Uh, yeah. My name is super common (so I was always surrounded by other Jennifers) but unique enough that I could never get a personalized pencil. Dammit. I went to school with a gennifer and college with one. They were both me! I am legion. 🤣🤣🤣

While my name is not uncommon, I never had another Joy in any class. I've known a handful of Joy's in my life. I was named after my mom's best friend in kindergarten ~ circa 1925. I actually love my name because you have to be a happy person because of it. I once dated a guy in college with the last name of Moody and everyone told me I couldn't marry him because I'd be Joy Moody.

My name was 75th on the list of top 100 names for the year. There was a girl in my elementary school class with the same name but we were the only 2 in our school. There was no one in high school with my name- 1400 students.

Yep. There were five with my first name in my class at primary school. My siblings and I all have pretty bog standard first names as we had an unusual surname, and our parents felt that it would make life easier, and make us stand out less.

Nope. My name is Marjorie. To this day I don't see many Marjorie's. I was named after my Grandmother.

My siblings and I all have pretty bog standard first names as we had an unusual surname, and our parents felt that it would make life easier, and make us stand out less. My parents had pretty much the same thought process about our names, though they got a bit more creative by the time they got to babies 6 and 7! My name was very common when I was born, but it was on the tail end of popularity by then. My mum had intended since she was a young girl to name her first daughter Susan, after her dad's little sister who died aged 3. It just so happened that it was having a surge of popularity in the late 50s/early 60s. I hated my name as a child, partly because there were always 3 or 4 others with my name in my class. Now, I like that I carry a little bit of my family history with me, especially as that generation is gone. My older DS has a classic name, which again had a bit of a popularity surge just after he was born.As a result of that, I changed my ideas on potential names for DS2 - there was that mother's group while I was pregnant where someone called out 'Nicky and Nick, leave Nicholas alone' which took Nicholas completely off the table.

I don't consider my name uncommon but when at school (Kindy to year 12) there was only ever one other girl with the same name and in my working life I have only worked with one other in the late 70's.
Our DD has a common name, not my choice, and I have never really liked it and she is often called by her nickname.

My name is Jennifer - which I'm pretty sure ranks as the #1 most popular girls name through the entire 1970s. 😂 ETA - there were 5 Jennifers in my high school English class senior year. 🙋🏻♀️ Sing it sister!

Nope. My name is Jane. I had an Aunt Jane but I didn’t know any other Jane’s for years. I really wanted to name my 19 year old DD Jane. My ex-husband wasn't having it. So I got Jane as her middle name. And yes all because I love the Velvet Underground song Sweet Jane.

I had a common surname so my parents named me something unusual. There was only one other girl who shared my name all through my childhood, and hers was spelled differently. Once I grew up I rarely met another person with my name. Now for some reason, there are 5 of us in my church (all older than I am) and it's a popular name for youngsters. I often hear my name yelled by exasperated mothers in supermarkets, and I freeze and panic at the tone every time, even though it isn't me who is misbehaving!

I knew of 3 others with my name through school. When I went to university there were 4 of us in a residence of about 70. I don't think I've encountered another since then...over 30 years ago. We had chosen to use Emma for our second child if she was a girl. That name lasted for about 4 hours after her birth when I suddenly had a change of heart and we went with our number 2 name, Erin. Best change of mind ever...this was May of '01, shortly before Ross and Rachel had Emma. I agree with your name choice. Erin is one of my very favorite names.

There were 5 Lisa's in one of my high school classes - 20% of the class.
I never liked having a popular name. I also don't like that there is no nickname. I couldn't go by my middle name because I was named after a close relative.

In early school years, there were 5 of us with the same name in one class (and it was a small school/class less then 20), different spelling variations. For a time we’d all agree on a spelling of the week and change it to mess with teachers lol.

Sort of. My name is Kristine and I've gone by Kris since middle school. Neither the spelling nor my chosen nickname was particularly popular, but the more traditional spelling of Christine, nickname Christy, or else a variation like Kristin, were way more popular.

My name is Tracy. Now you know how old I am. When my students learn my first name there are always kids in the class who say "that's my mom's name". There were 5 of us in my high school class, 4 girls and a boy. No one except the boy spelled it my way. There was a Traci, Tracey, and Tracee. And then in the mid 70s the name disappeared. I've taught literally thousands of kids in 26 years. I've taught only 2 Tracy's. I love my name.

I hate my name. It is horrible, ugly, guttural sounding. And now it’s being used as an insult all over the internet. Yep. It’s Karen. My DH never, ever uses my name. He hates it too. No one in my personal life uses it. No one. They just avoid calling me anything. My favorite thing to be be called is “Mom” by our DD. Better yet, I am “Grammie” the name my grandson chose for me. My name is Karen too. I think my parents were a little behind the times because I am the only Karen I know around my age. Like you, I never loved it. I don’t hate it, but it never suited my personality. Most people call me KB, but work people call me Karen. My mom says she wishes she named me Meghan. She also wishes she didn’t name my brother “John” ... naming human beings we have never met is a huge task! My nephews love that they have an “Aunt Karen” and have a great time terrorizing me with Karen Memes. It is cute. They are young teens, so this is super funny to them. Their giggles when they press send from across the room make me laugh For the record: I have never asked to speak to the manager, never rocked “that” haircut and I don’t drive a minivan

My name is not popular and even when it was, it was not spelled the way mine is. I did graduate with somone with the same name and spelling, but I didnt know her (class of 600 people). Dh's name also wasnt popular when he was born and he also has an unusual spelling of it. DS' name became popular within a year or two of his birth. He has the traditional spelling of his name, but people still misspell it.

I was born in 1960. I was named “Virginia” after my grandmother. I’ve always been called “Ginny” which is short for Virginia. Everything was fine until the seventies came along and every other girl was named “Jennifer” and called “Jenny.”
To this day, when I go to a restaurant and there is a waitlist, and they ask me for my name I say “Ginny, G-I-N-N-Y.” Every single time, without fail, they write down “Jenny,” even as I’m spelling my name.

I’m a Linda so yes, a very common name. However, I never had another Linda in my class or in my circle of friends so I’ve always been the only one.
I like my name. I travel a lot and it’s nice to have an international name. Many Norwegian names are difficult to pronounce i English

My first name is Shannon. I was born in the early 70s and had up to three Shannon's in my grade at one time. In French class we were referred to by our hair color - I was Shannon la rouge (i think that's how write it - it's been 30 years). I have not met a Shannon in a long time who is under the age of 40. It seems to be a less common name now, but I love my name. I think it is beautiful.

The most common spelling of my name was in the top 50 throughout the 60s. I never met another person with their name spelled the same as me until the 90s. You and I have the same first name, different spelling, but I never met anyone with their name spelled my way until the 90’s either. And she and I actually had the same middle name, too. My middle name is Marie but most Kellys I know of have Ann for a middle name.

My given name is a nickname form of a name that was very popular at the time I was born, but has since fallen out of favor. There were always a few of us in every classroom. Everyone assumes that my real name is the full version and it's very annoying when people call me the full version.

Not when I was born It started popping up when I was an older teenager and is somewhere in the top 100 these days. There's one in my DS class at school so she's 10 or 11. I should get a shirt that says I'm the original...
