Generally I don't scrapbook this type of stuff, but I will probably include something in DS album since he is a HS Senior and this is greatly altering how his HS days are going to end. I'm so sorry to your ds & all graduates who will miss being publicly honored for all their hard work.

Originally, I wasn’t going to, but the past few days have changed my mind. I have been in Australia for family reasons, and planned to return to Germany leaving Tuesday evening. Sunday, my airline decided they were no longer flying into Germany, so I had to change my flights, and got on one a day earlier. When I arrived at the airport, the departure board was full of canceled flights, so I took a photo to send my kids. Then, as we took off, our captain welcomed us aboard ‘one of the last international flights leaving Melbourne for the near future’. I decided then that I will do a page about my journey home - not direct to my home city, but to Amsterdam instead, with delays in Dubai and an overnight stay in Amsterdam, so I my entire trip will take 24 hours longer than my original plan.

I am almost home - at least I am back on mainland Europe and will be back to Munich in about 6 hours. It has been a stressful few days, and I am still tired despite a night in a lovely airport hotel, but the end is in sight. Need a few more deserted airport shots today, and I’ll be set.

Don't forget to use that Halloween bat paper for virus pages. Lol! Apparently there was a pangolin involved in the virus mutation as well. No paper for that in my stash.

I'm still in the collecting phase of documenting this pandemic.
I take screenshots of local news, especially if it has the date visible. (Maybe I'll actually scrap the pic, maybe I'll just reference it for the date).
I make notes on my big calendar. Dates of the shutdown in my city & state. Date when the schools closed.
I screenshot memes.
With the kids home all day, every day, for weeks so far (with no less than a solid month more), i take photos of what we do. Board games. Playing out back.
I need to journaling about this in my own hand, but it all is so overwhelming and constantly in my face right now.

I started emailing myself. At work, I am stunned by "the new normal" and realized that (much like having a new baby and thinking you'll remember all of it because it's so unique) I needed to record it, so I emailed myself from my work email. Then I replied to my email with thoughts from home. It's gone back and forth twice now. I type so much more easily than handwrite - I'd never succeed with a hand-written journal.

I'm not good at keeping a journal but I do email a friend daily and those emails will be a good record of what we're doing and the changes that are happening

I understand why some people want to document this time. I'm a bit older & awhile back I found the scrapbook I made back in 1963 when Kennedy was assassinated. It was important to me at the time. However, I have no interest in documenting what is going on right now. I don't want to remember the deaths, the hoarding, the social distancing, children not being able to go to school, no church and all the other awful things. If I scrapbook, it will be the fun times we have had and not the struggles now.

No but then I don't do daily documenting (other than for DD) - I normally just do travel albums.

I’ve been mentally hashtagging everything coronavirus diaries, so I plan to create something on paper soon. I haven’t decided if it will be digital or hybrid. I’m thinking of something TN sized and more of a diary format.
I just looked through my photos for last month and a good half of them have stories that can’t be told without referring to the stay at home orders, the precautions we’ve been taking even before that, and the trip we had to cancel. And that’s not even the screenshots and memes - that’s just my personal photos. I’d be hard pressed to avoid mentioning the virus in my memory keeping for March even if I wanted to. I’m not documenting every detail of the news - I’m not exposing myself to that any more than I have to. But every so often when a fact or figure makes it through it will end up in there.
I’m also planning to document delightful things that I’m hearing about from friends - one had to cancel her 6 year old’s birthday party and she was so bummed, he was really sad at first, but she secretly arranged for people in her small town to do a drive by parade down their street - the kiddo was SO excited to see 3 fire engines, a couple of trailers with makeshift parade floats, and a long line of cars with friends and neighbors waving to him and passing gifts out the windows. It was the most amazing show of love from their community. That’s definitely the kind of thing I want to record. I want Colbert doing the Late Show from his bathroom in there! Not daily updates on death tolls.

Being in my late 60s and living alone, here in the UK where we have been in lockdown for 9 out of 21 days (if not more, due to the selfishness of people not sticking to distancing and quarantine rules), I won’t want to be reminded of the loneliness of not being able to hug my daughters, my grandchildren and my friends, and my feelings of panic when I do have to go out for supplies. My daughter’s wedding was postponed for a year when our prime minister closed all restaurants just 18 hours before their ceremony. To see her heart breaking isn’t something I will ever forget. I am scrapbooking happier times of my many overseas trips to try to keep my mental health on an (almost) even keel and dream of the days when I will be able to give/receive hugs, take more photos and buy new supplies. Stay safe xx
