Wow! Did 2019 go fast for anyone else? Even my kids say it went too fast. Well, here's to a better organized scrap room in 2020.
This challenge is so you have bragging rights over cleaning up after your craft session, or finally scrubbing that floor that hasn't been touched in a month (or more if you're me), organizing a supply or your whole room, sorting or editing photos, organizing page kits, basically anything that’s not actually crafting that needs to get finished in the craft room. Note for teams: If you’re on the team challenge you can claim 10 point for each hour spent. Your time doesn’t have to be consecutive. You can claim a bonus point for before and after photos. grammadee

Edited and ordered 167 photos this week! I was way behind(October -December)
I ordered from snapfish ( penny each)and I really like their editing program. I think I'm going to try to use it first next time. Its really easy and looks like it does a good job.
I'll still have to do my 2 x3's though so it won't help much.
I also printed a bunch of our sketches and did one this week. I'll post it on its thread.

well done @elaynef thanks for setting this up LisaDVmy 8-cube unit has arrived so hopefully DH will assemble it soon and bring the futon to the dump. I've been spending time organising digital photos and backing up files. Nothing fun but...needful

Yesterday I grabbed a screwdriver and removed one of the shelves of my Cost-kog cart. I can see my stamps and dies now without squatting down as much, and I can see and reach all the way to the back, so I was able to move my Christmas stamps and dies to that area behind the bin that holds my regular supplies. I didn’t have much in the 2nd shelf anyway because it wasn’t very accessible. I put all the embossing stuff (and my tiny stash of foil stuff) into a box that I can lift out of the bottom shelf when I need it. The rest of the bottom shelf holds watercolors, markers, and colored pencils, mostly in a large cosmetics bag I can pull out. In the very back of the bottom where nothing can be seen I stashed the spray glue, white acrylic paint, and a couple of other things I rarely use that are too tall for my drawer. Now if I can rearrange the top shelf to accommodate my paper I’ll be set, without buying anything new. I’m not sure if it will work out, but I think if I re-home my card bases to the storage I have behind me it might. Fingers crossed! http://instagram.com/p/B6ymOAjJ8vc

Great job, @elaynef . I always dreaded the photo editing part. With digital I just edit as I go. Yay for your unit arriving, Linda , one step closer! Photo organizing and backup is very needful. I've been trying to make a habit of downloading and backing up photos monthly-ish for the past several months. It helps that it's a challenge on a digital site I sometimes go to. Now I need to fold in the other family members photos. yikes. joblackford , great job making what you have work for you! What is that little white thing on the side of the now second shelf? I saw M's has a cart with peg board down one side. Even though I don't have room or space, I really wanted it but was good and didn't purchase.

I knew that little thing would catch someone’s eye. It’s a Japanese condiment organizer for inside your fridge! It’s supposed to hold the little tubes of wasabi and mustard most Japanese people have in their fridge, which are small and hard to store. I thought I needed it for those things but we stopped buying them, so I clipped it onto my craft cart instead. I used to store a lot of small tools in it but it wasn’t the most functional solution after a while. So I have my 3 bottles of Nuvo drops and my embossing powder tool in it - in other words, 4 things that I almost never use. I prefer my little embossing bag - my powder tool came with a messed up brush that sheds on my projects. And the Nuvo drops are just not my thing, not for regular use anyway. I should probably declutter the whole shebang! I dislike that the organizer is cream - I prefer things to be either white or another color, but not almost-white.
I can post a proper picture of the organizer here and if someone can make better use of it they can claim it.
I’m always tempted by peg boards and clip on cups and all that jazz.

I have been working on organizing my papers. I spectated them all according to a couple categories. I’m also trying to get her them from all the spots I have them stashed around the house. I separated most of the kits I had around. I need to organize my card stock next. My goal this year is to just use up the majority of the card stock. I really only back photos with card stock. I started gathering my embellishments. I separated by color a while ago and like it but I think what I want to do is keep packages together until I use the majority up and then separate. For now as I find them around I’m just tossing them in a box to deal with later. My end goal is to reduce my storage from about 4 storage areas down to 2 areas. I’m starting to think it may be impossible. I’m trying to be open minded that if I attempt to move the items enough I can figure it out like a game of Tetris. It’s really hard though. Lol.

yesterday I sorted the 5 photo orders I had sitting on my desk into page protecters by layout and into the correct albums- that was quite a project. And I placed a photo order to finish out 2019 (I hope)

ecvnj58, good luck with your goal of reducing storage areas. Great job on pp organization!! Linda, that is quite the task. Fantastic job! Glad you got your (fingers crossed) last 2019 order in too. It's wonderful that you are making progress. I've done nada, zilch, zero. I am getting things off my regular to do list though, just not in the craft room, so there's that.

I watched a great Facebook Live video on organizing by Alice Boll of Scrap Happy. She’s doing one a week this month. I haven’t actually tried the stamp organizing yet but I want to. One problem: a few years ago I took a bunch of stamps off their sheets and put them willy nilly on stamp storage pages in a binder. The problem is some of them fall off (and they’re not categorized). I want to put them in Avery Elle envelopes. Any suggestions for new backing sheets? fbwat.ch/1EtLbsu2GU1RwtDE

And thrilled it works without being logged into Fbk I deactivated my account. I'm trying to think on what you could use for backing sheets that would be cost effective and safe for the stamps but so far no ideas. Would cutting up the stamp storage pages make sense? washing the stamps in gentle soapy water might restore the stick. Or using a little bit of 2 way glue on the back surface, or on the backing sheet you use. I'm thinking some kind of cheap glossy paper or cardstock... I'm not sure...

I made space somehow on the top of my Cost-kog cart, enough to fit the organizer full of paper and cardstock I had to remove the bin of pre-folded card bases and I haven't found a good place to stash those yet (because I've been busy doing other things) but they don't block my desk as much as the big paper organizer did, so it's a win overall. Here's how the top shelf looks right now. I have the stamping tools and folders of scrap white paper and scoreboard held up vertically with an old display piece from when Aaron Bros closed down. It's not ideal, but it works better than nothing. I'm a huge fan of vertical organizing. It doesn't look pretty right now, but it works fairly well. I'm glad I got the costco version of the raskog because 12" paper fits both ways in the cart, giving me a lot of options for organizing. If anyone has a great use for it in their room, just say the word and you can have it. Organizing Jan 2020 by jo.blackford, on Flickr Organizing Jan 2020 by jo.blackford, on Flickr

justjac , I just started the organization video and already impressed that she's said these are things that work for her and you have to find things that work for you. I've looked into what to put stamps on a while back (at least 2 years ago) so I purchased what was consider a great & reasonable product for back then. I'm not sure if something new and better is out there. Disclaimer over: I purchased Grafix arts, dura-lar .003 clear film in 9x12 sheets. It's archival quality too. You cut them to what size you want. -- Can you tell that tackling my stamps has been on my to-do list for quite some time?? Someday! joblackford , it looks like you have a great use for that condiment organizer (thanks for letting me know what it was). I think it's great! Your cart looks fab too. I agree, 12x12 paper storage on your desktop takes up too much room, so the top of the cart is perfect for it.
OK, off to finish the video.

I love how I’m the video she photocopies her stamps. I love the idea of having all my stamps cataloged and then just finding what you need. I feel like I would use them more.

I have the 200+ pics I ordered and I thought y'all might get a kick of how I organize them after I cut the 2x3's in half. I also order a lot of 6x4 and I have no method to determine what size I order except the really nice ones.
I have 12 grands that I make books for so I do a family at a time.
Each family has 4 kids. This is the first family, then I will put 4 more albums on the floor and continue the process. Then I will stuff them all in page protectors until I get to actually making pages. (in chronological order)
Of, course there will be some pics I don't use and they might go in someone else's book. and I might end up with leftovers or have to order more pics.

Sounds like you have your system down, @elaynef. That’s always a good thing.
I’m taking it that each album is for a specific grand. Do you do like some scrapbookers and create multiple pages of a similar design for the same event that includes more than 1 grand?

Yes, lisa, everyone has separate albums specific to them and their interests.
I think one or two of them have 8 total. None of them live nearby but they and their moms are really good about sending me pictures. We all love photography..scenic and portrait but I'm the only one that prints them.
We usually all meet somewhere at least once a year and everyone gets pictures and shares those, too.
Every page is different because I dont plan ahead, just use whatever supplies I have available.
Thanks for being interested!

Alice Boll did another organizing video today. I didn’t get as much out of this one as the last one. I want to try her stamp organization system. LisaDV thanks for the idea for plastic sheets. I think I’m going to buy some of them. fbwat.ch/1cTLn8CfGalcV30U

Today after the Cybercrop, I actually put away most all the supplies to leave to clean surface areas. My freshly created layouts are still on this one and just a couple of other items that didn’t get put away.

Loving this thread. I have been not able to scrap much for the past couple of years because I have been in school and working full time. I graduated in December and can finally use my space for scrapping instead of schoolwork. Yay!
I’m going to a weekend retreat at the end of the month, so I have been in my room going through supplies and getting ready. I ordered photos the other day and spent a lot of time this weekend looking through my papers and getting organized for the retreat. I even scrapped a few pages. I’m enjoying reading everyone’s posts about their organizing process and hope to contribute some ideas also.

After looking for letter stickers for a title today, I was thinking I should just discard all of them. I have a ton and i seldom find any that I can use.
Instead, I tried to organize them..by color and size. Some of the big, crazy ones I kept for possibly using in a cluster or a tag.
I think they will ultimately get dumped because that's been the fate of most of my organization projects lately.
I guess many of us have been finding that too much stuff sometimes inhibits creativity.

cannmom , congratulations on your graduation!!! Are you making page kits for your retreat? @elaynef , yay for alpha organization! Thanks! I'm sorta, kinda making page kits as in I'm putting together pp that I can see myself using together on a layout. Nothing planned out with photos though. So, not really! LOL, I guess I'm mostly sorting, fondling and becoming reacquainted with my pp. Maybe after my photos are delivered I will be able to make some real kits. I need to try to find where I may have stashed some photos also. I'm missing some I know I printed sometime last year.

Wow, LisaDV, those counters look VERY clean and organized! I had a couple of 20 x 20" spaces clear for Saturday morning, but stuff is piling up on them again. Claiming points for spending the morning organizing, although this house certainly is not LOOKING very organized LOL. Am still stumbling along, getting the Christmas décor down into the basement. Almost all is down there now, except for the tree, which will be my task tomorrow. Then I got the bright idea to take my Christmas albums down there, too, to save myself some shelf room up here. Then I started moving and reorganizing the albums on the shelves. If you give a mouse a cookie... Have fun prepping for your crop, cannmom . My alphas need to be sorted too, @elaynef , but that is not going to happen today. Apparently, lifting heavy albums over one's head to put on shelves is not friendly to one's back. Should have take the time to get the step stool. Like Cindy used to say, "Getting old is not for sissies!" Bad enough that I forget where stuff is, but thinking I can do everything the way I used to be able to is really not a good plan. I need to take an advil and lie down for a little while now.

Well I wasn’t planning on cleaning or organizing my craft space this month but we need to fix an issue with our dryer vent. Apparently the vents behind the wall fell apart so we need to open the wall...of my craft space...to fix it. So DH said while the wall was open we’d upgrade the lighting in that room.
With my space needing to be packed up to do this I moved a desk and things in a corner of our bedroom. It’s a nice little space there and I had to chose what to move with me. It’ll be interesting to see what I really use and what I shouldn’t buy anymore. Spent about two hours doing all of that yesterday and now I’m ready to craft again!

I'm mostly sorting, fondling and becoming reacquainted with my pp. We all need to do this on occasion just to be reminded of all the pretties. Wow, LisaDV, those counters look VERY clean and organized! I had a couple of 20 x 20" spaces clear for Saturday morning, but stuff is piling up on them again. Well they were.... I took out papers for Valentines Day cards yesterday and that on the center island stand and today I started going through embellishments and pulling things and they are now on the long counter-styled surface. oh well. Ouch. Definitely not for sissies. I hope your back feels better. Do you have a heating pad? boymom5, I'm so torn between "that stinks that you have to tear out your wall" to "how awesome to get new lighting"! At least you are thinking positively. It is a great opportunity to see what you really will use. So what made the initial list of must move with you?
