Typical inane, repetitive questions from some journalists though. Smh. Inane is the word! Don’t know how they can ask those questions with a straight face 🙄 Likewise the panel with their responses. Diplomacy at its best.

Gotta say I’ve been pretty impressed with the government at the daily briefings. I guess the journalists have to ask stupid questions but I know I’m not the person who could stand there & not say something rude/true in response!

I’m impressed with the general spread of knowledge among all the politicians who have been briefing. There doesn’t appear to have been any fudging or stumbling. Raab today and Hancock yesterday - you could see them thinking ‘how can I call you an idiot in some other way’ but I think everyone taking the briefings has been very good.

It would be devastating to have a leader pass away from this. At least in my thinking. Your Queen is such a shining example of calm and collected. Even I was encouraged to hear her speak and I'm in Minnesota/US.

That poor man and his family! I hope it has not progressed to the point of being on a ventilator. People need to heed the warnings to isolate and stop thinking they are invincible. Prayers going out for the Prime Minister and all of our lovely British Peas.

On damn, putting him in ICU doesn't sound quite as precautionary. Wishing him and his family his full recovery.

I hope it has not progressed to the point of being on a ventilator. ICU is a high powered environment and even the modern units are relatively crowded and there's a 1:1 nurse to patient ratio. They don't move anyone in there "just in case" to hang out because it's quite distressing for people if they are aware of their surroundings, so the fact that he's there and they've made the announcement makes it highly likely he is currently being ventilated

This doesn’t sound good at all. It saddens me to read about his condition and it’s my sincere hope that he recovers fully.

I’m no fan of Johnson, but it would be awful for his family and the country if he were to pass away from this virus. It’s also concerning that he’s overweight, drinks, and doesn’t seem to lead a particularly healthy lifestyle in general.
Thank goodness the Queen is invincible;)

Oh no! I was so hoping he was getting better. Still holding out hope. Not all outcomes are poor. Hopefully, if he is on the vent, he will come off soon. There are so many scary stories out there, but there are also ones of hope too.

They said he's not being ventilated at the moment yes I read that, I find it hard to believe given the "moved to ICU" announcement If he wasn't at the time of the announcement - then he's definitely sick enough for it to be imminent

Scary stuff indeed. Can’t help thinking that he should have been resting more than running the country lately. At least we know he’s getting great care because the NHS is awesome but it’s a scary situation indeed.

I know that when my mom was in ICU (non-virus related) it was because of a breathing machine she needed to be on—that they did not have them outside of ICU. Maybe it is something like that.

I agree, quite possibly he might have needed a non invasive ventilator. There are two types of ventilators a mechanical one and non invasive ventilator. You can also be admitted to ICU here when you need more constant 1 to 1 monitoring that might not be possible on a busy general ward.

No, people do not get admitted to ICU because the ward is busy and you want to keep a bit of an eye on them. It's a critical care unit and people get admitted there if they are critically ill and therefore too unwell to be managed on a regular ward. That means either cardiac monitoring, blood pressure support (which also requires cardiac monitoring) or heavy sedation for people who need to be kept calm and quiet - like people with significant head injuries etc
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Boris would have already been in a well equipped private room with his own nurse around the clock, a "busy ward" would have no impact on his care what so ever. We know he doesn't have a head injury, wasn't in an accident and (probably) hasn't had a cardiac arrest. So if the doctors have decided to move him to ICU, he's either got signs of sepsis and he needs cardiac monitoring/BP support or it's for sedation and respiratory management. He's not sitting up in bed chatting to the doctors and cracking jokes - he is now seriously unwell and Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, has been deputised as a result.
Of course the reports are going to downplay this for as long as possible, like the "tests" thing yesterday - no-one with any medical knowledge believed that was the only reason, no official statement will be "OMG, he's really sick and might die"...but the reality is he is now in that 5% group that get seriously sick from this.

No, people do not get admitted to ICU because the ward is busy and you want to keep a bit of an eye on them. So you now also an expert on the procedure of UK hospitals - okey dokey if you say so. I can virtually guarantee that he would not be in a well equipped private room with his own nurse. He could very well be is a side one bedded ward but he definitely would not be in a private room. It would go against everything and anything that politicians protect in this country - the NHS. He would never ever put himself in that position and he would never lived it down if he did.

Agreed. My son has just finished a shift in ICU and said Boris is clearly much sicker than they are letting on. I really feel for Carrie.
