruins). Enjoyed trips to Telus, (beautiful location plus interesting architectural/design planning stories), Coba (you could still climb it then, not sure if you still can) and swam in a couple of cenotes. Cozumel is just a boat ride away. Wherever you go, have a great time! We’ve been to the Royal Hideaway a couple times. It’s really lovely.

1/18 I got very little done yesterday. Still fighting this cold after three weeks — took a 2 hour nap and went to bed early. So today:
1. Get kids’ beds made up 2. Cat box, per usual 3. Get the chicken marinating before lunch 4. Laundry put away 5. Shovel front walk

Sounds so dangerous — glad you called. We do have burning permits in my town — you have to get the permit and call the FD the day you’re burning. Lots of safety rules involved and they won’t allow burning when it’s at all windy. We used to get rid of yard waste that way, but haven’t had a burn pile in years now.
