The young guy in Mindhunter played King George. He can sing like crazy. And act gay-crazy like everyone imagines King George acted. He was a pure joy to watch. I had to go to youtube to see him....how FUN to see the actor I've only seen as a serious FBI agent play that role! I'm not a fan of the musical (watched MANY clips, TRIED to like it, but.... ), but it was still fun to see him---thanks for the info. is that the guy who was also on glee?

"Mindhunter" (Netflix) is based on the true story of FBI agents in the 1970s who were the first to analyze WHY people murdered/raped, etc. It is hard to watch some scenes-- I have to fast forward sometimes. Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFlKiTwhd38 I haven't watched the epis with Charles Manson, "Son of Sam", and others yet, but I read that the actors portraying them are amazingly accurate. Charles Manson was spot on. Eta: I read John Douglas's book Mindhunter when I was much younger. It was fascinating

I am hating Season 2 because they've made her so weak. I'm on the 4th episode, but think I'm going to give it up. I just can't stand watching her now. We weren't going to watch it but ended up watching because we like the actress. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and had its good moments.

I've been slowly watching " After Life" (Netflix) and I just love the mixture of sadness, love, and subtle humor. The actress that plays Ricky Gervais's wife is also in another WONDERFUL series he created called "Derek" (Netflix) If you're a Ricky Gervais fan, I HIGHLY recommend it ! trailer for "Derek" : www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3UvuoCFDcs
Derek is a man with an (undisclosed) mental disability who volunteers in a care home for the elderly. I wonder if Ricky Gervais has a tender heart for the elderly, because there are some very poignant nursing home scenes in "After Life," too.

Just found "Red Rock" (Amazon Prime). It's a police drama set in Dublin. It centers around 2 long-time feuding families. I'm on episode 4, and I wonder when they will tell us WHAT the feud is about! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q4Eu92RO_0

This show isn't on Netflix or Prime but you can catch it on Peacock: Five Bedrooms
So stinkin' funny - I read somewhere it's like Friends but for 30 to 40 year olds.

I finished Sweet Magnolias on Netflix last night. Sweet show.
I'm watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix but it wouldn't load last night.
My mom and I watched Marcella and really enjoyed it. Also on Netflix.
Loved The Umbrella Academy.
Started Cursed but I guess I don't really like it as I haven't gone back to it.

1. Sherlock ( BBC and Netflix ) So good! I can't believe it took me this long to start watching. The 2 stars are just fantastic together! and Benedict Cumberbatch (sp?) is SO good in this role, but there is something about his face that bothers me a bit. I'm only on the second epi, and Sherlock and Watson are making me giggle because they're already acting like an old married couple. Also, I LOVE all the cinematography of London! DH & I hope to go there someday! 2. Unorthodox (Netflix) Interesting (true) story of a woman who leaves her very strict Hasidic Jewish life. It left me wanting to know more, so I will read the book. 3. DH and I have been watching a lot of series about UFOs on Netflix, Prime, and History Channel. He's always loved these shows, but I wasn't very interested. But after watching so many, I am completely fascinated! 4. Selling Sunset (Netflix) A completely cheesy "reality" show about glamorous realtors in Los Angeles. There's one gal who wears the most RIDICULOUS couture outfits and dangerously high heels to show properties...there are times she can barely walk up or down stairs....I can't imagine she ACTUALLY dresses like that for work?

I checked and it's only on "Peacock", which we don't have. BUT, it looks like you can watch full epis online. I watched a trailer, and it looks really good For my fellow "Offspring" fans, the actress who played Nina's sister (Billie ?) is in this.

We finished World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji on Prime. We both loved watching it for the unbelievable challenges they had to overcome and the back stories on some of the teams.
We are almost on Season 3 of Victoria and are loving it. Also on Prime.
We just fished episode 3 of Away with Hillary Swank about a 3-year long voyage to Mars. Riveting!! On Netflix.
ETA: We've also been watching Selling the Big Easy on HGTV. It's a new show about selling high end houses in New Orleans and the agent is a hoot.

We just watched the Devil All The Time movie on Netflix. Great all-Star cast headed by Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. Takes place in the 50's and 60's. Love the music they used.

Lucy Liu and Ginnifer Goodwin are particularly good and the attention to detail with fashion and decor in each time period is very well done. Great storylines and the final episode is great. Season 2 is planned but who knows when

"River " (Amazon Prime) TL/DR: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBXRaQkleM4This is another GEM from England !!! Bonus points that it co-stars Nicola Walker, who I've seen in so many good things the past several months ! I also LOVE her work partner, (played by Stellan Skarsgard); he is suchhh a fascinating character! I couldn't articulate WHY I love it so much, but this review from "The Guardian" explains exactly how I feel. It's the depth of the relationshipssss!
It explores the depths of grief, loneliness, and other difficult emotions that I haven't seen done this well in other series. I'm in deep grief over losing our sweet doggie back in June, so it was a little hard to watch some of the character's grieving. On a cinematography note: I LOVE all the views of London---many I haven't seen before, and I've watched a LOT of series and movies with amaaazing London footage. (DH and I HOPE to go someday!!!!) Excellent Trailer : www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBXRaQkleM4Cut and pasted from "The Guardian" From the moment Stellan Skarsgård’s lovely, creased face appeared on screen next to a grinning Nicola Walker, I knew I’d get on with River. Abi Morgan’s shrewd, charming and sometimes trippy detective series, set in the built-up concrete jungle of east London, did something genuinely new. Fifteen minutes into episode one, we learned that Walker’s character, DS Jackie “Stevie” Stevenson, was already dead, having been gunned down by person unknown in front of her colleague. Yes, DI John River is a maverick detective, but not the hard-drinking loner we’re used to. He sees dead people (or “manifests”, as he calls them) and uses his empathy and acute sense of alienation to help in solving cases. It isn’t a supernatural twist, but an emotional one. During River’s six-episode search for Stevie’s killer, Morgan takes us on a sometimes harrowing, always truthful, journey through grief, guilt, friendship and love. Every character in this drama has depth, truth and a teetering pile of emotional luggage. Rather than focusing just on the procedure or the home lives of the cops, Morgan has found a third layer, somewhere between the two, which allows for an element of puzzle-solving while a tide of emotion pulls you along through six intense hours of what almost feels like therapy. The casting of Skarsgård obviously lends the show a Scandi air. River’s east London is blue-grey steel and concrete; modern buildings reaching up into the night sky, and hardly any green. That moment in episode one, where he sits high in the branches of a vast tree, is very striking in contrast – and consolidates River as an elemental figure who dreams of the lakes and forests of home. Although it was Skarsgård and Walker’s show, and I lived for their every appearance on screen together, there is brilliant support too from Adeel Akhtar (my comment: AGREED !!!! ) and Lesley Manville as DS Ira King and DCI Chrissie Read respectively. Her difficult home life, mentioned in passing during early episodes, turned out to be significant in solving Stevie’s murder. But she was fully flesh and blood – flawed, over-stretched, nuanced – rather than just the hard-nosed lady cop of other similar dramas. Akhtar’s hangdog sidekick provided the perfect foil for Skarsgård, particularly midway through the series when River felt the Stevie he knew slipping away from him, Ira gently moved into that role, offering him understanding and someone to talk to. Not a single relationship in the show lacked detail and complexity. It felt so incredibly human and grounded despite the high drama of River’s run-ins with the manifests, particularly Thomas Cream, the Lambeth Poisoner, played with such menace and relish by Eddie Marsan. If Marsan is on your cast list as an occasional cameo, you’re doing something right. Chrissie (Lesley Manville). This show worked because it was written so beautifully. For me, Morgan’s dialogue almost always hits its mark when it comes to the truth of the feelings behind the action. I believe everything she says through her characters and those actors sold every word. Stevie’s story is over, but I do hope River isn’t quite done yet. Although I’ll always mourn what could have been had Walker’s character been allowed a miraculous resurrection, I would love to see a series featuring the Akhtar-and-Skarsgård partnership. I usually prefer a finished story to stay exactly that, but when it comes to River, to quote one of the 70s floor-fillers so loved by Stevie, I never can say goodbye. © 2020 Guardian News & Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
