I have been using it for years but not in that context—more like “it’s junk, but it’s cute/has some value/isn’t actual garbage.” I lived near a store years ago that called itself a “junque store” and was like that.

I decided not to open the other thread because if the word in the title. It irritates me for some dumb reason when people try to make words upscale for lack of a better term (although poncy) night fit.
This thread is incredibly amusing to me.

If memory serves, FIL used to pronounce it “YOON-key”. Nooooooooooooo! I just want to say “Get off my lawn” to this whole thread. LOL, he was a senior citizen already when he passed away, soooo...

I have been using it for years And how are you pronouncing it? I can't 'hear' a version in my head that doesn't sound ridiculous

I wasn't going to make a fool of myself last night and confess that I didn't know what it meant either. I've never heard of it until I saw it on another thread on here. Now, having looked it up I'm thinking it's a one word description of the saying "One man's trash( junk) is another man's treasure" maybe- especially to the upcycling side of things.

I have been using it for years And how are you pronouncing it? I can't 'hear' a version in my head that doesn't sound ridiculous I just pronounce it like “junk.” I really apologize—from reading this thread, I feel like I have come off as somehow pretentious or precious or something. I thought it was in common use :/.

I must be in the minority but I always see it as "El Junque" the rain forest on Puerto Rico.

Exactly. There was a little antique, vintage type store near me growing up. It was Ye Olde Junque Shoppe. 1960-70s attempt at humor. Thank you monklady123, you spared me googling.

I thought it was in common use :/. Not at all! I thought I was being really thick, not ever having heard of it before. That's how we learn things here. When that word finally makes its way to my town, I'll be the only person who can give a little smug smile and explain what it means - and be thankful for the Peas!
