I am getting a new computer and need to know what to do to transfer the Silhouette and all the images over. Can I put the images on a thumb drive? Do I move them or copy them to the thumb drive? Any pointers are greatly welcomed!

Are you on the cloud when you look at your library? If so, once you re-install the Silhouette software when you sign in it will download all of your designs from the cloud. If you're not on the cloud or for the designs that came with your machine or designs you saved to your local drive, find out which version you have and follow the instructions here to export your library: www.silhouetteamerica.com/printer-friendly/faq/backing-up-the-library

And don't forget to make sure your re-imported library actually works before you decommission your old computer!

Also, depending on what Silhouette you have, and what computer you buy, you may have a conflict due to a particular Microsoft update. I think those with Apple computers don’t have any issue, but those with PC’s do if your Cameo is the original Cameo. If you have at least a Cameo 2, it’s not a problem. There is supposed to be a fix for the original Cameo problem on the Silhouette website., but by the time I found out, I had already bought the Cameo 3.
I bought my new computer in the fall. And yes, I did have issues, as you can probably guess.
If you have an older version of the software that is not linked to the Cloud, back up everything to an external hard drive before you update your software. If you already have a version of the software that backs things up to the Cloud, you may still lose your personal files when you make the change, and support may or may not be able to get them back. I learned this the hard way.
Make sure you back up all personal files, including adaptations of Silhouette Design Store files you may want to keep, but back them up to the external hard drive. Make sure all Design Store files that you have purchased are backed up to the Cloud in their proper folders.
It was my personal files that I lost, along with ones from the Design Store that I had adapted. I was very upset that I hadn’t backed everything up first. I had some backed up on my hard drive, but I had missed some. The ones that I lost were stored only in my Silhouette software.
