I think it's fine to get in the tub/shower to check the fit, but why do they always do it with their shoes on? Around here the realtors all make you take your shoes off at the door when you do a walk through. It’s been like that for years. When we had our other house on the market a couple years ago, we bought those shoe covers at Home Depot and put them in a basket with a sign to please put them on. We weren't living there, so it was empty. We didn't want the floors to get messed up.

I recently saw an episode like this. He plopped on the bed and turned on the shower. Like WTF, dude. How else are you supposed to check the available water pressure? He wasn’t checking water pressure. Nope. He was fascinated by the extra large rain head and he just wanted to see how it worked.

I agree. Anything I’m agreeing to purchase and live with, I need to check out. In some countries, homes are sold including the furnishings. In my opinion, that would be the ONLY time it would be acceptable to plop on a bed.

Weird unless you are buying the place fully furnished

This is why I am packing up darned near everything I own. I have had friends who found things missing from their home after it had been shown. From jewelry to other small and pocketable items to one friend who had a sculpture of a couple embracing. It was about 25 inches tall and was purchased on their honeymoon. It disappeared and the homeowners noticed it was gone soon after coming back home.
He went into the back yard shortly afterward to make sure things were okay there and found his sculpture hidden in the bushes! He figured someone was intending on returning that night to steal it. He was so pissed that he set his camera up facing the location (this was before all the home surveillance cameras) and then hid in the yard waiting for someone to come.
Sure enough, after it got dark, he heard the gate open and a young couple, giggling quietly, were sneaking into the yard headed toward the bush where his statue had been placed. He snapped their picture with his camera remote and then jumped out of his hiding place to confront them. They ran off, but he had their photo and through his realtor was able to eventually find out who they were. He intended to press charges because the piece was worth a lot of money, but more importantly, it was extremely sentimental to them.
I planned on packing up a huge percentage of my stuff and moving it to storage, but the bedspread wasn’t even on my radar to protect. My realtor said people would be required to use tissues when touching anything during this pandemic, but I’ve decided to wait until the majority of this is over before listing. I’m more worried about Covid-19 because I can remove my things, but I can’t sterilize the house after every showing.

I still wouldn’t do it during a showing. During a home inspection, for sure, but not when it a casual showing. I think he did this because this was the house they “picked” in the end. we all know that on house hunters, the buyers are already in escrow or closed on the house they “pick”. By the time they filmed, they owned the house already.

Showers, tubs, beds, furniture....the thought of all of it makes me queasy. I'm sure it's a necessary evil, but I may have to totally stage my house and get all of my possessions out of it before selling, if possible. And on a side note, as a potential buyer, the thought of sitting in someone else's bathtub completely grosses me out. I'd like to think the seller had cleaned it before the showing, but if not, ICK!

Sorry I’m a few days late here, but thank you everyone! WOW! I learned a lot, lol. We live with family and they will be putting the house up on the market in the near future. If we are still here, I’m totally getting our valuables out of here. Sheesh!!
