I miss being able to have family game night with my sisters and their children (late teen/college age kids) and was trying to figure out some way to do it online. Hearing a lot about Zoom conferencing and thought that could work, but am stuck as to what games we could do. Any ideas? Just looking to keep everyone connected and have some laughs.

The first game that came to mind is Welcome to (Your Perfect Home) because you can play with as many players as you want, and the only pieces are one pre-printed sheet of paper per person (which you could laminate and use over and over) and a deck of cards that get flipped over once per turn for everyone to see (so everyone wouldn't need their own deck). It's not really interactive though, everyone does their own thing on their own board.
Any of those party games where you yell out answers (Outburst, Scattergories, Pictionary...) might work too.

I haven’t played yet, but my friend is organizing a game night with Jackbox.tv. It looks like you have to purchase games. Very interested to play and see how it goes.

My dh’s employer had them all playing online trivia with crowdpurr.com. I believe it’s free for 20 or fewer. They played it with 250 employees.

I'll bet boardgamegeek.com has great suggestions.

Just FYI: Unless you have a paid account, Zoom limits free meetings to 40 or 45 min.
My game night is playing Fiasco today. Never played it. We usually do hardcore board games but are trying to work with the limitations.
I can imagine Codenames could be possible with some workarounds. But cooperative games will likely be best. We are considering doing Pandemic at some point since it's available in a digital app version — the owner can just do a screenshare.

There is a site called STEAM which is free to join and has a lot of board games that can be played online with others. Many of them are free, though not all. I haven’t used it in awhile but you can define a group and invite them for a game, or you can play with whoever joins.

We had a game night this past weekend via Google Hangout with DS and DD and their SOs. We are in three different locations. Jackbox has different game packs that you can buy and play on your phone viewing the game on your laptop. The person that buys the game casts the game to their screen on Google Hangout and everyone else can see and hear each other. Unlike Zoom, theres no time limit on Google Hangout.

Just wanted to pop back on this thread to share that I found an app. It’s called Houseparty. Games are limited, but they have trivia, heads up and a drawing one. Not sure what the max number is.

Jack box TV has some fun games. We played last night. DH really didn't want to play, yet ended up winning. LOL.

I upgraded my Zoom account to the Pro level which allows me to go over 40 minutes. There are other levels to choose from as well. Itʻs only $14.99/mo. for the Pro level if you are paying month-to-month. I thought it was well worth it. I too, am looking for some other games to play. I have played Sparked with a woman who hosts these games in person usually. She has adapted the game for online play by holding the spinner and spinning for everyone else. Then, she pulls the appropriate card and reads the question for the person to answer. This is a women-only group game and is meant for those who love those sort of "deep talks" with other women.

My daughter and I played Boggle with her two best friends and their moms over FaceTime. We had the Boggle game on our screen. We could all read the words we found and cross off our lists, etc. It worked well and I felt like we hadn’t laughed that much in a while.

Did you use a real boggle game or a digital? my dd and I have been playing upwords but we are in the same house. I think my mom would enjoy playing a game with us from her house.

It was the real Boggle game. So instead of our faces, the other players saw the letters on our game. Not perfect, but others could hear our voices and it was still fun.

Zoom is waiving the time limit for now. I was on with friends the other day and at about 35 mins a pop up announced that the limit was being waived for the time being. That was nice.
Friend said she had gotten the same message in several other chats she'd had a on Zoom, as well.
