trump this morning...
”For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect....”
”It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!”
trump has been very clear that it’s important to open the economy. He has been trying to do it for the last couple of weeks. In his little demented brain people will practice social distancing if the shops and restaurants are open and people go back to work.
Cities are now starting to issue citations because in the limited available outdoor spaces people are not social distancing.
What do you think will happen if you turn the hoards lose? In all honesty how much social distancing will you see?
Now dimwit is claiming it’s HIS decision when the country will open and not the individual states. Of course he is saying he is working with the governors, but if you believe that, I know this iconic bridge ....
I read this morning Japan, after opening up the country, has declared a new state of emergency because the “brilliant” enemy is back.
We all want to go back to before this virus took over our lives, but it has to be the right time to open up the country and not trump’s time because it’s clear he cares more for the dollar than American lives.

NPR..
”Officials in Japan's Hokkaido prefecture declared a state of emergency — less than a month after lifting a similar order.
The announcement follows nearly a week of double-digit increases in coronavirus cases.”

How exactly does he propose to “open” states up against a governor’s order? Federalize the National guard and force citizens out of their homes? At a certain point many businesses aren’t going to want the liability of being open for anything but essentials.
What a mess and the worst possible person “leading” through this.

I heard that Mayor Garcetti here in L.A. is turning off the electricity of businesses that refuse to close. Maybe other mayors and governors can take a clue from that.

Didn’t he also retweet about firing Dr.Fauci?
I am surprised he didn’t fire him yet. I thought he would fire him three weeks ago.

So he wanted to leave it up to the states to deal with everything, but now opening back up is a federal decision? How does that make any sense at all?

Damn oafish prig needs to make up his mind. Either the states are on their own handling this and you are not an ordering clerk or anything to them, or you”re in charge, and thus responsible for the havoc this has wreaked on the nation - as a result of being woefully unprepared.
But, of course, he wants to have it both ways. There’s a shock.

The governors were left to close or not close their states, find their own supplies (not the federal government’s job), but the decision to open states is to be made by the president. He’s infuriating.

ABC News San Francisco..
”Cramming dozens of people into an illegal club during this outbreak is like dropping a lit match in the woods during fire season." Police have shut down an underground nightclub for violating San Francisco's stay-at-home public health order. #coronavirus”

Dustin Dorsey..
”Yesterday I saw a family of 7 playing at a local park in SJ, while I was on a walk, moving the caution tape out of the way to play on the closed playground! @sanjosepd drove up and the family scattered. How long will it take for people to follow the rules? abc7news.com/coronavirus”
If folks are social distancing or staying out of closed spaces when it’s mandatory, what do you think will happen if dimwit opens the country too soon.
While this was a family of 7 playing at the closed park what do you think would happen if others saw this family playing in a closed park? The old “if they can do it, so can we” mentality would kick in.

And I realize you can't have it both ways. I was one who thought Trump should enforce a national stay at home order and not leave it up to the governors to do so since some of them were really hands off about the whole thing.
I also would be okay with Trump ordering businesses to open back up IF (Very BIIIIIIIG IF!) he was planning to use well-thought out reason after listening to top scientists and epidemiologists and had some metrics to use other than his bigly ole brain, and IF there is widespread testing in place first.
But neither of those ifs will happen. He has already said testing will not be widespread because it doesn't need to be, and he has already said the metrics he will use are in his brain. So no, I do not want him making any decisions on when to open the country back up.

Some people understand how the virus spreads and won't take unnecessary risks after restrictions are lifted.
Some people don't care, and never adhered to restrictions anyway.
But a lot of people are waiting for *permission* to get out and mingle and have close contact and be in large crowds again. And they will flock to it in droves as soon as they're given the official go-ahead. And that's where the re-emergence of new cases and re-ignition of community spread will spring from.

When he said the metrics he was going to use were his brain, that terrified me. I am glad I live in a state with a good governor (IL) and big city mayor (Chicago). I don't think they would lift bans. But like I posted on another thread, not having a nationwide lockdown is like having a peeing section in a pool. Some states will screw us all.

What he will do is limit the amount of federal aid that people are getting--unemployment, stimulus money, etc. That way we really have no choice but to go to work or the economy will really collapse. I guess we will see what happens.

And once again, I am glad to live in a country where the state and federal governments are working TOGETHER to determine when restrictions will be lifted. Oh, and where our head of government is a scientist, who is dealing in facts and listening to the national medical advisors.

I don't even know what to say any more about Trump. He is so reckless and dangerous. I wish he would just sit back down and let the grownups figure this out.
Gov. Cuomo's press briefing this morning started to cover how a smart, integrated approach might work. He used his familiar "turning the valve" analogy to describe how regions might tentatively take their first steps. But what you can't do is open the floodgates. There are so many moving pieces that have to work together. And he reminded us that this won't be "over" until we have a vaccine, which could be 12-18 months out. In the meantime, we have to keep the disease at bay while trying to return to some semblance of everyday life.

The problem is that Trump has no real idea of how the government is supposed to work. He views the presidency more like a monarchy: he is our all powerful king, and he doles out federal funds and favors to those who kiss his ring.
He is destroying the checks and balances the founding fathers created, and his supporters don't care because he promises he'll respect the 2nd amendment.
He is the most loathsome, dangerous person in the world, and I'm embarrassed and sad that America is responsible for unleashing him on the world.

Would have been fine, not!! But HE was the one who decided NOT to give supplies to the states to save lives! He continue to under cut the states with their purchases of supplies! He did not take charge when it was needed, why now! He continues to refuse tests that he said everyone could be tested and none of us are!
