We recently moved into a new home and I made the comment that I liked our new address. My husband looked quizzical and I explained that over the two years of house hunting, I had mentally ruled some of them out because I hated the address. He was dumbfounded and said no one does that but me.
Is it just me?
It really never came up as a dealbreaker - thank goodness - but I'm glad we have a pleasant sounding address. Sue me. I just am.
Help me out here. Anybody else think about things like this?

I understand.
It brings to mind the last time we were house hunting. Our realtor wanted to show us a house on Failing Street and I gave her a big "Nope!"
Our last few houses have been on numbered streets and it always takes me FOREVER to learn my new address because numbers just don't stick in my head.
For awhile, I lived on Tillamook Street like Ellen Tebbits in the Beverly Cleary books. I liked that 😊

Well, when I lived at 1666 SW 16th Street, a friend said: "Ooh, aren't you scared? That's the mark of the devil!" Slept real well that night.

I do!! And, I also care. We were supposed to build a new house this year and I HATED the street name. Absolutely hated it. It didn’t work out for various reasons, and we bought an existing home on a street with a lovely name, and it makes me so happy. 😂 I totally get it!

My house is a dirty sex position and a woman's name. I quite like it. haha!!!
Our old address was booooooooooring. I lived on "the numbered streets". No fun there.
An od address would never stop me fro buying my dream home but I do see some addresses here and there and think "Yuck".

We have a five digit address and the last three are 911. Not my favorite.

I've loved both our street names in CA, so I get it. I'm not sure I'd rule out a house completely because of the address, but when we bought this house we also had an offer in on another one that I was less enthusiastic about the street name. ETA I much prefer a named street over numbered, but have bought both.

Well... most of the streets in my city are numbers and most intersections are numbers intersecting with other numbers so it's confusing as well as boring. To make it try to make sense, avenues go one way, and streets go the other. Still confusing!
When we were house hunting we looked at one house (out of 22) that was not on a numbered street/avenue...sigh.
I grew up on a number street as well (not in this city), so when I had addresses with a real name I loved it... and weirdly enough they were almost all state names... California Street! Vermont Street! Oregon Street! Now I'm back to numbers...
The second and third digit in my house and street number are the same so it sort of flows... I'd prefer a named street though.

Back when I was shipping out dozens of packages a month for work, I would notice when people had particularly nice sounding street or town names. The street I live on now is uncommon and kind of hard to spell and say. The rumor is that when they were making the street signs for the development, someone misspelled the street name on all the signs and it would have been too costly to redo them so they just decided, “Well, I guess that’s what it’s going to be then!” Whoops.

my in laws live on a county road.. about 200 yds long. it never had a name.. but county decided it was time for a name. there are two houses on the road. the other neighbor thought it should be his name.. and my in laws were not having it. so the compromise was "trails end lane".. they still all pick up mail at the post office. the road is in the woods and ends at the cliff above the beach.

We have a rural county road address and I HATE IT!!!!! It has to be input a certain way for correct postal delivery and my husband likes to give out the abbreviated version. Drives me nuts.

I totally get it. When we were househunting we found a house on Sesame St and I so wanted it to be the one just for the address.

The street names in my neighborhood are all British and horse themed. My street name is two parts and always mispronounced when people read it back to me. But it’s a pretty sounding street. Very upper crust and posh. 😉

Our street is Belle Mina Way. It’s a mouthful to say, and even harder to convey over the phone. But when you say it, it just rolls so easily, and I do like it.

I have liked most of the names of the streets we have lived on. My favorite was Hickory Street. We also lived on Shadeberry, which sounded nice, but what the heck is a Shadeberry? We used to have a lake cabin in Drowning Creek Cove. Who wants to live on the lake in Drowning Creek Cove?

Congratulations on your new home!!
I do agree with you. When I bought my house (with my 1st husband), it was charming, in an ideal neighborhood, had room to grow... everything I wanted. The street address just topped it off and made it seem that much more perfect!
Where we've lived down here is a crazy address; nonsensical. This is the 3rd apartment we've moved into in the same complex and I hate the long #s on the street address, and I hate the address in general. Even hate the name of the town!
Anyway, enjoy your new abode! Hope you have a wonderful future in it!!

Unfortunately my street name is one that has to be spelled out for most people to get right. With a last name that definitely has to be spelled out, it becomes tedious to give my name and address.

I've always live on streets with numbers, not names and the only thing I've noticed about those addresses is that my 3 permanent residences (the house I grew up in and the 2 houses my husband and I have owned) all end with an "ABA" pattern. So XX606; XX303; XX121. Oh, the townhouse we lived in right after getting married is the same: XX909 I can't remember the address of my apartment between college and marriage.

Yes I love our street name and it was part of the draw to this house. I am in a rural area where many houses are like N1567 145th st...bleeccch! I would absolutely be more drawn to a house if it had a good address. You are NOT alone!

Our old house was on a street name that had to be spelled and was always mispronounced. I could not stand it! It was on the list to find a house on a “ better street name”. Current house is a four word woman’s name and I never have to spell it.

Our current address is just fine - but I really liked our old address. We lived on Evergreen Lane and I just loved the sound of Evergreen Lane.
my sister’s address has five digits in the number and that just seems like too much I don’t think I’d want five digits in my number...
Edited - I still remember when I was in college one of my sorority sisters address was on Mansion House Lane - I think it was in the UK or Ireland and I thought that was pretty funny

I get it. When we were house hunting, I refused to look at homes on streets I'd have to spell out. I wasn't going to put up with that for years!

It's just 4 numbers for the house and 2 numbers for the street. Nothing good or bad. We don't use it because we "live in a box", get our mail at the post office so my address is Box ###. That number is nothing special or wierd either.

Raising my hand and sliding next to you on the weirdo bench. 😂 yep, I love my address and the one I had before that, too. Sometimes I’ll see someone’s address and mentally say “ew.”

Well, when I lived at 1666 SW 16th Street, a friend said: "Ooh, aren't you scared? That's the mark of the devil!" There's a town near here whose zip code ends in 666 and some people literally refuse to live there. ETA I much prefer a named street over numbered, but have bought both. I've never lived on a numbered street. They're on my *list* of street names I would want. The rumor is that when they were making the street signs for the development, someone misspelled the street name on all the signs and it would have been too costly to redo them so they just decided, “Well, I guess that’s what it’s going to be then!” My old hometown had a Tuskeegee Street (misspelled if you aren't aware - it's Tuskegee) When we were househunting we found a house on Sesame St and I so wanted it to be the one just for the address. Hahahahaha. Anyway, enjoy your new abode! Hope you have a wonderful future in it!! I love this house so much! I can't wait to tell my husband!
