Next week daycares around the country will open up again, and the week after that year 1-4 plus high school will start up. Travel bans will cease at the end of the month. Businesses that have been closed will start up again next week as well. Social gatherings of more than 5 people will still be prohibited, but outdoor sports will also start next week (but they will need to adhere to rules about desinfecting equipment and social distancing). Life is sloooowly going back to normal.

In Toronto, Ontario, Caribana, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival has been canceled for this year. This event is on the first weekend in August with events leading up to the parade in July and continues into August, after the parade.

That seems very premature to me - unless there is a deliberate plan to slowly expose everyone to the virus and manage the situation that way. Not being snarky - that is a legitimate plan that other leaders have considered (Boris...although I'm betting he's changed his mind about that now) The minute restrictions are relaxed the numbers will go up again.

I’m just going by what Dr Fauci says and according to him we may be able to reopen schools in autumn. Basing it on that, I’m guessing we have many more months of isolation to come. He did not say we would have eradicated this virus by then; what he said was that we would “have this under control enough…” As far as going back to “normal” again, I’m guessing the path to that will be incremental, very much touch-and-go, and will vary greatly on locality. For example, I cannot quite see NY going back to normal in one fell swoop.

DH and I were just talking about this a few nights ago.
My concern is that (hypothetically) there will be some 28yr old that thinks he has a cold.
They are going to call the all clear, people are going to be rushing out to start living life normally again.
The 28 year old is going to start resuming life as normal. Only he doesn't have a cold, he has C19. Then he is passing it around again, unknowingly. And we start all over again from square 1.

A year........why? Because they, the medical officials do not know how this is going to react in the various seasons. There is no vaccine. Once they begin to make one how fast can this be done? How much can they make at a time? That will be a rush to get that.
This is a mess......the medical people are heroes. The current President.....I have no words, lots of thoughts, but no words.

I have heard of a gradual exposure programme but I can’t remember that it was Boris specifically. I guess that could have merit - assuming we do develop antibodies. I glanced a report yesterday that some people in Wuhan have contracted C19 for a second time but not sure of the validity of that.

I'm not sure that we'll ever be able to go out again without being prepared to wipe down every shopping cart, using hand sanitizer all the time, etc. One good thing to come of this is that we know we should have been doing a lot of this all along.
Businesses will have to start opening. My guess is that areas of the country that haven't been hit really hard will start to open in late May. NYC will obviously be longer, but there is a point where more people will die from not working and having an income than will die from getting the virus. People will become homeless which will just add to the homeless problem in places like CA. We simply cannot support 6million+ people on unemployment for a long period of time, not to mention the money going to businesses. Businesses can't go 3 months or more without income before they will start to close permanently, resulting in even more long-term unemployment. Locally, we've had a movie theater and a deli that both were struggling before the virus announce that they are closing permanently because they can't recover from this closure. I know there will be a lot more announcing the same thing in the coming months.
As people who have had the virus recover, there really should be no reason why they couldn't go back to work if their business is open. As more people get the virus and recover, more people can go back to work. I know locally there has been a lot of talk about golf courses being closed now that it's getting warmer. There really is no reason why they need to be closed as long as the players do social distancing. That would mean those employees could work and the business would have income again. I've seen more people walking on our local trails or at parks than I've seen on the golf courses before this virus. It's not like there are groups of 100 people in close contact on the golf courses. Same with construction. They typically are not working within 6 ft of each other. I have a friend whose husband hangs drywall and he was working on a job where he was the only one working but yet it hadn't been deemed essential so he hasn't been working. There's no reason why he shouldn't be allowed to work at that job if he's the only one working. If he can work, that's one less person being paid unemployment. Things like amusement parks need to be the last to open because they get too many people. My guess is that Disney parks won't be open until sometime next year at the earliest.

For the majority of people with healthy immune systems there’s no need to avoid all and any germs - that’s not a good thing to do imo. Don’t you often read that the people who are afraid of every potential germ are the ones who more often catch whatever’s going around or pick up bugs. rather than those who don’t worry so much (beyond logical things like public toilets)

Michigan's governor just extended our stay-at-home until the end of April. Yep. And while I'm not the least bit surprised I'm ticked about all the stuff she added on. You can no longer buy paint, gardening stuff, landscaping stuff, flooring, etc. We had planned to get mulch this weekend by ordering online, driving up and having them load it....nope. Can't do it. So much for getting any projects done. I just don't understand the logic there.

Our local Hardware store has these things available.
I can understand doing it at larger stores - too many people were browsing and shopping, and in too many cases here, bringing the entire family! Our neighbor works at Menards and he said it's insane the number of people that were coming to just shop/pass time.

Curious why makes you say that? Because of how normal viruses spread and the general lack of cleanliness the public has overall. Yes, this is what I meant. And I agree that it's not good to go overboard (like not using anti-bacterial soap) but I would bet that very few grocery stores ever cleaned their carts. Most places have wipes for customer's to use, but before this I rarely saw a customer use one and I certainly never saw employees cleaning the carts. And I was guilty of not wiping them as often as I should have, but most times when I would go for a wipe they were either empty or dried out. I didn't even have any good hand sanitizer at home. I had no idea they had an expiration date, so all the little Bath & Body Works bottles I've accumulated over the years when I've had coupons were expired. I now know I need to rotate inventory. I think more people will now know it's important to keep emergency supplies of TP, paper towels, wipes, etc. on hand.

In Idaho we haven't even peaked yet. There is already talk about college fall semester being online as well. My daughter is failing chemistry right now online. It was hard enough with the professor available. Now not so much. I doubt she'll enroll for fall if it's online. It's no one's fault, but she's not getting the education we're paying for right now. I feel for her and concur. i am only dealing with a single class. My Achilles heel subject. And I keep reminding myself that there are only a few weeks left. I specifically took this class to have this Prof teaching it in person. Silver lining: I now know not to ever take another online class. Can’t imagine purposefully dealing with this.

Our state Premiers are meeting with the federal government on Tuesday to decide on the next steps, as our original shut down is until April 19. All the signs point to a gradual easing of restrictions; firstly some workplaces and more shops, then possibly schools and childcares, with 'large gatherings' - including sports, concerts and churches - being 'a long way off'. We are expecting that we won't be given fast dates for each step, more that they will be 'when we get to this point, then we can do this'.
In the past few days, we have seen some positive signs - fewer new cases, fewer deaths each day and more people recovering - so it might not be long until the first steps are taken. They are also beginning to do immunity tests in some of the hardest hit regions, in order to see how many people may have been infected already, which will guide them in how soon to lift restrictions.
With new cases and deaths still on an upward trend in the US, I feel it is going to be a while until it is safe to lift restrictions there.
