My son is getting married in November. I ordered my dress a few weeks ago and it has come in but I obviously can't go to try it on or pick it up since the shop is closed. When the owner called me, she said that I should shop for my shoes online now so that I have them when I can actually come in for a fitting. The wedding is formal and I chose a dark navy gown. I planned on silver shoes and a silver handbag but now one of my friends has me second guessing myself. She thinks I should do all navy. Since I have no fashion sense, what say the Peas?

Personally, I think silver would look stunning with navy!

I’d go silver. It’ll be much easier to find something you like & goes with the style of the dress. Navy would be so tough to match, specially shopping online. My mom wore navy at my wedding and didn’t wear navy shoes, I can’t remember if they were silver or gold.

when my older son was married I wore a navy dress with silver/grey shoes. You could barely see them (long dress) so it wasn't a huge deal. Plus I could wear them again (2nd son wedding). Blues are hard to match IMO.

I think silver is pretty? When ds got married I wore a navy dress with gold shoes since the wedding colors were navy and gold.

My daughter has navy for one of her colors and I chose a silver dress. Go for it!

Definitely go with silver. Blues are super hard to match. Congratulations by the way. My son is getting married in 2021 and I also need to look for a navy dress.

Immediately forget anyone mentioned navy on navy, and start looking for a fantastic bag and shoes in silver.

Ok, I don’t know about shoes, but I think what I would do is go to the bridal store and pick up your dress. That way if the store happens to go under you have your dress. Make arrangements for a fitting now so they have that on the books.
Me.....I’d want the dress!

Another vote for silver shoes and handbag. The only way I would buy my shoes right now would be if they could be returned. Without the dress in hand, you have no guarantee that the shoes you choose randomly are going to look good with the dress.

I bet she could make an appointment to just pick it up, not try it on. A curbside pickup....no fitting room. Give the credit card over the phone. I just wouldn’t wait. I believe there are a lot of places that feel right now they are “ok”. I wouldn’t want to chance it.

I definitely think the bag should be silver, the shoes depends. If you are thinking pumps or wedges that's a lot of a bright color pulling towards your feet. I would probably go with nude shoes or navy if you are going with a more solid footprint (ha ha) I would go for a more neutral color.

I'm short, so I'm always thinking about trying to look a little taller. If I were wearing a floor length navy dress, I'd try and find navy shoes that worked with the dress. I think a monochromatic look makes a short person look a little taller. If I were wearing a shorter dress, I would wear nude colored shoes in an effort to make my legs look a little longer.
If I was tall, I'd probably wear silver shoes regardless of the length of my dress.
ETA: Congrats on your son's engagement. I think navy looks good on almost everyone and is a really elegant color.

What about black shoes? I’d choose black over navy. One of my formals is a navy and I wear black shoes with it.

I would not go with navy. I bought a navy dress once thinking I would wear navy shoes with it and finding a good match was really hard. I would go with silver or another metallic. I would wear black before I would go with navy.

When I shopped last year for my ds wedding I tried on several things and let my dil choose. I have an awesome loving relationship with her so I didn't mind her having the say.

Thanks everyone! I really thought that silver was the way to go but I don't always trust my own judgement when it comes to fashion. I took a friend with me when I shopped and she made me try on dresses I never would have chosen and I fell in love with one she chose. I didn't buy it until I went back with FDIL but she loved it too.

Silver!!
Speak to the owner to be able to get the dress so you have it in hand! There has to be a way. It is for a wedding and you need it, in case you have to get someone else to alter it.. Who knows what your time frame will be.

My sons wedding was supposed to be May 1st. My dress is navy and my shoes are navy. Wedding is now scheduled for July but they are having a small marriage ceremony in two days and I have no idea what I’m wearing to it.

I'd go for silver. Unless you have the dress with you there is a risk in buying navy shoes. So many different navy's out there and difficult to buy the right colour/shade without the dress in your possession.

I vote for silver.
A word of advice--my daughter's wedding was out-of-town and I forgot my shoes at home and had to panic buy a second pair the night before the wedding, so please double check that you have your shoes.
Best wishes and I hope all goes as planned.

My boss's daughter has cancelled her for later in May and we are worried whether we'll get to have my son's even in July. It's disappointing for sure.
