Learn from my pain. We are getting our home ready to list for sale. I am going through my piles of fabric and yarn. My husband gets a gold medal for not blaming or guilting me. He’s keeping me on task without shaming me. Bless him.
Seriously, learn from my pain. Just go through it and toss half.

Unfinished objects. This is freeing. You're decluttering your fantasy self. Now you'll have room for your real true self. Good job.

Add the sewing notions, fabric I have accumulated and the yarn that acts like kudzu, reaching out to entangle everything near it. It’s alive, alive!! DH wants to paint the basement Starting Friday. The realtor is coming next week. I don’t even know if we’ll be able to sell with this crazy COVID. My adult kids who have moved out left us with their crap. Dd has four huge boxes in my storage room, four formal dresses, and other junk. DS left a desk, clothes, miscellaneous stuff. No where is open to take donations and we shouldn’t have a garage sale, either. The trash pickup is tomorrow and I may need to rush out with beers for them so they will take everything.

Good luck! It really does lift a weight off your shoulders when you get rid of projects you’re keeping because you think you should finish them, not because you actually want to finish them. For me at least, it’s much harder to come to terms with letting go of projects you want to finish, but can’t for whatever reason.

It made my really angry with myself, seeing so much that I had bought and never used. I really should do it again - 10 years is plenty of time to build a new stash. But not until DH goes back to work - he is currently using my craft space as a home office, and I can't disturb him.

I feel guilty tossing away half knitted baby afghans and unfinished clothes projects that I started. I am making a promise to myself to finish something before I start something new....we shall see how long that lasts.

You're decluttering your fantasy self. Now you'll have room for your real true self. I love this way of looking at it! I am angry with myself for the waste. I feel guilty tossing away half knitted baby afghans and unfinished clothes projects that I started. I've also been decluttering and purging due to a move. I finally threw away my one and only attempt at a quilt... started well over 25 years ago. I also purged all but a very tiny amount of scrapbooking supplies. I had gone through and reduced by half two years ago and donated all that. Now they are getting the rest of it. It IS a lot of time and money I'm getting rid of, BUT... I'd rather focus on the great joy it brought me *at the time* and not the loss now. It's not longer who I am to paraphrase freebird. It's okay to let it go and make more room for the new me.

I have been working on this now for four years. When me movred, I truly thought I got rid of everything I should. Then I keep finding pockets of WTFIwasthinking and keep weeding. Brought huge piles of supplies to the local school. Was planning on bringing more and then the schools closed.
So along with everyone in my neighborhood, I have been trashing stuff. Makes me sad, but the impetus is that I may have to surrender my craft room to a relative who needs a soft spot to land thanks to losing her job due to the virus. Her not being homeless is > than My unused and unwanted stuff.
