I think she can be mad at Target. Businesses everywhere should be coordinating a plan to have people return safely. Otherwise, numbers spike super high, and guess what? We’ll go back to phase I. My usually crappy neighborhood Walmart has someone by the door, ensuring everyone who enters is wearing a mask, enforcing a one entrance door and one exit door. Someone else is walking around reminding people about the one way aisles. I understand that but people are literally getting shot trying to enforce masks. I can understand stores being hesitant, it’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation. they could at least be counting people. They weren’t and that goes directly against the governors order of only 25%.

WTF! I’m can’t even fathom that amount of new cases overnight in a population that size. In a population of 20 million our highest daily new cases were in the 400s.
From the outside looking in, the way this is being handled in the US is appalling. Nearly 90k deaths, no flattening of the curve and agitation for restrictions to be lifted.
I’m really sorry you are having to live through this.

They weren’t and that goes directly against the governors order of only 25%. I agree with that. But I also think a lot more are allowed than you’d think. I know my Walmart had a sign that said max occupancy (right now) is like 1025. Can’t remember if they’re allowed to have 25 or 50% of regular occupancy but that still seemed like a lot.

I am getting edgy just looking at that. I am glad you were able to switch your prescription. Honestly, when I have been out here, people generally have been very well-behaved, although I haven’t been anywhere near a place like Target. I have played by the rules and not gone to stores (done online ordering, etc) since March 8. I get people are excited to be out and all but damn. It’ll be a long while before I go our again. We were thinking of going to my husbands business partners restaurant tomorrow but I told DH nope. I literally feel gross after being at Target and I’m not wasting a good meal worrying about who Is around us without a mask.

I don’t think it’s fair to be mad at Target. We’re expecting businesses to all of a sudden be the police enforcing city/county/state ordinances. That’s not fair to the businesses or the people who work there. That’s not the job they signed up to do. I’m not expecting policing. I’m expecting them to be at least attemp to know how many people are in their store since that is the Governor's rule. I’m trying to find this rule and can’t. I see that non-essential retail establishments need to operate at 25%, but Target is classified as essential. Can you point me to the order that says essential businesses have to operate at 25%?

Wow and yikes. I used the Ralph’s pharmacy to avoid Kaiser it was worth a few bucks more to save me an hour or more waiting with a bunch of sick people. Store was mostly empty and people were wearing masks snd social distancing. It’s the only store I have been in since this started and was much less crowded than I feared. That Target no way. I wouldn’t have wanted to deal with that even pre-Covid. I don’t blame you for transferring your prescription. I don’t see why people can’t follow simple rules and distance.

I hear you. It's very frustrating. I ran across these numbers today from the Texas Medical Center (Houston): www.tmc.edu/coronavirus-updates/daily-new-covid-19-cases/Notice that we're back in the red since opening up 2 weeks ago. Houston/Harris county is still hardest hit in the state, but no way should Dallas/Ft. Worth, Midland/Odessa, or Amarillo be ignoring what has happened here since re-opening.

I haven’t read the thread yet but try contacting head office to let them know how it was at the store. You might save a life if they are forced to make changes in the store. Years ago I contacted the Head Office of a store here after the store manager would not address something. Head office took care of it and sent me a gift certificate to shop again. When I went back a month later the issue was taken care of.

mom , I'm mad at your city, too. I was just looking at the numbers because I know it's a new hot spot and FIL had to go into the ER there today and have emergency surgery. I'm so worried he's going to pick it up while at the hospital. Fortunately, the did do a COVID on him before surgery. By comparison, Dallas county has been hitting about 250 cases a day, so that's really astronomical. But really, no one is taking it seriously there. It goes waaaaay beyond Target. We have many friends and family there, and, for the most part, they are carrying on as usual.

According to Fox News NC is leading the country with the most new cases...hard to say if it’s increased testing (finally), the fact most people seem to not be taking this seriously, or if they’re gearing up an anti our Dem Gov before the GOP convention here this summer.

Our governor has been very clear that retail will not open here unless the stores have a plan to abide by the rules set forth by him using input from retail leaders in the community.

My county of less than 50,000 people has had 13 cases, no deaths, everyone recovered. No one here wears a mask. The people on the local bulletin board are pissed that we are under stay at home orders. Our local lake is closed. Hiking trails are closed/fenced off and people are parking along the roads.
My husband was in a neighboring county with a similar case load and not a soul was masked, Lowe’s no one, Walmart, no one. Grocery store, no one. He had his N95 from when he sands stuff that he brought but he wasn’t wearing it.
He shops every 2-3 weeks at Costco in a different neighboring county from Lowe’s and all that above, and said the last time he went (2 weeks ago) no one was wearing masks, kids were all over the place, no one distancing. He wore his mask. There is no line to get into Costco.
I do delivery only from Target. I fill my cart and when it hits $35, I have it delivered. I usually do in store pick up but would rather do drive up now. I have a stupid phone so I can’t contact them from the car when I get there, sooooo home delivery it is.
I am totally ok wearing a mask when I shop if it helps prevent me from getting sick or from me getting someone sick if I'm a carrier. It’s courtesy,

I don't think the Governors order of 25% is for 'essential' business which Target probably is especially if it is a Super Target.
Whats frustrating though is that if Abbott would mandate masks, even if it was in certain high population counties or hot spots, it would help a lot with compliance. He has been really weak on any real mandates and has told individual cities or counties that his laws overrule theirs and makes it hard for counties to try to slow the spread.
Oh, and Targets website is full of all the precautions they are supposedly taking so i would hold them to blame as well.

I will totally validate you, OP. That's nuts.
I live in a super tiny town and today a press release was put out that one town over from us there was a Mother's Day church event that went on. 160 people attended. The next day someone went and got tested and was confirmed to have COVID-19. That's 160 people exposed because no one could stay home from a church function on Mother's day. Ridiculous.

I feel fortunate to live in an area that I do not encounter anything like this at all. It’s easy to think I live in a bubble where everyone else in other parts of the country are falling all socially distancing rules and then see pictures like this and know it’s not the case.

Jeez. People here, at least in my town, are taking it so much more seriously. We just went to pick up dinner and everyone was in masks, everyone gave everyone else at least 6 feet. Our Target has someone outside letting people in one at a time; you have to be wearing a face covering and there's no more than 2 people in the same group who are allowed in together. This is what I'm seeing in my area although I've only been to the grocery store and BJ's Wholesale. We're supposed to start opening up next week but it's like everyone is rushing to the stores now. I've seen some big lines of cars going into shopping areas this week and it just cements my belief that most people just don't have the resilience/self-control/common sense to act like anyone else in the world exists but themselves. I'll be keeping my limited activities in place for the foreseeable future.

I went to Aldi yesterday. They're still marked for one way aisles and social distancing and 1 person per cart, but they no longer had someone wiping down the carts as you returned them, nor did they have the carts already loaded with a quarter and loose so you didn't have to handle that mechanism. I don't know if was just mine or if all of them have changed their processes. Everyone still had masks on, though.

My son works at Target and his store has done a good job handling all of this. They have an employee counting incoming and outgoing customers to keep control of the numbers. They have staff on every shift whose job is to clean and disinfect. It's been challenging trying to make all of these changes but I appreciate the effort put into it because it helps to protect the employees too.
The 10 year olds who coughed on the couple makes me livid. I would have found their parents and maybe even contacted authorities. They need to be taught how serious this is... assault with bodily fluids. Teaching this at 10 years old might keep them from real punishment later on.

That's really irresponsible of the store. They need to have tape on the floor for where to stand in line and limit the number of people in the store. How are those people ok in that environment? Target does. They have big red dots on the floor that say exactly where to stand. You can even see them in the picture that Mom posted. You're right. I zoomed in from laptop and saw that. But how are people not wearing masks? That's a requirement here, as well as a maximum number of people in stores.

Side note - CVS will deliver your prescription for free, in 1 to 2 days. It's very easy to set up in the app. It rocks! And, you can add on other health items.

Ugh! What a nightmare. Good that you switched your prescription to another pharmacy.
If people are so unable or unwilling to control themselves and would actually be so low as to deliberately injure or kill someone for practicing safe distancing, the stores and other public places are not the place for them! There are facilities for their kind!
And shame on the parents for not raising the boys to be gentlemen. They are old enough that they should know better than to act like that.
I will be continuing to mostly stay home until this craziness is over.

So I have’t been in Target in so long they just sent me a letter asking if my Red card was lost because I haven’t used it I would post on their FB page and I would notify the corporate office. We have a phased re-opening starting next week and I will continue my quarantine. I’m gonna sit back and see what happens. Looks like I will be working from home through the summer. The only 2 things I “need” to do is get the dogs to the groomer (have an appointment 7am on Wednesday) and DS desperately needs a hair cut. Don’t know when we will brave the barber because DS has autism and is having a hard time with the thought of wearing a mask. But I think if I tell him either I do it or we go to the barber, he’ll pick the barber even with a mask

I was shocked at Target the number of full families there. Four, five, six people shopping together. Some of the young ones without masks (anyone over 2 is supposed to wear a mask in that city). This. I went to Walmart once. Never again. Also, when someone saw someone they knew, there was an elaborate handshake and a conversation inches apart . One cart, one person. We're not going to the county fair here.

Small inconvenience to get to the other side. Lets all be there for each other. Trust me, I did go straight home and shower. I even used our shop shower because I didn't feel ok coming into our home with the germs. Also wipe everything down in my car. Thankfully I have not been carrying a purse as my normal ones are not ones that I would want to disinfect so I only had my card and keys in my pocket. DH was like 'why did you even bother getting a cart'? Ugh. I dont know. Old habits are hard to break.
