I just got back from the nightmare... apparently last night the store put down stickers on the floor saying which way to go. I never saw them until a lady pointed them out to me. It’s amazing bright red and green stop signs and arrows went totally unnoticed. And most other people didn’t see them either.
Then the people who don’t know what social distancing is. People just walking right in front or back of you. Not caring. If someone was browsing at something I would wait a cart or so back until they were done. But there are those people that just shove their way through.
Then get home to “DH” and I don’t mean Dear.... being an ass and I just shopped for ALL his groceries for when he leaves... did I get a thank you? No I get the riot act over him not able to find some keys. Which I never touched or moved. No sorry for that either.
It’s been a really ROUGH couple of days. And I don’t have it that bad.

I've been doing grocery pick up because going to the store was giving me anxiety and then the mask thing started (I'm not sure I'd be able to keep it on my face).
The ordering the next order before the first order is actually ready to pick-up (because of the scheduling) is driving me batty. And no I can't just order it all at once, there's milk and produce in there.
I don't know what I want to eat in two weeks. And why are there no lasagna noodles in the entire store, am I spelling it wrong? All those things I never put on my list because they are auto-buys now I have to remember to add them, and I'm not shopping at my usual store because they don't have grocery pick-up, so all brands, sizes, and prices are different. Sunflower seeds, which I usually buy in bulk (my 10 year old is half squirrel) only come shelled in a teeny tiny package etc. And what if I planned 7 dinners and some key ingredient isn't available we're a dinner short?
Why does it have to be so hard? Grocery shopping should not be worse than my 5th graders fraction work sheet!

I went to our local grocery store this afternoon. This morning, dh decided we should have perogies for supper and announced it to everyone. (It is a traditional Ukrainian food that he usually gets to eat on Good Friday if we go to his sister's, who makes them for us most years.) He insisted we have some in the freezer. We have 6 adults and one 7 year old boy in the house. I went through the freezer and found one bag of perogies--2 dozen. No one will be impressed with just 4 each.
I thought, OK, I need to pick up a few things this afternoon, so I can get some then. Then I remembered that EVERYONE in this community is going to be cooking perogies sometime this weekend. So I called the local grocery store to see if they had any. And they DID. And the lady promised to PUT THEM AWAY FOR ME!!! So I got to go to town in the afternoon when my bakery order was ready and pick up the perogies at the same time, and all is well...
No panic at the store. Everyone staying at least a couple of metres apart. Got confronted by a nosey neighbour about "having company" when she saw me unloading the jugs of milk from my cart. I explained we had people here for the long term, so she backed off. She was just sad that her family was not coming for Easter.

I am really trying to think before acting. I'm used to moving very quickly throughout every task (throughout life, really) and waiting for someone to decide which box of cereal is torture for me. I'm trying to have patience with everyone even when their bread selection is taking longer than a turtle race.
I admit to reaching around someone in the yogurt aisle with a quick "excuse me". She was taking FOREVER and blocking the entire area with body and cart and I just want to get my stuff and go. I just want my kefir, lady!

I haven't gone in a store in over a month and only left home for essential medical appt. Because I was out I scheduled a WalMart pickup same day to be put directly in my trunk. As I waited in my spot, I watched people coming and going from store. Many (most?) were wearing masks. What I did notice was many who weren't appeared to be the ones that should- older and/or frail. I don't get it. Of course today I heard someone (I know) say Bill Gates and the techies made covid19 to track us. So yeah, nothing should surprise me at this point, but it does. Masks do not prevent anyone from getting this virus. So judging the elderly on the fact that they didn’t wear one is ridiculous. The non-medical masks prevent the wearer from passing it on. They don’t protect you unless you have an N 95 mask on or something of the like They're certainly better than nothing if someone breathes or coughs on you so yes, they should have one on, being elderly is a risk factor. And if everyone had started wearing one in the first place when this first started I bet we'd have had a lot less cases because we'd have been protecting others.

They don’t protect you unless you have an N 95 mask on or something of the like In general no, probably little. The verdict is still out on a lot about this. The percentage of protection is thought to be low. But any protection is better than none. Me, judging the elderly? Not anymore than you are judging me ridiculous. Quite the opposite. I fear for them. Just reporting what I saw. Possibly they are unaware, I don't know. I wish everyone had someone looking out for them. I hope everyone is doing the best the can to protect themselves and others. Everyone should wear for the protection of others as in if you are sick and don't know it, with the possible side effect of that possible small percentage of protection for yourself. And even if it is found to have no scientifically proven protection at all, it tends to be a reminder for those around you to back off and social distance which in turn could be protecting you. I am not elderly but high risk and my docs etc suggest/want me to wear one for whatever protection it provides. I'll do as they say, they've kept me 'still here' so far.

I needed to get more of the soup DD likes so I went to Target. The soup section, which is normally about 16’ long, was reduced to like 4’ and it was nearly completely wiped out even though there were limits posted. The cereal aisle was pretty much fully stocked and I had no trouble finding what I wanted there. I never even looked at the cleaning stuff aisle because I knew from the whiteboard at the entrance that there was nothing there anyway. The aisles of Easter candy and stuff were plentiful. In my rush to get the heck out of there I forgot to even look for milk chocolate chips. Normally I have 3-4 bags of them in my baking pantry at all times and of course now that we’re home for weeks on end I’m totally out. I have every other kind of chips though. Andes mint, peanut butter, white chocolate, dark chocolate, semi sweet chocolate, even cinnamon. Even mini chips and mini m&m’s. WTH? Surprisingly though, the store was not remotely crowded. Customers were well spaced out and avoiding one another, some had masks and some didn’t. The cashiers had masks but many of the rank and file floor stock employees didn’t. There were several groups with a mom and 2-3-4 kids shopping like nothing was unusual. I’d be willing to bet the grocery store in the same strip mall was crazier though. I avoid that place under normal circumstances but now you couldn’t pay me to go in there. last time I was at the grocery story (a few days ago) they were completely out of baking chips except for vanilla or sugar free. There were exactly 3 bags of nestle chocolate chunks. I bought 2 and left one on the shelf.

timely thread as I just got back from Aldi and Publix. Both stores now have one-way aisles (which NO one seems to grasp how they work), carts being wiped, plexiglass at the registers.
I got everything on my list but I didn't have TP, paper towels, kkeenex, bleach or handsoap on my list (which was good since there were large empty shelves where they usually are). Canned goods were pretty sparse also but I got tuna at Aldis and the very last cream corn at Publix (not a brand I usually but...). Even managed to get lamb for Easter dinner and for the first time in a month, there was ground beef AND chicken (limited quantities) available at both stores.
no issues with stores! Employees were great!
As for my fellow customers? Apparently my area has a larger than average number of village idiots. Back off lady - six feet does not mean TOUCHING me. And that mask only works IF you cover your mouth AND nose. And why are you guys HUGGING?

I forgot this weekend was Easter until today and realized that the menu plan I laid out has me making homemade pizza on Sunday. Oh well, I'm the cook, even the takeout places will be closed so I guess they will just have to live with it. I suppose I could shape it like an egg.
Good Friday is usually crowded in the stores here but not the day before.

I went yesterday to my Costco. I didn’t have to get any prize toilet paper, wipes, or sanitizer. I went at 3:30. No one was there. It was great! I did not find everything I wanted- no precooked ribs, nounsalted peanuts. But found other things to substitute. I never saw the clothing section so neat. No one was in it at all. I just ordered a bunch of clothes from Costco.com and had them shipped right to my house. A lot of times they have a deal on clothes where you buy so many items and get so much $$ off. I got DD two new swimsuits and a three pack of t-shirts because the dang kid jumped a size again, got myself some of the men’s 32 Degrees Cool t-shirts (I like them to sleep in) and a two pack of 32 Degrees knit capri pants. Because I bought five items it was $20 off. Plus I ordered a set of books with free shipping for DD to get from the Easter Bunny because we’re quickly running out of stuff she hasn’t read. Best of all I never had to leave my chair.

Sob. I don’t eat red meat. Maybe once a year I crave a burger. I ordered everything including brioche buns, lettuce, tomatoes, and frozen ore ida fries and it’s all in stock. Hurray. It’ll be delivered on Saturday afternoon. Then as I’ve been reading this thread I realized that I forgot to order ketchup <tears>. Sorry, I know I went a little off topic!

I have a Walmart delivery on Saturday morning. I went to do curbside pickup and they offered free delivery trial. I didn't even know they had that. It was all the things my local grocery store couldn't deliver to me on Wednesday. Trying to do my Easter meal shopping early. Now I have a feeling I'm not going to get these items either.

I just wish people would use them correctly. I made a pharmacy run (and went to the drive through window instead of going inside) and saw two people in the car behind me, both with their fabric masks hanging around their necks. I can see having one on. I also get it that they’re hot and uncomfortable so people want to get them off ASAP. But why would you put the thing on to go in somewhere and then just yank it down when you come out instead of taking it all the way off and stowing it in a bag until you can wash it? That I don’t understand.

I went to the CVS drive through to pick up a prescription and there were about 25 cars in line. Fortunately I still have a few days of pills remaining so I didn't get in that line. Then I drove past ano.ther CVS that was about a mile away and there was no line at all

All the posts about crowded stores with empty shelves is really surprising to me. I shop at a fairly large store and I've not had problems with crowds or finding needed items. The store is sanitizing carts, they have had TP, food and all other essentials I need except for hand sanitizer. I'm not stressed or anxious about going grocery shopping knowing I'm doing what is within my control to be clean and safe. There is no way we can totally eliminate all possibility of getting the virus. Being anxious just wears me and my immune system down, which isn't healthy either. I have to ask...where do you live? Generally speaking, not actual city/locale. I’m fairly metro area outside of Denver and it’s a bit cray cray here...especially in regard to toilet paper for some reason.

I hadn't been out in almost 3 weeks, but I decided to go to the grocery store to get a few Easter treats to put on DS' porch because we can't see him. Also to pick up one or two grocery items.
OMG! I was so stressed out thought I was going to burst into tears, then and there. Most people were keeping a distance, but I just couldn't handle it. I was actually terrified in there.
I won't be going to any grocery stores until things are back to normal. DH will do it.

The thing is, if I really, really need milk chocolate for something I suppose I *could* chop up some of the WHOLE BOX of Hershey bars we had left over from Halloween, LOL. I’m sorry, but what? You have chocolate left over from 6 months ago? Talk about a great pandemic prepper Ha ha ha! Here’s what happened. Every Halloween we buy full sized Hershey bars. DH has some stickers for his business that fit on them perfectly so that’s what we give out. In an average year, we give out about 40-42 to the kids in the neighborhood and they come 36 to a box so we end up buying two boxes and have a bunch left over. No biggie, we take them to the lake cabin and use them for s’mores for all the neighbors there. Well last Halloween I went out and bought the customary two boxes like I usually do, only to find a WHOLE BOX up in the cabinet. Whoops. I ate one and they were still fine. So after giving a bunch out for Halloween, and eating the rest of the open box, there was still a full shrink wrapped box left up in the cabinet that I kind of forgot all about! Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen, to be holed up with all that in the middle of a sheltering in place order until who knows when.

Here Walmart and Sam's at opening have a line but if you wait untill about 20-30 minutes after they open there is no line. Trader Joe's has a 20 minute wait no matter the time of day. Target for us no line as we do the drive up, love this. We gave up on the Walmart grocery pick-up, I'm not staying up fighting for a spot only to have so many things unavailable. Now we shall see what changes as the Governor place a new order: "North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper will issue new directives to the state, including an order that will effectively require stores in North Carolina to limit capacity to 20% of their fire capacity or 5 people for every 1,000 feet. The order will take effect starting Monday at 5pm, according to the governor."
I bet the stay at home order increases after April 29th.
