Grocery shopping at 8am once senior hour is done. First mistake was not realizing tomorrow is Good Friday; apparently I've lost all track of the calendar. There was already a lineup and when I got in it was like a scene from 1917, except instead of dodging bombs I'm dodging people. Grocery store had signs up everywhere but social distancing was just impossible.
Things were pretty well stocked but not always a full selection and some weird things were gone. I got the very last bottle of sriracha and the very last jalapeno. And not a trace of lamb to be found.
At a certain point I lost all track of what I was buying and why, I just grabbed whatever I could find that I didn't have to crawl over someone for. It was a voyage of discovery when I got home to find out what I actually bought. 3 packages of deli meat and easter eggs - why??!! I don't have kids. I don't know why.
So now I'm sitting at home just staring at the wall shell-shocked. I told DH I am not going out in that again. I can't even imagine those poor grocery store personnel.

This made me laugh. Thanks for the reminder that I should avoid the stores this weekend. I am not religious, so I totally forgot about Easter

Oof! I am so glad I went on Tuesday. It wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as that! Hopefully it was just Easter shopping and not how it is all the time in your area!

I had to go into Walmart last weekend as I couldn't get a pickup or delivery spot. It was stressful, hot (because of the mask) and just overall confusing.
I too came home with odd stuff. I swear there was stuff I do NOT remember buying. And somehow I bought TWO big containers of vegetable oil. I only wanted one (and actually a smaller container as I don't use it that much, but that was the size they had). How did I grab two by mistake? Well..I'm set on vegetable oil for quite some time now.

Our stores are closed her on Friday and Sunday for Easter. They always are it's not unique to the pandemic. Anyway DH went this morning and said it was crazy here too. DS works in a grocery store and says most days are way quieter than usual so I think it might just be Easter making everything so busy. You may be happy you got those eggs though chocolate is always a good thing  |

I went this morning too. Last time I went was 11 days ago. It was amazing to see the changes: 11 days ago? Maybe one person in a mask and I remember thinking: "huh, that's extreme." Today? Maybe one person without and I thought "stay the eff away from me, you freak!"
Got pretty much everything I needed - store was stocked well on pretty much everything. Even TP. Next time I venture out I have to take a list. I forgot one thing and there was no way I was going back.

That was me the last time I went over a week ago. They still weren't limited the number and at 7am it was busy. It was Safeway which I am unfamiliar with. I was just grabbing stuff too. I need gluten free pasta for my son and couldn't find it with the pasta. I found a whole gluten free section and grabbed 7 different things w/o reading it. The eggs were limit one but they had one 5 dozen pack of eggs left so I grabbed that w/o thinking and now we are having egg everything. I also grabbed a box donuts apparently becuase they were in my bag when I got home but don't remember getting them. They were tasty.

Hang in there. It gets better. That is how it was here a couple of weeks ago when I went. It took a day to recover emotionally, it was a big day. Now it is nice and organized with a long line to get in but an easy shopping experience with a limited number of people in the store. The line took 37 minutes to get in and by the time I shopped, waited, loaded up, and drove 45 minutes each way it was time to unload, shower, put groceries away and make supper. I didnt mind the line outside because it was beautiful but storms came in fast, bad weather could be worrisome. Stress filled, but calm. I wish inside of Costco was always like that.  |

I went to Walmart this morning to pick up my online order. I drove by about 200 people outside waiting in line. I felt guilty and somewhat privileged to to drive by people (many elderly)waiting with pulling carts brought from home but what do you do? The stock was pretty good. I did get most of the items that I want, just a few substitutions.

We went to Aldi, apart from having to queue to get in it was a pretty normal experience. The shelves were very well stocked (even loo roll), people were shopping calmly and considerately. We got everything we went for.

I'm totally laughing at your post, but I can also sympathize. It is a very surreal experience to shop right now, to be sure.
Last weekend I went to Costco, Target, and to the grocery store. I had SUCH anxiety after those shopping trips, it took me a few days to get over it. And then, just today I got in line (I was FIRST in the line!! I was really patting myself on the back for that...) to go into the store RIGHT after the senior citizens hour, and I was hopeful I could pick up a package of toilet paper. Until the guy said 'we're out of toilet paper' right as he let us in the door. I am always amazed at what is NOT on the shelves, and every time I go, I vow I'm not going back for a long, long time.

I haven't been to Costco in forever. The last time I went, they had no water, no paper products, and no meat/limited meat. Seeing that there was no/limited meat, really freaked me out. They did have a few things here and there, but nothing I would be cooking, like those big racks of ribs. My husband has been there several times since, and has had luck with water and paper products. I go to Safeway, I was there yesterday, and will be good until next week. I was at Trader Joe's last week, and waited in line, and most everyone had masks (I didn't but will be getting some soon). What I did find was that those that had masks had no problem getting close to me, where I would keep my distance and wait until someone was done looking at something, before I reached in. Trader Joe's, for me, is just too small to try to keep the social distancing. I will wait to go back, although I love so much of their stuff.

I went Tuesday morning - it was so orderly and people were so mindful of spacing it was a completely different experience from last time. They let very few people in at a time, the aisles were one-way and, rather than passing, people patiently waited at a distance until the person ahead of them got what they wanted before moving forward. It was just such a friendly and courteous experience.
And I managed to find everything that I needed except parchment paper.

I went to Fresh Thyme yesterday and I just love that place. Everyone had masks on, except those stocking the shelves which was odd, and most shoppers waited while another person went down an aisle for a distance. I did end up with extra stuff because I felt like it I touched it, I had to buy it.

I’m so thankful I can stretch my groceries until early next week. I will definitely have to get out then to get dog food so I’ll just do my shopping too.
I might have had to go out Friday and was dreading it but with left overs & DS giving me a box of matzoh I will make it at least til Monday if not Tuesday morning.
I’m glad our governor is now requiring face covering to be inside a store & a plastic shield for cashiers. That will go some direction toward added safety.

Easter eggs made me laugh.
Grocery shopping is stressful these days to say the least. The last 2 times I went senior shopping I just bought things because they had them, not because I needed them. Spent way, way more money than I should have. Monday when I went they were pretty stocked with the exception of a few things. I have a pick up tonight and bet most will be out of stock - I didn't think about it being the holiday weekend when I placed my order last week.
The senior shoppers mostly had masks and gloves - one man had a huge respirator mask that looked like a gas mask from the army surplus store. I wore a bandanna mask because that is all I had at that time. It made my glasses fog up for the longest time. I wore my raincoat thinking it would be extra protection. Between the mask, gloves and raincoat, I was roasting and a sweaty mess. I actually started shaking a little from the heat and the dollar amount of my bill! I went through self checkout, so that took way longer than it should have. By the time I got to the car to load up, my knees were actually buckling a bit. Thought I was going to pass out right there i the Kroger parking lot. I kept thinking of all the germs and my fashionable safety gear was for nothing.
Glad you made it through it. Enjoy those Easter eggs and sandwhiches!

One of my coworkers recently had a panic attack at the grocery store. I think grocery stores are so ubiquitous and we are used to living in abundance. It really smacks you in the face to see a familiar place look different with people fearful of eachother and empty shelves.

My mask made my glasses steam up so I could not see a thing! I tried to buy things for recipes but would get stumped when I could not find what I needed. I grabbed the last two bags of cubed stuffing, was grateful for that because that is my families favorite for Easter. The only pasta in the entire store was angel hair! I am not going back out for at least a week or more. Some people acted like there was no issue and got right next to me. Ugh WTH I did TRY to get a grocery pickup time but they were all booked in my area. Even tried other Counties. |

I feel you. I have been putting off going. Last time I went to the biggest store in my area, right when they opened. It was OK, but in the aisles, you can't be more than 6' away if someone is coming toward you or if an employee is stocking an item.
I find it kind of ridiculous to make a shopping list these days, because it can be a crapshoot as to what's there. I am hoping that tomorrow will be emptier with people celebrating the holidays. Some of our stores will be open.
I also like to get some things to donate, but worry that I will be judged by strangers if they see 4 jars of PB or 5 boxes of pasta in my cart. I try to get a couple of things every time to put in our "Take What You Need, Leave What You Can" boxes around town.

Don't even think about going out on Saturday. Since the grocery stores are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the Saturday inbetween is always a mess. Monday will be bad as well, because, the grocery store was closed on Sunday.  So glad that Ontario upheld the law for the closure on Friday and Sunday. The grocery store people will have 2 days to rest from all the hard work that they have done these past few weeks of crazy. |

I went to Costco yesterday around 5. I fully expected to have to wait outside to wait my turn. Nope, there was hardly anyone there. It was pretty well stocked, no TP though, I checked just to see since I don’t need any. No line. Picked up a pizza to go for dinner.
Went to Winco on Tuesday morning right after senior hours. Again expecting more people. Not very many people, picked up by the time I left though. They didn’t have as much meat, but they had some. Chicken was well stocked again. Eggs were limited with a sign saying there is a shortage on eggs and explained the limit and price increase. I was able to get everything on my list.
I wasn’t able to get a pick up time for this week so that’s why I went in, it really wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated. Much better than a couple weeks ago.
