I’m starting a new thread a little early but I want this to be front and center down the road. trump wants to “reopen the country” by Easter. The public reason “because people want to go back to work”. And in his own words “ Our people want to return to work. They will practice Social Distancing and all else, and Seniors will be watched over protectively & lovingly. We can do two things together. THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE (by far) THAN THE PROBLEM! Congress MUST ACT NOW. We will come back strong! But then trump let the real reason he wants to reopen the country. A bad economy could hurt his chances to be re-elected. But then I pondered it some more and thought he’s up to something and Max Boot in the Washington Post put into writing what I was thinking.. Washington Post Column link“This is the most dangerous thing Trump has done yet”
From the article.. ”To urge people to go back to school and work by mid-April, as Trump wants to do, would be to risk not only a human tragedy but an economic one as well. The economy cannot function while the medical system is overwhelmed. In fact, it’s highly doubtful that most governors will lift their shutdown orders or that most people will be willing to return to crowded workplaces, restaurants or theaters while the health risk is so high. As Bill Gates said, “It’s very tough to say to people, ‘Hey, keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, ignore that pile of bodies over in the corner.’” But Trump doesn’t care. He is doing what he does best: shifting the blame. As he said: “I don’t take responsibility at all.” By calling for the economy to reopen, Trump will put the onus on governors, mayors and CEO’s to keep it shut. That way he can seek reelection by saying the recession isn’t his fault.” ”But in the process Trump will risk the lives not just of those credulous enough to believe his pronouncements — such as the Phoenix man who died after taking chloroquine phosphate, which Trump has touted as a miracle cure for the coronavirus — but of the whole population. It will be much harder to enforce even statewide lockdowns if the president is saying it’s safe to go back to work. Perhaps there has been a more irresponsible presidential decision in U.S. history, but I’m not sure what it is.” It did occur to me that Gavin Newsom would keep CA closed if trump declared all was safe on Easter. And other states would as well. And then it would be all their fault the economy tanked and not trumps. Political ads touting this would be released in mass. But what I didn’t consider was Boot’s last paragraph. And I think he’s right. On Rachel’s show last night she talked about a governor in one of the Southern States who has declared that state open for business and no city or county in that state can impose a mandatory shelter in place or all non essential businesses close or schools be closed without his approval. If trump says ok the country is open for business you know there will be some stupid governors that will shake their head in agreement with trump. So I’m starting a new catch all thread a little early so this article will still be around several weeks down the road to see if & when trump starts blaming the governors for the economic downturn if the country doesn’t reopen when trump wants on Easter Sunday.

”Gov. Inslee clashed with Trump during a call with governors, pleading with him to take more dramatic action to secure medical supplies. After Trump said he was ready to be the "backup" for states, Inslee said, "We don't need a backup. We need a Tom Brady."
This is what dimwit donnie does not get. There is a time for states rights and to let the states set their own guidelines and then there is a time for the Feds to muscle in and set the guidelines for all states in interest of keeping the American People safe.

From today’s coronavirus briefing..
Daniel Dale..
”Trump says he talked to G20 leaders about "the problem," and "hopefully" it won't be a problem for too much longer. He says there is a "tremendous spirit" among G20 countries, "tremendous spirit to get this over with."
”Spirit” ain’t going to get it done. Tremendous or otherwise.

You're absolutely right about him wanting to pass the blame to others, preferably Democrats. And in Texas, our Republican governor is taking his cue from that and leaving the decision to close things up to the most Democratic mayors and county judges of the largest cities and counties rather than issuing a statewide shutdown.

”Trump says his meeting with governors was very positive. One governor was "a little wise guy, a little bit," he says, but that governor is "usually a big wiseguy."
I think, based on the Tom Brady quote” the idiot is talking about Gov. Inslee.

He says he's going to go see it off from Virginia: "I'll kiss it goodbye," he says. "There's something very beautiful about it," he says of the ship.”

This is so very painful to watch right now. We are back to talking about trade deficits with China. Using the same incorrect figures that he has been using for years. And, the question was about lessening the rhetoric against China regarding the novel coronavirus.

”Trump repeats his usual false claim that China had never before paid "10 cents" in tariffs - Americans pay the tariffs; Americans had long paid billions per year in tariffs on China - then bashes "Sleepy Joe Biden," then does his usual false claim of a $500B deficit with China.”
I read somewhere that since trump can’t have his rallies, these briefings are a substitute and they may be correct.

”Trump says he just spoke to two people who "had it, absolutely had it," but never went to a doctor, so you have to add people like that to the mortality rate denominator, "and the people that actually die" is "a much lower percentage" than he'd ever thought.”
A thousand people that die are a thousand people that have died. Doesn’t matter what the % is because it doesn’t change the fact that a thousand people have died. And the number is growing.

When he shoved it onto governors last week, I said to my family that this is Trump shifting blame for all shutdowns and spending to governors and locals. A lot of these areas are blue. And he will take credit for saving the economy in spite of the governors’ mishandling.

"Perhaps there has been a more irresponsible presidential decision in U.S. history, but I’m not sure what it is.” I read this sentence as "Perhaps there has been a more irresponsible president in U.S. History, but I'm not sure what it is." I was so busy mentally correcting the grammar I had to go read it again. It took me three or four readings until I actually realized what he said.

”The Trump campaign told TV stations they could lose their licenses for airing an ad criticizing the president’s actions in the coronavirus crisis”
Isn’t that a threat?
It’s really interesting. The trump campaign doesn’t like an ad criticizing trump’s handling of the pandemic. The assumption is in times of crisis one shouldn’t criticize the leader of the country. But yet that leader is free to criticize various governors, who are doing their job in trying to protect the citizens of their state. A better job than trump.
This is just how screwed up everything has become because of the stupidity of those who voted in a person who clearly wasn’t capable of doing the job. Not even a little bit. And we are all paying the price for this stupidity.
