I want to put a row of Easter eggs across the bottom of flour sack towel. They were all cut individually and not sure the best way to make sure they are lined up straight before I apply heat. I thought maybe put a long piece of removable tape, then remove before heating. I dont have a fabric marker. Any good ideas? Thanks.

Do you have a Harbor Freight in your area? I saw a YouTube video a while ago where someone was using something like this: www.harborfreight.com/laser-marker-93242.html to do what you want to do. I need to get one myself, but haven’t yet because I haven’t done a lot of stuff with multiple colors and separate cut pieces. Hope this helps!

I wonder if I just fold up the towel and press it, and use that line?

I wonder if I just fold up the towel and press it, and use that line? Yes, that is it! It is suggested to fold a shirt in half and press a line to help center a design. So that would be the best bet.

I wonder if I just fold up the towel and press it, and use that line? This is the way I would do it. Just make sure to trim the backing down enough so that it doesn’t get under the next egg. That way, you can press them all together. Otherwise the “line” will disappear when you adhere the first egg. They do make heat resistant tape as well. Tape

I make HTV stuff all the time.....I would do the fold method if you don’t plan to do a bunch of HTV stuff. If you plan to do lot of HTV stuff with lots of colors, I would get heat tape. It’s great for keeping things in place when you press. You pull it off after you’ve pressed your image.

I forgot to mention the Blue PET Heat tape (silicone) that a few have mentioned. I do a lot of heat transfer vinyl with a lot of different colors and refuse to waste so much HTV just to make it "easy" to line up! The tape I use can be reused several times.
Another thing, IF you don't have heat tape yet, you CAN use perfectly clear carrier sheet that you peeled off other projects That is only good for a time or two but great in a pinch.
Just remember, do NOT have overlapping carrier sheets UNDER your vinyl. And the best cover sheet is regular parchment paper for baking. Just make sure it doesn't have a special coating and do NOT mistake wax paper for parchment paper. If you can do a one second tack, peel off carrier sheet, cover with parchment paper and finish the time on the press, THAT helps to not have a carrier sheet crease on something and makes for a better "finish" on some times of HTV.

Good point about the parchment. I actually have some Teflon sheets that I use for this. They are really great about holding in the heat, which helps the HTV melt into the item you are transferring the HTV onto. This is is a great deal for the Teflon sheets and the tape! I use the Teflon sheets too. I like that they’re reusable indefinitely. On a related note, I made myself a set of assorted sizes of pressing pillows out of a yard of the silver ironing board cover material and a piece of 1/2” thick foam from JoAnn’s. It was so much cheaper to make them myself than it was to buy a set. They make a huge difference especially for things where the seams might make it harder to press the HTV totally flat.

Have you used them with a regular iron (vs a heat press)? I’m thinking of making some onesies as a baby gift, but ironing around those seams is a PITA!

I went ahead and ordered some high temp heat tape. Any tips? Will it leave lines on the HTV?

Since I got the heat press that’s all I’ve used because it’s so much easier than trying to get enough pressure with a regular iron and to hit all the areas of the transfer equally. I think I bought a yard of foam and a yard of the fabric and cut the foam so it would be a good assortment of sizes for my press without wasting any. One is about 6”x8” or so which is perfect for inside a onesie vertically or a toddler t-shirt horizontally. It’s pretty slick.

Since I like to use a lot of colors AND not waste so much HTV by weeding so much off just to make it easy to line up, the heat tape is SO worth it. I DO have a small very narrow amber one that came with my cap heat press that works just fine too.
One other thing, I could swear that the Siser Facbook group (for consumers) says that Teflon sheets block some of the heat, that is why they've gone to recommending parchment paper as a cover sheet. I started using parchment paper because the Teflon sheets was causing a fabric pattern on TOP of the Siser Electric vinyl (pearlized). Since it was a layered design, I knew it wasn't coming from underneath from the actual fabric. And I prefered my hummingbird ruby throat being smooth!

I got the coppery one too. Is it reusable? It seemed to still have some sticky left.

I usually stick them the edge of a clean metal surface, usually the edge of my magnetic bowl that I have in my craft room.
