What's starting to happen around here is that the grooms to be are planning elaborately scripted proposals and then the groom's to be parents host an elaborate party immediately after the proposal. Everyone but the bride to be (supposedly), knows about the pending proposal.
I have one friend whose son asked his bride to be to get engaged in a very public place. The invitees to the engagement party where all in a restaurant overlooking the public place, so they all got to witness the proposal. I would have been mortified if I had been that bride.

A friend of mine got pregnant with her first. Her grandmother gets on Facebook and writes this darling note about how excited she is about their new baby, how she hopes she’s not too sick with morning sickness, and to enjoy her first pregnancy. She stuck it right on my friends wall, so EVERYONE saw it. My friend never got to have the big baby announcement because her grandma stole her thunder. I've had my hand over my mouth for a few months about my first grandbaby on the way. Sweet DIL recently posted it on FB, but I'm still trying to low-key it because they are so chill about the social media stuff. I don't want to be one of 'those' MILs. I also asked before I shared the photo of a Thanksgiving day engagement of another son. She thanked me for asking and said I could share away. Oh that's wonderful news, congratulations all round, to the parents to be and to you, " soon to be Grandma"
