Has anyone watched Sara Cooper's Netflix special? It was released yesterday. She's the one who hit IG fame in the spring/summer for her parodies of trump's speeches. I can't believe she's gone from nearly no followers and doing comedy as side gig to a Netflix comedy special in less than 6 months. BRAVO to her! I haven't seen it yet, if you have, what did you think?

We watched it last night, and I wanted to watch the entire series after that. DH had a 9pm meeting, so was voted down. Can't wait to watch more tonight. We just watched eps 1 & 2 tonight. Wow. We both love it. Can’t wait to watch more.

I watched Rebecca on Netflix last night. I wanted to like it more than I did because of the actors in it. It was just ok. Agree. We just finished and it was a let-down of an ending.

Admittedly, this particular road trip comes with a dead body in the trunk, a cache of stolen drugs and a deadly rendezvous with some gun-toting nuns at the end of it. Gun toting nuns and a deadly rendezvous sounds really good! Thanks for the reco! p.s...the part where they mention the fun of seeing a pre-Covid road trip. I'm finding that I think of Covid in almost everything I / we watch! Especially scenes with restaurants and crowds in general. Isn't it WEIRD that for 8 months, the thought of one of the simplest joys in life---sitting in a restaurant----is something we know could be deadly? We are currently watching The Food that Built America on Amazon Prime. It wasn't included with the free content so I did pay for the season (about $7) but it has been worth it. If you have Hulu premium subscription, it is included free there. The show covers the history of name brand foods in America from post-Civil War and how they came to be invented. This sounds really good....thanks for the reco! I LOVE my British murder series, but I need fun, light things sometimes! I love shows like this, especially seeing video, commercials, and photos of earlier times...especially the 50s, 60s, and 70s! I'm sure this series will bring back lots of fun memories, too. Isn't it amazing we can STILL sing the songs from commercials from our childhoods? ...."ohhh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weinerrrrrr....." etc. etc.

We just enjoyed an interesting documentary "The Soul Of America" (HBO) with journalist Jon Meecham. It's so cool, because he never actually says anything negative about Trump---but the things he DOES say let you know what he thinks of him. Ugh, I learned things about our country's history that I never knew.....such as, a Nazi rally HERE IN THE U.S. in the 1930s.

I am 8 seasons late to this, but I just discovered Arrow on Netflix. It’s based on the DC comics. DH watches The Flash, and there was a crossover episode, so I decided to check out Arrow, and I really like it.

I kept waiting for it to get funny, but it really just didn't. So many lost opportunities. So many "jokes" that felt unfinished. So many instances where it was simply boring. Yes, it gives a rundown of sorts on 2020, but man.....it really missed the mark. I feel really badly for her.

We're not the only ones: www.wired.com/story/the-queens-gambit-netflix-chess-addiction/Why The Queen’s Gambit Is the No. 1 Netflix Show Right Now The new miniseries, based on the book by Walter Tevis, revels in the joy of watching someone else play a game beautifully—and our obsession with genius. It was done so well and it’s so stylish. They could not have found a better actress to play her. Her face is mesmerizing!

Netflix - I am a documentary lover so this week I've watched the Garth Brooks one (really enjoyed!), Betty White and Dolly Parton. Love how private Dolly is/was about her husband.
Anyone have other documentary recommendations?

I finished The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. What a well done show w/outstanding acting. I love her costumes, as well. And Tony Shaloub...need I say more?
I just got caught up on Ozark. It's so good. Really dark, but good. Season 2 made season 1 look like a trip to Disneyland.
I'm going to start Gilmore Girls. I found out that the creator is Amy Pallidino who does Mrs. Maisel.

I just discovered another BBC gem on Amazon Prime called "New Tricks"www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjFXq9Uw1-E
It has TWELVE seasons (that should help us get through this pandemic/ quarantine winter !!!!) It's about a group of retired detectives that are trying to solve older, unsolved crimes. Lots of jokes about aging, etc. THANK YOU so much for posting about this show. We were less than 5 minutes into it and I was like no way will I enjoy this, but OMG we are LOVING it! First, we have been really loving all the British Detective shows and most recently blew through Line of Duty, which was awesome. We were wanting a new one and this one has the perfect mix of serious and laugh out loud funny for us! We feel it's very smartly written and love all the actors.

It looks really good. I love British Detective stories. Have you seen Scott and Bailey? My family loved that one. We binged right through it. Since you are over David - Can I have him now, please ? 😊 I first saw Idris Elba as Stringer Bell in The Wire. He's a mesmerizing actor. Luther was a great show.

I watched Grand Army on Netflix and really got drawn in. It's a very raw look at an urban (NYC) high school. Many relevant social issues are addressed. I hope they do a second season... I want to see where they go with these kids.

I’m so excited - I just got Prime again. During March to August, I hardly ever left my house. And, I was going amazon crazy during it. I had to put a stop to it. Box after box after box. Then, I just waited til my total was $ 25. Now I’ve gotten it to watch all these great shows that you all have recommended. Oh and Christmas. Mrs Wilson up first before it goes away. My motivation to order it now. 😊😊😊

The Trial of the Chicago 7 - well done, spectacular cast OMFG what a movie! Just riveting. And what a sad country we are when we don't live up to our ideals. The government and the judge and the police in the movie remind me of so much of what we're seeing today. Peas who love history (albeit not a documentary), check it out. Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella And Sorkin's writing

I wasn't sure at first, either, but once you see the characters' banter and FUNNY jokes about aging--plus, their crime solving is sooo cool !!! ---------------------------------------- We're loving "Queen's Gambit" (Netflix) FINALLY! A series my DH likes, too! I'm also completely hooked on " Great British Baking Show" now. I always enjoyed it, but fast forwarded a lot just to see what they made. I also hate the tension of seeing who gets eliminated each week, plus, I feel sorry for them, so I skipped that, too. I realized that ff'ing through all the baking meant I missed a lot of very fun banter and joking around, AND, I now watch the process because it teaches a LOT about baking! Now I want to try making all kinds of new things that I hadn't heard of before this show. Wow, these people are so talented!

DH had forgotten that Sasha Baron Cohen is actually a very good SERIOUS actor in some roles. He starred in a fantastic movie (or series?) based on a true story about a spy back in the 1950's or so. I can't remember what it was called, but it was excellent. Before that role, I'd only seen him play Borat and Ali G.

We’ve been watching The Barrier on Netflix the last few nights. It’s a Spanish production, a sci-fi about the near future in Spain and it’s strangely appropriate to be watching this now on so many levels, norovirus and authoritarian government included at no extra cost to the viewer. 🙄 I actually had a nightmare about it last night. The DH tells me I was talking so loudly.

My British murder mysteries have been put on the "back burner" (pardon the pun), and I've been bingeing COOKING SHOWS!!!! In just a few epis of James Martin's " Home Comforts" ( BBC / Amazon) I have learned many amaaaazing tips that will be so helpful when I cook and bake! Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuCttmhWGaUIf you enjoy the history of cooking, James Martin sometimes has guests that follow recipes from hundreds of years ago, and they even have the actual cook books from those years! One guy owns some of the original cookware and an oven from back then...absolutely amazing !!! There's one epi where he makes ice cream in a machine that is from the 1800's (I think)....wow !!!!!!!!
I also love the series where every video is about five minutes---very fast--yet, you still learn great new recipes, AND a lot about cooking and baking techniques. Tasty One Pot Chef etc. etc.

I always love it when DH will watch a series with me, since he doesn't enjoy the British murder mysteries like I do. We loved "Queen's Gambit" (Netflix) "Away" (Netflix) And if I can FINALLY pull DH away from the news for a couple hours, we're going to watch "Chicago Seven" (Netflix) ( I can't wait to see Sasha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman. DH had no idea that he is actually a very talented actor and can do a lot more than the zany characters like Borat, Allie G, etc. DH forgot that he starred in a very interesting, real-life story of a spy in the 1950's) And, I don't know the name of it, but Prime has a series about the founder of Fox News. I think his name is Roger Ailes? Russell Crowe looks SOO different in this role---the amazing makeup and padding totallllllly transformed his appearance!

We watched Molly's Game on Netflix last night. Based on a true story of a ski champion who ran high stakes poker games. Written by Aaron Sorkin, it was entertaining and an interesting insight into the world of the wealthy.
Also adding another vote for the Queen's Gambit. It's a good one!
