VERY interesting Fresh Air episode this morning on NPR Sirius radio, I think worth a listen-- just over 35 minutes. NPR.org/2020/01/08/etc. Terry Gross interviewed Andrea Bernstein, co-host of the Podcast Trump, Inc., and author of the new book 'American Oligarchs-- The Kushners, the Trumps, and the Marriage of Money and Power' about the history of the Trump and Kushner families... starting with Trump's grandfather Friedrich and Kushner's grandparents fleeing the Holocaust. She discussed how Friedrich, Fred, and now Donald, conduct(ed) their business, the combination of using political influence & donations to get power, how they got into the real estate business, conducted their business, etc. What was especially interesting (and concerning!) to me is the discussion they had about the culture of LYING-- saying whatever you need to get what you want in business-- apparently this is ingrained in both families through the generations... she said the 'lying' thing is also a power issue: if someone can get away with very blatant untruths and lies, that gives them a feeling of POWER over the other person/people. So Trump lying and getting away with it time and time again, to him, is something that shows how powerful he is. Also included a discussion of where Rudy Guiliani came into the picture, and how/why Ukraine came into the picture. Also how Donald Trump the businessman has always been extremely impulsive, does things on a whim with no thought for the future, etc., and President* Donald Trump is now running the country the EXACT SAME way (to the detriment of all of us). Since Bernstein is so knowledgeable about Donald Trump, Terry Gross also asked her to comment on the assassination and the current Iranian crisis, and Trump's possible thought process. It was a REALLY interesting interview.

someone who commented on this apparently counted the number of times DT sniffed during that address. (he really took one for the team, there- I couldn't bring myself to listen at all!) According to this guy, DT sniffed FIFTY-EIGHT times during that address. He was clearly on something, probably his Adderall. Funny/tragic: Yesterday Dean Obeidallah (I think) said DT reading that address sounded very much like a hostage reading a prepared statement. You could tell the words were NOT "his" words or his viewpoint, at all. They had him very reined in for this statement (via the Adderall, probably) to keep him focused and stop him from going off the rails.

“Definition of checks and balances : a system that allows each branch of a government to amend or veto acts of another branch so as to prevent any one branch from exerting too much power”
NBC News.
“VP Pence says Trump admin. could not share with Congress some of the "most compelling" intelligence behind the decision to kill Gen. Soleimani because doing so "could compromise sources and methods."
Even I know that’s a bunch of crap.

”NEW >>> Iranian missile system shot down Ukraine Flight 752, likely by mistake, two Pentagon officials and an Iraqi intelligence official told @newsweek.
The aircraft is believed to have been struck by a Russia-built Tor M-1 surface-to-air missile system.”
I wondered when something like this would pop up. It was my understanding the plane left after the missiles had been launched.
It will be interesting to see where this goes.

”Total TV ad spend by 2020 candidates, through this week:
Bloomberg: $153.1 million Steyer: $116.5 million Sanders: $11.7 million Buttigieg: $11.4 million Yang: $7.3 million Warren: $3.7 million Biden: $3 million Klobuchar: $2.9 million Bennet: $1.1 million Gabbard: $1.1 million”
And this is exactly what Sanders or Warren will face against trump if they insist on sticking to their “purity test”.
Want big money out of politics. Fine get elected first and that means neutralizing any advantages the other side may have. Otherwise you accomplish nothing.

linkIt never ceases to amaze me how secretive and corrupt the Federal Government has become since trump took office. CNBC... “Mnuchin seeks to delay proposed Secret Service report on Trump family travel costs until after the 2020 election”From the article.. ”Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is pushing to delay a proposed disclosure of Secret Service spending on presidential travel until after the 2020 election, a spokesperson for Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Thursday. The Trump administration's maneuvering to put off providing cost figures related to the agency's protection of President Donald Trump was first reported by The Washington Post. The Government Accountability Office published a report in January 2019 finding that federal agencies incurred costs of $13.6 million in a period of just over a month in 2017 when Trump took four trips to his Florida club Mar-a-Lago.”

I have to say that I have not known anyone taking adderall to have problems with sniffling, unless they also have problems with tics. I think his breathing and sniffling during speeches is highly annoying, but it could be due to anxiety, tics or just trying to be poised which is not natural to him.

This from trump..
“STOCK MARKET AT ALL-TIME HIGH! HOW ARE YOUR 401K’S DOING? 70%, 80%, 90% up? Only 50% up! What are you doing wrong?”
Prompted this from Joe Kennedy III...
“The richest 10% of Americans who own over 80% of stocks are thriving.
Meanwhile, Americans making minimum wage can’t afford the rent for a two-bedroom apartment virtually anywhere in the United States.
The stock market isn’t indicative of lived experience.”
1. Note: someone fixed trump’s tweet.
2. Kennedy is right and the presidential candidates should be saying this on a daily basis.

”It was obvious that Trump wasn’t responsible for the continuation of a 26-year trend. Still, it’s relatively rare that big entities are willing to contradict Trump even on obvious stuff, and I’m grateful when they do comment, as the CEO of the ACS did.”
I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought trump was somehow trying to take credit for the drop in cancer related deaths. It seems the CEO of the American Cancer Society thinks so to.
From CNN..
”Gary M. Reedy, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, told CNN that the 2017 findings are not connected to the actions of the Trump administration.
"The mortality trends reflected in our current report, including the largest drop in overall cancer mortality ever recorded from 2016 to 2017, reflect prevention, early detection, and treatment advances that occurred in prior years," Reedy said in a written statement on Thursday.
"Since taking office, the president has signed multiple spending bills that have included increases in funding for cancer research at the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute -- though the impact of those increases are not reflected in the data contained in this report," he said.
"The administration has an opportunity to significantly impact future declines in both cancer incidence and mortality by increasing access to comprehensive health care, supporting robust and sustained increases in federal funding for cancer research and passing and implementing evidence-based tobacco control policies."
The President has a history of proposing to cut funding from the National Institutes of Health's budget, which includes funding for the National Cancer Institute, an agency that leads, conducts and supports cancer research. The final budgets that Congress approved ended up being more generous than Trump's proposals.”
