Honestly I was so shocked at their movie that ‘premiered’ last night. Not at the movie in general but that it was a hallmark movie on a hallmark channel. It’s great that everyone was fine with the guy being Jewish but they diminished Christmas down to all the activities that come with Christmas but are not associated with the purpose of Christmas. They had a more purposeful Hanukkah celebration than Christmas. Fine by me considering my family, but I was SHOCKED that hallmark would accept the trappings of Christmas rather than the meaning of Christmas. Christmas was food, a tree, gifts, decorations, cookies, while Hanukkah had meaning in the miracle of the oil. In their attempt to be more inclusive they sort of dissed actual Christmas. I was floored. Am I making sense explaining myself? There are plenty of people who celebrate Christmas, and other religious holidays, in a secular way. For many people, Christmas is about food, gifts, decorations and so on. If the family in the movie had a traditional, religious view of the celebrations, perhaps they wouldn't have been so open to learning about and incorporating the Hanukkah traditions as well.

IF Hallmark is trying to air openness, why not openness in their commercials also? They claim they embrace the LBGTQ community and will in their movies, why not their commercials?

That’s the whole thing that annoyed me yesterday they have this public campaign of ‘we Are making every effort to be more inclusive blah blah blah’ then put out stuff that’s to inclusive as a southern bless your heart is to politeness. Basically a smug sarcastic - well here you go..... I know I’m not expressing myself well.

According to Forbes, Hallmark has changed its decision. No comment from Zola yet.

Hallmark Channel reverses decision to pull ads featuring same-sex coupleBY ARIS FOLLEY - 12/15/19 10:10 PM EST The president and CEO of Hallmark, Inc., announced on Sunday that the company will be reversing a controversial decision it made earlier this month to pull advertisements that featured a lesbian couple getting married and kissing. The executive, Mike Perry, said on Sunday that the team at the parent company behind The Hallmark Channel, Crown Media Family Networks, has “been agonizing over this decision as we’ve seen the hurt it has unintentionally caused.” “Said simply, they believe this was the wrong decision. Our mission is rooted in helping all people connect, celebrate traditions, and be inspired to capture meaningful moments in their lives. Anything that detracts from this purpose is not who we are. We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused,” he continued. The statement comes amid a wave a backlash the company has faced over its decision, including from high-profile figures like 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg (D). The move by the company earlier this month had arrived after a petition created by a conservative group condemning its decision to air the ads racked up over 26,000 signatures. ** “The decision not to air overt public displays of affection in our sponsored advertisement, regardless of the participants, is in line with our current policy, which includes not featuring political advertisements, offensive language, R-rated movie content and many other categories,” the representative said. ** thehill.com/homenews/media/474672-hallmark-channel-reverses-decision-to-pull-ads-featuring-same-sex-couplesI saw 2 women kissing. No where near overt though! Hallmark and Zola will be meeting to discuss the next moves. @zingermack hop2 lucyg epeanymous mom

I guess there's a shit ton more people who love LGBTQ family and friends who will stand up for their equal rights to marriage and representation, than there are "morally" triggered bigots. Good to see!

I like the fact that Hallmark actually said they were wrong, instead of a lame "sorry if our actions" blah blah apologies.

I like the fact that Hallmark actually said they were wrong, instead of a lame "sorry if our actions" blah blah apologies. It was one of the most thoughtful apologies I've seen in commerce. I make cards and I don't watch Hallmark movies, but I will go out of my way to try to support them based on their reversal to caving to the small-minded anti-love crowd.

Lifetime's Christmas movies are often better than Hallmark's. Several this season on Lifetime had gay couples in them- not as the main couple but in secondary roles.
