now that I’ve complained about ‘family’ oriented stuff I’m still buying quite a bit of Steven Duncan’s family game night besides the game specific pages the vibe is great and versatile and it’s on point with the resurgence of mid century modern that’s current. That line is bonkers good and so versatile. You can document TV series, music, games played with friends or family, etc. I was really surprised at how much use I could get out of it although we're childfree when I started looking at the individual chipboard pieces and papers. Yes, making papers work for families w/no kids, or older kids. For friends. What a concept! Expanding your market! Who would have thought of it!

I will be honest - I don't see being on a DT as a big deal. I almost never go to them for my inspiration, so I don't care who is on them. I've done all the DT gigs - the pay (if any) sucks, the demands are high and for what? So you can pimp out your family? #nothanks #lessonlearned While at one time, being on a DT was something but now? I just dont think it is. The days of someone 'becoming something' because of being on a DT are pretty much gone. I think now more people search out those who they want to see by finding them on their own. I haven't looked at Ali's DT work in years. But I did find Brandi on insta (through her OH Harriet series) and now follow her. Makes zero difference to me that she is on a DT. Or that she's white. 🤷♀️ Preach, sister! LOL. i couldn't agree more. i've always been baffled by people who go gaga over DT members. as if those people walked on water and as if their talents rose above everyone else. i've seen some AMAZING work from people who have never been on DTs. to me, DTs are there to pimp the products, the manufacturers, and whoever is providing them with the merch for their creations. i'm more interested in the crafters who buy their own stuff, who buck the trends and think outside the box with technique and products.

Isn't it the only way you become a big deal if you create your own line? and that a big company will fund it? I'm thinking Vicki Boutin (cause she's Canadian) and Shimelle etc. Or if you are Becky Higgins and fund your own crap. DT members are just meh now a days. I'm more impressed by those who can get big companies to back you up and launch your line.

I actually have more respect for the cottage stores because they not only design, but manufacture and distribute, their product. Vicki sends her designs to AC who foots the bill for the production run. Independents like Becky Higgins and Kelley purkey have to pay that cost themselves.

Many times its only because of who they know and what they look like.

Just posting this here in case someone who documents wintery things with darker-skinned children/people didn't see it yet, Carta Bella's current winter collection Snow Much Fun features some and even used an African-American girl for the collection logo! In case anyone wants to stock up or drop an email to Carta Bella to express appreciation for diversity inclusion. I have no need to buy a snow collection (I live in TX, it was 80 degrees today), don't have kids, but want to buy this one just to support.

¡Viva México @charliegirl ! Hay más mexicanas o latinas en 2peas? Have you seen creaciones izzy on Youtube? I love all the books she makes. Since albums are so cost prohibitive with shipping to México or Spain many Spanish speaking scrappers make their own albums. Really cool if you are into that. I used to follow Creaciones Izzy back when I made Smashbooks. I must have unsubscribed during one of my subscription purges. I’ll have to check out her channel again. She was one of the early subs I had when I started watching scrappy videos. I like seeing non American crafters using supplies not available to me. Srushti Patil is another crafter I enjoy. I love that she makes things from scratch, not a manufactured die. She’s a great reminder of what I can do with a pencil, ruler and pair of scissors.

I sent them a FB message commending that Snow Much Fun line. They responded that they would pass my message on to the designers. Who knows if it matters, but I think they need to hear it.

Vicki and the likes don't even send in their designs. AC pitches collection themes to their name designers with professional tools that go into great detail about current trends for colour schemes, patterns, icons, etc. The name designer gets back to them with some notes + personal ideas. There's some more back and forth until both parties agree. The name designer sends in in some rough designs (brushlettering, paint swashes or basic graphics) and then the AC in-house team does all the main bulk of the graphic design work and magic. Let's not kid ourselves here. Disclaimer: definitely *not* throwing shade at anyone as it's a standard way of operating for most brands under an umbrella corporation, way beyond papercrafts.

Here is the thing - if you keep having non-diverse design teams, you keep having non-diverse products. Its a vicious cycle. I am so sick of all the same stuff being regurgitated every year or every season. I could go for a little diversity in products - in so many ways - even economically. We didn't all grow up rich white kids. I didn't grow up in an all white neighborhood or go to schools that were mostly white, and neither did my kids. We also were not at the economic level that the companies seem to think everyone is. It is insane to think that we all were on "the team" or in the National Honor Society, lived in big colonial homes or vacationed at Disney every year or at the beach. I honestly think that the main way to get diversity in products is to have diversity on design teams. Actually having people that can that the companies might actually listen to. I got tired of complaining about beach only and Disney vacation stuff, and asking for urban/city stuff. They did start doing a little bit more of it, but not much.

It’s surprising no one has mentioned the “token males” on some of these design teams. Middle age women love fawning over the handful of men that paper craft. A few companies have added a few of them to their teams in hopes of drumming up more business.

Two thoughts: Are they all still from Utah? And scrappy supplies be so white. I rarely see a person/kid of color. And I don't think I have seen any Latinos/Latinas in collections. And now I am going to stereotype (because I'm Mexican and taught Mexican children for 29 years). It is a very expensive hobby. It is also portrayed as uncool and oh so white in the media. I go to two or three scrappy retreats a year. I can count on one hand the number of POC that attend these. Well, two hands, if I count myself. Ditto. And thank you for not using that stupid "Latinx" (I read it Lahteenks in my head ) I abhor that term!

We didn't all grow up rich white kids. Yeah! I mean, I'm white, but where's the travel line with the converted utility van with vinyl seats? The blue cooler you had to sit on if you were being bad?
A line with sayings like youngest gets the hand me downs or once in a lifetime vacation! Said vacation is traveling in the utility van across the country with no air conditioning. Hey, it was the 80's.

And this is why I don't really discuss my hobbies and interests outside of the community.
But the people in my life who know I like crafting never have issues with asking me for help doing something...starting with 'can you help me with this specific piece of an idea I have' which seems to turn into 'this is what I want, do the whole thing and I'll be over in a couple of days to pick it up' It's not uncool then.
I remember watching Shark Tank a few years ago and there were some grandmas who made fun of the hobby. Then a few months later a comedian called women who scrapbook creepy. I feel like when I mention it, it is under my breath and then I quickly move past it so it's not the focus of conversation. A support staffer at my kids' elementary school mentioned scrapbooking all casually like it was something everybody did when we were talking one day and it took me so aback that I didn't say anything. I was worried that I would come across TOO enthusiastic if I did, lol.
DIYing and being creative in general is actually quite on trend these days, but scrapbooking still gets snubbed. I don't get it.

Diversity alert: Prima's brand new summer collection called Surfboard represents different skin tones on women and men as well as larger sizes. And a dog on a skateboard. Double thumbs up!

Different skin tones-Yay!! Larger sizes-Yay!!! The larger sizes makes these women look like, well, women. I am not a prima fan, but now I might have to change my mind.

I haven't seen yet, but I know I read something about how Mexicans (from Mexico) are offended by the usage of the "x" as well. By nature, Spanish language is gendered. So to disregard the use of Latino as a general descriptor is just grammatically wrong.

I can’t tell you what I’d like to see, because I might not think of it. I was the middle aged white woman with 1 boy & 1 girl who needs a smattering of non Christian stuff. Diversity of people naturally helps to bring different experiences & different needs & views. I definitely think that a diversity of people can infuse some life into the preprinted words & phrases. I mean how many times can you use ‘believe’ year after year after year. ( and I know it will never happen but there are days I could have used an F-you phrase or maybe at least F*@king cancer ) can there be a non pearl clutchers company with stamps & dies for the times when a curse word is ‘my authentic truth’ & just what’s needed? I can’t tell you how refreshing a case of the blahs was for blah days, but there’s angry days, grumpy days and so on. I mean if we are really going to be ‘authentic’ I so agree with this. I have depression, and I know many people with depression. These rainbows and Pinteresty positive psychology quotes are bs! The best card I’ve ever received is one from a friend with a gray felt cloud that just says, “Crap.” THAT’S what I want to make.
