It never occurred to me to wonder where our toilet paper comes from. I don’t think I’ve ever seen people stock up on it.
Does it all come from China?

I snagged a big bottle of hand sanitizer at Costco last Sunday, but it's for my classroom. At home, we'll just wash our hands...lots. Costco last night (Lynnwood, WA) wasn't too bad. I did notice people buying TP and water, but nothing was out of stock. The store wasn't overrun and crazy. That may have changed after this morning's announcements.
We went to Fred Meyer an hour ago (to buy Adirondack chairs for our fire pit because, you know, stockpiling...) DH needed a few cases of water for a conference he's presenting at next week. He said the bottled water aisle was a ghost town.

Toilet paper doesn’t come from China, but if we go into “social isolation” mode, stores/schools/businesses/etc. will close making shopping for toilet paper impossible. People will be asked to stay indoors/away from other people.

DS who lives in another city said that the grocery store had a sign saying that it was the last of the rice and beans they have in stock.

Went to Target today. They were completely sold out of masks, thermometers, Robitussin, and hand sanitizer.

Ours was a zoo today. I was there early and they had tp and wipes. I didn’t look for water or hand sanitizer, but our town Facebook page was full of reports of our Costco being out of stock.

I was in HI two weeks ago and one of our tour guides said the island only has enough supplies on the island to cover everyone for 7 days. You bet I would be stockpiling there...on the chance that boats would stop delivering.

Just got back from Target. No hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies were very picked over, and the medication aisles looked like the Christmas aisle on December 26.

Hand sanitiser and the FFP2 masks are the only thing missing in the South-East of France right now, next to the Italian epicentre. I've ordered hand santiser from my local pharmacist as I really need it (daily public transport commute). The masks are being rationed by the government and not available to civilians right now.
Plenty of rice, toilet paper and bottled water over here. The prepper attitude is very different from one culture to another.

I guess the panic hasn’t set in here. We went to Texas Roadhouse at 3 pm, a normally dead time. One hour wait time. We did call ahead seating so we didn’t have to wait. We just got back from vacation and haven’t gone to the grocery store yet.

I went today before seeing this thread. Big mistake on my part. It was a mad house. They were low on a lot of things in this thread. I overheard an employee state they are getting in trucks daily and still can’t manage the demand for items. The check out guys said it has been like this for a week. I didn’t even bother with the gas lines. It was insane even for a Saturday. Lots of conversations in the aisles. I got what I normally get and got out of dodge.

Went to Costco yesterday, the only thing I could see that they were out of were frozen pizza. No one really looked like they were stockpiling anything and it was a normal to light crowd (meaning I only had to wait in line for a short time-one person ahead of me). I did see wipes, had plenty. There were also plenty at target this morning when I went. Didn't check hand sanitizer because I have enough for awhile at home.

It seemed pretty normal, we actually only had one person in line in front of us and I didn’t notice stockpiling. But I didn’t even think to look and we didn’t look at or buy any of the mentioned items. We just did our normal type of shopping and ate in the food court.

We went to Walmart to pick up some things and it was busier than usual. We got the very last of the chicken noodle soup (which happens to be my kids fave). I bought a bunch of pantry staples we were low on and more canned goods than usual. There was no hand sanitizer and several people stalking the aisles for it. Cleaning wipes were completely wiped out but there was an open pallet in the aisle that people were grabbing from. We have plenty of soap at home and I found some travel size hand sanitizer by the registers to put in my purse.
With regard to the water, our public utility water is TERRIBLE (I’ve been told it’s has the highest ppm of minerals allowed and is the hardest water in the state). It’s barely drinkable, and this is coming from someone who grew up drinking well water. I don’t like the single use plastics from bottled water but don’t want to spend a gazillion dollars right now on a filtration system, so we buy 5 gallon jugs that we can return to be recycled. If we couldn’t/shouldn’t leave our house I want to have enough potable water for our family. I don’t foresee major infrastructure breakdown as a result of the virus, but having basic emergency supplies on hand is never a bad idea.

You cannot find masks here AT ALL! They are only sold through the pharmacies here (unopened ones that is). Hard to know if they are being held to make a higher profit once the virus hits Morocco, which is entirely plausible.
Hand sanitizer has disappeared off the shelves as well. I have not yet noticed shortages on bottled water. Fortunately we have a well that we can access water if needed.
The funny thing about toilet paper here is that many, many people use bidets. I don't even find the paper products aisle all that big here. So I am not worried about that.
People are very, very concerned about the virus hitting Morocco though. The medical system here would definitely not be able to handle outbreaks. Without doubt it would spread like a freaking wildfire here. So many do not have adequate access to keep things sanitary....talking about the a big part of the impoverished population here. Not to mention that people typically do the kissing the cheek greeting here. Not to mention that many families eat out of one large plate. Not to mention that many family members drink out of the same glass.
I feel like we are sitting on a ticking time bomb here.

I haven’t been to Costco but our local grocery store had a very limited amount of Clorox wipes. I was able to get some. I would like to stock up on some cold medication and some canned food, pasta, frozen food and snack foods. I already have a lot of hand sanitizer, hand soap, bar soap and toilet paper. I’m going to buy things we would normally eat anyway, so it’ll all end up getting used.

I live relatively close to Philadelphia, but no shortages here. Some things were low, like travel sanitizers and chicken soup (it’s flu season and norovirus is going around...I’m pretty sure the entire county, including me, has been puking. So not unusual). Target has a stock-up sale on cleaning supplies going on right now where if you spend a certain amount, you get a gift card. I wonder if that was on purpose, lol.
I already had a lot of cleaning+med basics but went ahead and topped it all off. Got extra diapers and wipes. We’ll go through it anyway.
I run a really tight pantry, for several reasons, but I think it’s too soon to stock that up. Hubby also works at a grocery store and hasn’t noticed any changes. I’m so sorry to all of you who can’t find what you need!!!!

My daughter has pneumonia and my son was home from college for the weekend; I wanted to buy her masks to protect him from getting sick from whatever underlying virus she has. I checked at 5 or 6 different places; finally the clerk at the grocery store pharmacy confessed that they've been sold out of them since December so I'm not sure the mask shortage for the general public is actually related to people stocking up for Covid-19.
The Costco I went to was not crowded or out of things on Thursday morning. There were limits on a few things (toilet paper, kitty litter & Tide Pods) but I think that was because they were on special. Walmart on Friday morning was a different matter altogether, it was a mad house and people were definitely stocking up on things. I overheard one family reading the Lysol can aloud to make sure it kills coronavirus. Spoiler alert: apparently it does!
ETA: My husband and I did go to an Aldi store in Ohio on Friday night to stock up on wine because who wants to face a potential quarantine without wine? Now that was a ghost town. Conversely, Pennsylvania state stores had a flash sale yesterday for Leap Day with everything 10% off and I did see a lot of my local friends posting photos of their wine and liquor hauls but I think that was probably related to the sale more than anything else.

If you're stuck and can't find hand sanitizer, soap and water will work The virus has a fatty layer which is dissolved using soap. Hand wash and sing Happy Birthday twice! It works. Soap and water is the best to use. Hand sanitize is just a bit more mobile, to use on the go, but still antibacterial, not necessarily for the corona VIRUS !

I went grocery shopping at the Aldi & Tops in Niagara Falls NY this morning. Aldi had lots of the hand sanitizer with 70% ethyl alcohol, 8 fl oz for 99 cents, right by the register. I bought 5. Tops had plenty of stuff on hand there wasn't a crowd of people stocking up on stuff. I went because the Panera soup was $3/9.00 and the Oven Cravers stuffed chicken (pkg of 2) was buy 2, get 4 free. A savings of over $23.00. Then, when I cashed out, there was a coupon printed for the Panera soup to get $3.00 off when you buy 3 containers of soup. So, I put the groceries in the trunk, went back in a bought 3 more pkg of soup. I can't get the Oven Cravers Stuffed Chicken Breast Entrees in Ontario nor do the stores carry Panera soup. The closest store is in Oakville, which is about 45 minutes away, depending on the traffic on the highway. I quickly popped into Walmart and there weren't any lineups at all. The biggest issue at the cash register was that New York state has banned single use plastic bags, starting today and people were very unprepared for this. They are charging 5cents for each paper bag. I always have my bags with me as in Ontario, single use plastic bags are 5cents each and I am too cheap to pay for them.

I was going to run into Costco yesterday when I was there for gas but decided against it because FRIDAY was end of month and payday. No thanks!
DH will go tomorrow after gymnastics with the youngest kiddo. He’s been instructed to get TP, tangerines, black elderberry syrup, and whatever else he wants. Lol

Regarding the shortage of masks, everything I have read is that the masks do nothing to protect you. The masks might prevent you from spreading the virus if you have it, but even then only the medical grade ones and only for up to 45 minutes (meaning you have to change them every 45 minutes). Wearing one will not prevent you from getting the virus.
I went to Fred Meyers today and though they were out of hand sanitizer they weren’t very busy and everything else was fine. This weekend was supposed to be my Costco trip, but I decided to skip it and I will see how it is Wednesday morning. My cousin went and said people were parking across the street even though the insanely large lot was full. She just kept driving.

People are in panic mode. I live in the Midwest and it's time to start preparing for tornado season. I usually stock up on household supplies to last us in case we were to lose power. I was planning on doing this tomorrow after work. I'll be curious to see if I will be out of luck on water. I think I have everything else we need for tornado season.

I went grocery shopping today. No hand sanitizer to be found, but plenty of TP and cleaning supplies.
I grabbed an extra bottle of DayQuil and an extra pack of TP. I bought rice and pasta, but only because I was out.
They’re saying still a high risk of the flu in my area so figured it wouldn’t hurt to have some meds and staples on hand just in case. I’m a single mom, so no one to run to the grocery store if I get sick and don’t feel like going out.
