There is a thread that has some things mentioned within it that we may need in the future. Let’s start a fresh thread of what we should have on hand at home.
Everyone has been so helpful stating what we need for now.
Future suggestions anyone?

Someone suggested staples, and meds.
Apparently meat plants are having trouble with people getting sick.

I will start keeping “back stock” of all regular items. I am usually not one to do this, but as I look at things that we are using up I am thinking in the future I will always have a spare on hand of things used daily/weekly.

Honestly I don’t really want to post as so many don’t want “the sky is falling” type information. But personally, I think if you can at all manage, do not let critical essentials (meds, food staples, health/comfort items) run low or totally out before you try to replace them.
And if you live in any sort of potential disaster area; flood, wildfire, earthquake, tornado, hurricane/cyclone. Get your back up emergency supplies ready sooner rather then later.
And even if you aren’t a gardener or don’t have much room, I’d consider a windowsill herb or two or lettuce or chard or something. You never know how much they can freshen up some canned tuna meal.

Our town was hit with a tornado less than a mile from our house. We are 21 hours now without electricity. I think I will buy a generator after this.
Thankfully someone I know came and got me set up so we are fine for now with the borrowed one, but very stressful for sure.

I will make sure to have a rubbermaid with hand sanitizer, hand wipes, clorox wipes, rubbing alcohol, masks. I will check expiration dates and take from the container when I need an item and replace with a new one. That way they are newer. I hope that makes sense! Also extra toilet paper and paper towels. No more waiting until I run out to buy more!
I will make sure I have books on hand to read. We went to the library 2 days in a row the day before they closed and I have a good amount of books (I am a slow reader). If not for my books, I would be really worried!

We ordered these for friends and family cambridgemask.com/my sister started prepping last year for hurricanes last year and I never paid attention to her until early this year. We managed to get prepared for this early on, thank goodness. I’m buying as I am at a mid point on anything and I’m stocking up on non perishables.

I’m pretty good about buying before I run out of things, but I will be certain to have extra cleaning and disinfecting supplies on hand. I need to do an inventory of my pantry. I’d like to get more tuna and peanut butter, and maybe some gluten free flour. I’m seriously thinking about getting a small chest freezer for extra meat. Putting something new in my freezer is like playing Jenga right now! I also plan on getting some masks and disposable gloves.

Flour and yeast. They seem to be the things that are still incredibly hard to get in the UK and if I could make a little loaf every few days that would be good. (I know you can make bread without yeast but it's a bit of a pfaff )

I'm seriously thinking about a small stand-alone freezer because right now all we have is the one above our fridge which is on the small side to begin with (because of the space it has to fit in in our kitchen). I probably won't do that though. But for sure I will stock up on:
-- disinfecting wipes and spray -- I always use the wipes at school so I do go through those but I never replace them until I'm down to my last tub (I buy the five-pack from Costco). No longer will I be that person! Nope, I'm going to have at least an unopened pack of five stashed away which I'll rotate so they don't dry up (not sure how long that would take, lol) -- toilet paper -- I usually buy the big Costco pack and then don't replace it until we're down to three or four rolls. Nope, no more of that. I'll be keeping a stash of at least one unopened Costco pack. -- masks -- as soon as we can buy them again I'll be stocking up on a pack of the disposable ones. But also I'm going to work on making some more comfortable ones with a filter layer in between (or more likely, I'll buy them from someone who can sew better than I can! lol)
Mostly that's it. I always keep food on the shelves in the basement... things that we normally eat that I buy extras of when I see them on sale... beans, canned tomatoes, some soup, tuna, etc.
That's about it I think.

I'm seriously considering getting a generator. Freezer would be no good if there was no electricity. I need to organize my little pantry so I can have a shelf of essentials and rotate them out. Things like flour, sugar, crackers and the like.

Six months of expenses in a liquid account. I read that as a liquor account, and was wondering if you meant a liquor cabinet! I thought I was doing pretty good, but I might have to inventory my liquor cabinet! 🤣🤣🤣 As far as savings, 6 months liquid savings, as well as cash. I'm normally not too "conspiracy theory", but I also read to keep extra cash on hand as well.

I have one and it has come in handy. Got a great deal on one at a Black Friday sale. It was well worth it. So this is what I will make sure I have on hand *extra dog food *filters for the masks *disinfectant wipes and spray *tuna *tylenol (My mom bought 2 HUGE ass bottles at Costco a year ago....she gave me one!)

I've always replaced paper and cleaning products as I've started to get low on them at home. Going forward I plan to buy one for now and always have one for later, but only on our must have most used items.

Think about the everyday things you might need.
Coffee. Chocolate. Deodorant. Body wash or bar soap. Laundry detergent. Dishwasher tablets.
Batteries. Light bulbs. Seriously 2 of my flood lights went out in my kitchen. I thought I had a box, but turns out there was other stuff in it instead.

Puzzles. 1000 piece puzzles. Now they are hard to get. And games for 2-4 people to play. We have none here. In addition to the things mentioned above.

We have a small freezer, about the size of our dryer, but a few inches taller. I really recommend that,if you can swing it. It really holds a lot.
I would love to get a small generator.
I will continue to keep up my larger grocery supply in the future.

I'm going to start keeping an extra of all the things that I use - TP, Paper towels, cleaning wipes, cleaning supplies in general, etc, etc. And then just cycle through.
I also would like to get some disposable gloves, a small supply of masks, some hand sanitizer - those kinds of things.
I have a freezer, so I'm good there. And all winter I've been thinking about buying a generator for when the power goes out, but hadn't pulled the trigger yet. I'll probably do that as well.

Houses with storage for all this stuff. Open floor plans will fall out of favor as people look around and think, where would I quarantine away from the rest of the family in this house?

Partly due to living in hurricane country, as well as habit from living overseas in remote locations, I found we were very well prepared (other than N95 masks). The one thing I would like to have on hand, but cannot find here in the US, is the shelf stable boxed milk. It's one of the things I miss from expat days. So handy to have it available, and some of it doesn't taste bad at all. Anyone know of a source in the US?

Back ups of everything... one problem I'm having is ordering my groceries for pick up and not wanting to make the order more annoying (there are six of us, we need a lot of food...) by putting things like soap and laundry detergent and Ziploc bags on there.
I didn't purposefully hoard plastic flower pots from previous garden store purchases, but I'm glad I had so many (and the bags of garden soil I bought when this stuff started happening) so I have tons of containers to start a garden in.
We're board gamers our game collection has been getting a lot of love during this event.

I am the backup queen. I have a lot of cabinets for storage and an under the counter freezer. I always have a back up of every item, sometimes two back ups. When I was a kid by payday we were running out of everything, so I swore when I got married I was always going to have plenty of staples on hand. I have never budgeted my groceries and never will. When I get down to one backup besides the item that I am using I buy one more. I buy what I need. I have never been caught short and I have never been sorry for having a lot of backup, especially since this virus hit.

And I went to the convenience store yesterday and still forgot! Oh wow I went on amazon to look for evaporated milk and they have this shelf stable milk. Is this what you’re talking about? Also if it is, can you please explain? www.amazon.com/Maple-Hill-Grass-Fed-Organic-12pack/dp/B07WWG1QL1/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=evaporated+milk&qid=1586539016&sprefix=evap&sr=8-5

We have a household of 6 and I tend to stock up so i'm not in the store all the time. So I had a bit of toilet paper and a couple 12 packs of paper towels on the shelf prior to this starting. I also tend to head to Bath and Body Works when my soap supply runs low and buy a bunch of them. Thankfully I had a good supply because we are going through a ton of it currently!
One thing I wouldn't normally have given thought to but am grateful I had was disposable gloves. I bought a pack for something last year and will definitely replace them since they've come in handy at the gas station!
