I am so incredibly late to the game, but I am really enjoying Schitt’s Creek, I watched 3-4 episodes a couple of years ago and thought it wasn’t for me. Started it again 10 days or 2 weeks ago and am over halfway through S2. I love each and every character and cannot pick a favorite. Do you/did you have one? We've watched 4 or 5 episodes and are still on the fence. I don't know if DH will ever get there. Our favorite character is Stevie, the front desk clerk at the motel. The actress is almost 40!

If you want to watch some (good) depressing Russian drama, you have to check out To The Lake, on Netflix. It's a series from 2019 about a viral outbreak and the parallels to Covid 19 are insane. It's winter and cold and very creepy and kind of cozy (not really). Lots of stereotypes. Yes it's subtitles but about 95% of the shows we watch are with subtitles.

I just discovered another BBC gem on Amazon Prime called "New Tricks"www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjFXq9Uw1-E
It has TWELVE seasons (that should help us get through this pandemic/ quarantine winter !!!!) It's about a group of retired detectives that are trying to solve older, unsolved crimes. Lots of jokes about aging, etc.

I was the same way, and MANY people I've talked to agree that you have to give it quite a few episodes before you realize you kinda love it. I discovered it maybe 2 years ago, watched 3 or 4 epis, and gave up. After quite a while, I decided to give it another chance; I'm so glad I did. I only watched the last season recently, and now I'm very bummed it's over.

We just finished watching an Australian 6-part show called Stateless. It follows the stories of people trying to enter the country as refugees and the detention facility that they are sent to. Based on a true story, it is quite eye-opening and depressing.

1. I found a new series Deadwater Fell ( found it on Acorn via Amazon Prime) starring my "boyfriend" David Tennant. It was sooo good; I only wish it had more epis. It's the first show I've ever watched that was filmed in Scotland, and I enjoyed some of the gorgeous scenery, too. Another recommendation for this one..... I just watched it this week. LOVED it! And I agree with you, the only problem was that it was only four episodes. I don't usually need subtitles for UK / Irish / Scottish shows, but there were a couple of things that I had to rewind several times to hear what was said. First one: When Tom asked Kate if she orgasmed when they had sex, and Kate said no, that she was tired. Tom then whispered to her "Jess did when I fucked her." And the other one, that I could not hear properly no matter how many times I rewound it, so I still don't know what he said: When Tom was released from jail and he walked into his mum's house, hugged her and whispered something in her ear, and she just stood there looking terrified.

Another awesome British mystery! "Mrs. Miller" (PBS and Amazon Prime)
I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say a woman married to a former spy during WW 2 finds out some verrrrrrry interesting info about him.

AussieMeg ....oooh, I just read your spoilers, and I'd forgotten that my "boyfriend" said that to Kate! OUCH! I watched it back in June, so I'd forgotten most of the story. The second thing you mentioned, I wish I could remember. I probably rewound it a million times, too. I often pause to write down British, Australian, Irish, and Scottish words or expressions to google either right then or later. OR, I figure out what they mean by the context. Example---on "New Tricks", I loved how they called a work party a "corporate jolly", and they also referred to a party as a "knee's up".

After seeing this recommended many many times, I finally caved and started the Gilmore Girls a couple months back. I only knew it was about a single mom and daughter in an east coast town-literally nothing else. Obviously I enjoyed it enough to watch 154 episodes ( had it on while scrapping), but am I going to get my 2 peas card revoked by saying I really didn’t like Loralei and Rory?🤷🏻♀️ Rory was just too perfect, didn’t have a strong backbone and just seemed so sheltered and spoiled. And Loralei was as narcissistic as her mother in so many ways. The two of them together were mean girls, talking behind people’s back and very clique-ish. And for people who talked so damn much, they weren’t that great at communicating with other people. I’m glad I watched it, I felt that I was missing out on some pop culture references, but not sure I understand the adoration. (Ducking to get out of the rotten tomatoes being thrown my way)😂

We just finished Ratched on Netflix. It is based on the character Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. The bad news is there is going to be a season two at some point in time. (I hate waiting for the next season)
Not really sure what I think of it yet, but I’d keep watching if more episodes were available. DH really liked it.

I didn’t really like either Loralei or Rory much at all. I did not watch the reboot episodes, since they had terrible reviews and I was already sick of watching. I swear that final season I hate-watched every episode. 😂

Has anyone watched The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix? I know this thread is supposed to be about our favorite shows, but this one wasn’t a favorite. It was intriguing and it was interesting enough to keep my attention, but there were a couple of really slow moving episodes. The Haunting of Hill House was a LOT better.

Has anyone started Emily in Paris on Netflix? Curious what your thoughts are. I don’t think it’s meant to appeal to my demographic, but of my son’s friends stars in it, so I suppose I ought to sit down and start watching it at some point. I watched it over a couple of days this week and I really liked it! Cute with some funny moments and they definitely made a joke of the stereotypical behavior of the characters...I guess some could find it offensive in that way but they were lighthearted jabs IMO and they didn’t single out any one group. So I don’t think the French can be angry about it. 🤣 DH has actually never watched Breaking Bad and I finally convinced him to start it last night so I’m looking forward to re-watching it with him!

I’m into S3 and am sad to know it’ll end after S6. I sure hope the end of the series is really satisfying!

I binged Emily in Paris in a couple days. I thought Lily Collins was just adorable. I am not the target audience, but I like Darren Starr shows so I knew it would be a fun binge. I also loved the on location shots. I thought Emily in Paris was a cute, lighthearted show! I'd watch a second season! Agree - this was a fun surprise. I watched it in 2 days, and would love another season.

Found yet another AWESOME British detective series !!! "Luther" (Prime, BBC). trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRcizKbrsws
I love that the main character has some personal demons; and comes close to getting fired quite often, yet he is a brilliant detective !!! There are also side stories that keep it VERY interesting! (For fans of the PBS series "Mrs. Wilson", that actress is in this show, and she plays a psychopath very, VERY well !) ** I love murder series, but there are MANY times I have to look away / fast forward with this show! They overdo the gore jussssst a bit too much sometimes, imho.

Saw this write up and thought of this thread, www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54375344First few lines of the article The young British stars of Irish road movie Pixie tell BBC News why their anarchic crime comedy could be just the tonic in these uncertain times. Given the current restrictions governing how we work, travel and go about our daily lives, the idea of taking an impromptu, free-wheeling road trip feels like an impossibly fanciful pipe dream. For those to whom the notion appeals, though, there's Pixie: a riotous road movie in which three young people make just such a journey down the west coast of Ireland. Admittedly, this particular road trip comes with a dead body in the trunk, a cache of stolen drugs and a deadly rendezvous with some gun-toting nuns at the end of it. Even so, Barnaby Thompson's darkly comic caper - conceived and written by his son Preston - enables audiences to vicariously visit a world blissfully free of coronavirus.

We are currently watching The Food that Built America on Amazon Prime. It wasn't included with the free content so I did pay for the season (about $7) but it has been worth it. If you have Hulu premium subscription, it is included free there. The show covers the history of name brand foods in America from post-Civil War and how they came to be invented.
