You won’t be baking just the starter, you need a bread recipe that calls for sourdough starter. You will be adding flour, water, salt and other things to it. For example, I have a bread machine and like to make a Wheat Sourdough that also has sunflower seeds and chopped walnuts in the loaf, and also has milk, butter and brown sugar in the 🍞 machine recipe.
This is called SOURDOUGH SUNFLOWER SEED HONEY BREAD even though it doesn’t have honey - I don’t know why. It is amazing though! Like many bread machine sourdough recipes it calls for additional yeast since true sourdough needs a very long - like overnight - rise and unless you have a customizable program bread machine, that is impossible.
1.5 pound loaf
1 cup sourdough starter
1/2 cup fat-free milk
1/4 cup butter, cut into pieces
1 cup bread flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/3 cup raw sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons SAF yeast or 2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
2-POUND LOAF
1 1/3 cups sourdough starter
2/3 cup fat-free milk
1/3 cup butter, cut into pieces
1 1/2 cups bread flour
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
3 tablespoons chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons salt 1 3/4 teaspoons SAF yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast
Directions
1 Place the ingredients in the pan according to the order in the manufacturer’s instructions. Set crust on dark and program for the Whole Wheat cycle; press Start. (This recipe is not suitable for use with the Delay Timer.)
2 When the baking cycle ends, immediately remove the bread from the pan and place it on a rack. Let cool to room temperature before slicing.
