aka: I used to like shopping.
I had to go to walmart for a lot of things today. I normally go more often so now, when I do go, I need everything.
1. They closed one set of doors but a few people are still going through them. They aren't being monitored in any way that I could see. The other set of doors are for everyone to go in and out, so people are even closer together than before. One door to go in, one door to go out, with a divider in between. There are 2 workers supposedly counting people on the way in. Neither are wearing masks and it's not possible to get in the store without coming less than 6' from at least one of them. They do have wipes for the carts, at least. Last time they were out.
2. The store was more full than most days I've been there. Not as bad as the day they said school was closing for a while, and not black friday full. But fuller than usual and the lines were long enough that you couldn't go down the main aisle without being right up and cozy with people. Almost every single aisle I had to go down had at least one customer in it. Mostly more than one. Most people were not shopping alone.
3. Some employees were wearing masks. Maybe 3 or 4 that I saw. A few customers were wearing them but at least a couple had them pulled down so their nose was out. One had a scarf loosely wrapped around her face and every time she looked up at a shelf, her face came out of the scarf.
4. The aisles are not one-way so it's still impossible to keep your distance even if you wait (and wait, and wait) for other customers to finish in the aisle. They usually end up coming right at you instead of leaving the aisle the other way. Sometimes (often) you get in the aisle to get your stuff and then suddenly someone is coming towards you from both directions. If I did stand 6' away from someone, while waiting for them to get done, someone else would inevitably walk between us.
5. Lots of things seem to be in stock now. Except for 90% of the butter section. And the entire flour section and most of the rest of the baking aisle. Some specialty items that sold out in the first days of the ordeal have not been restocked and there is no longer a spot for them. Which bums me out because one of them is an item I've never seen anywhere else and I use it a lot. Hopefully they'll stock it again eventually.
6. After getting finished with my shopping (took forEVER even though I took the most logical route to get everything) I went to the self checkout as usual. The register I went to was almost out of bags but there was one open, and frankly, used-looking bag, on the hooks. Took that one off and didn't use it. When I was almost done I was short about 2 bags, so I went to a closed register and grabbed two bags. When I came back the cashier that looks over the self checkout was putting the used looking bag, along with another used looking bag, on the bag hooks. Who knows whose hands were in those bags. The cashier was wearing a mask but no gloves. Oh also, the bags that I did use were stuck closed so it took some time to get them opened since I wasn't about to lick my fingers to do it (I normally don't anyway). Normally I'm a champ at getting in and out of the checkout (and the store) quickly but the stuck bags foiled me.
7. When I exited the store, there were about 5 other shoppers (some with family members) also exiting the store. So we were all bottlenecked into one small exit door. I tried to wait in order to preserve some distance but was kind of pushed along by the people behind me. They didn't literally push me but got as close as they could without actually touching me. I had nowhere to go but through the doors because of the divider.
It was a clusterf*ck.
