Tuesday Morning is having problems and will probably close stores too. Just read in the WSJ tonight that Tuesday Morning plans to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy as early as this weekend. Hertz filed for Chapter 11 Friday night. Someone mentioned them further up the thread as well. Suspect there will be more in the coming week.

Anyone guess Tuesday Morning? katlady did. I tagged her in the post above yours when I first read they were preparing to file. You should update your OP with a list of the stores we guessed and then mark off the ones we got right! Tuesday Morning is not a store I'm going to miss. There are two fairly close to me, but both are in really sketchy shopping areas that I refuse to shop in. I don't think I've been in a TM for over 15 years. I do hate to see more retail workers lose their jobs though.

We have two TM that are fairly close to each other. I wonder if one or both will remain open. I drove by one the other day on my way to the grocery store and there were quite a few cars parked outside.

I just read that the US Division of Le Pain Quotidien has also filed for bankruptcy and closed all 98 stores in the US.

Now I kind of want to go there to see if I can get the set of Sweet Sugarbelle alphabet cookie cutters I kept passing up at Michael’s, now they don’t have them anymore and of course now I want them. Ugh.

I think the party stores like Party City are going to have trouble. They were already having some issues with helium shortages before all this. Graduation is a huge sales time in those stores and very little is going on with grad parties this year. Second biggest is Halloween and who knows how that will go this year. I can't really see kids going door to door at strangers homes if this is still going around like now. Halloween may be on a much smaller scale this year so less parties, less costumes and less decorations.

You're right. Sears was the original Amazon, but they didn't adapt when the internet came along so they lost all the infrastructure they had in place for mail order. JC Penney was a similar story, but at least they updated their merchandise a little. There's no hope for either one. They're too far behind. I think Victoria's Secret will be history. They make lingerie for men to look at, not for women to wear. Companies like Tommy John and comfortable bra companies are eating their lunch. That’s not completely true. While I’ll grant you some are made like that, my favorite bras are from Victoria’s Secret. They’re not really sexy or anything, but super comfortable Body by Victoria. The problem they have with me, is I end up ordering online from them because they don’t stock enough in stores. When I physically go into a store, I want to walk out with the item I want, and that rarely happens at all. They need to decide what they’re going to be. It’s like they’ve lost who and what they are. When I first moved here I’d go in and get cute jammies, and reasonable bras. Most of their sexy styles are insanely crazy priced now. Same here. I often end up picking up the bra I love and having to order the matching color/style/cut/size combo at the register, or the other way around. We did pretty much back to back cruises this winter, and I like to work out, every day. I wanted to have more seamless panties to wear under my leggings and dresses (I'm that person that takes 15 pair on a week long trip...) and I waited too late and ended up buying a couple 3 packs of Vince Camuto and someone Ashley at TJ Maxx. I also needed a white bra, and bought a cute black bra. Man. It's not even been 2 months, the lace Ashley whatevers have already hit the trash, as have several of the Vince Camutos that the seams came undone. I have stuff from VS that is YEARS old! The bras... the black one 2 of the eye hooks came loose, and the white one... lets just say I'm not shaped like it after 3 washes. I have VS bras that are 5 years old that I still wear a lot. I agree with the pricing on the sexier stuff. I'm too top heavy to wear most of the pink stuff, but their workout clothes.. I swear by them. I put them up against my Athleta any day. I would be sad for them to go out of business.

Talbots really struggled and shrunk during the recession so I would not be surprised if they don't survive. Oh, I hope not. That is where I get 80% of my clothes. Our store has reopened though I haven't gone there yet. They will have a challenge with their business dress clothes with so many people working from home or losing their jobs. I don't see how Barnes and Noble hangs on. I used to love magazines but now they either have so little content they aren't worth it or they are specialty publications that cost more than a book. I haven't bought a book from them in years now. We browsed one day a couple of months ago when we had time to kill before an appointment and I just couldn't find a thing I wanted to spend money on. I download as much as possible free from the library and will buy an e-book if there is no other way to get it free. I used to love the special Nat Geos or Time magazines.. But they are $15.99 now at the grocery store. I just can't make myself pay that. Or $6 for a magazine I'll flip through in 30 minutes.

Or $6 for a magazine I'll flip through in 30 minutes. I began the switch to digital subscription for magazines 10 years ago. While I hate what Apple did to Texture, it was still a good deal at $10/mo to read all the magazines I wanted. Lately though, even the digital issues of the magazines are so full of ads that I can flip though a magazine in less than 5 minutes. This month I cancelled the Apple News+ and started reading the magazines through my library via the RBdigital app. There are a few magazines I can't get that way, but to be honest, I really don't miss them. I'm really over the magazines like Magnolia and Oprah who write these length articles that aren't much more than personal diaries. I look at magazines to be inspired by decor, fashion, or food, not to read the owner's inner most thoughts or what word I should be focused on for the season, etc. Give me pretty pictures, great ideas/recipes and fewer ads, or you risk being ditched!

There was a post on our local facebook group that the Hair Cuttery is going out of business and will not reopen.
Now, I would never have noticed, but I know it is sad to a lot of people here. Is it closing where you live?

I'm doing the same thing through Libby, my library app. Plus, I used to keep all those gazillion Time/Newsweek/USNews and World Report mags because I thought they'd be interesting later. Well... now with the "Internets" I can read them whenever I want and they aren't in my space. I'm still having trouble with this for books. lol I still prefer paper books and magazines... But not enough to pay for and store them anymore.

I'm doing the same thing through Libby, my library app. Interesting. I have the Libby app, but my library only has books available through it. I have to use the RBdigital for magazines. They also use Press Reader for newspapers. It would be nice if it were all available in one app.

I recently bought some of the wrap side hem shorts which are made out of the same material and they are fantastic. I'll be wearing them to work out in all summer. Talbots was hit extra hard by the shutdown. They apparently have a giant warehouse in Mass. which was completely shut down for weeks and weeks. It was only recently allowed to reopen. I just received some orders that I placed at the beginning of April.

Just read that 24 Hour Fitness will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and close over 100 locations. 14 of those are in the Houston area. It looks like they are pulling out of Houston completely. Did anyone guess this bankruptcy? @fuzzymutt - I checked, but my library has opted to only use RB Digital for magazines. They did just recently increase the selection, so that helps. I was able to get enough of the ones I like to read through the app and dropped my Apple News+ subscription.

Muji America filed for bankruptcy. They are the American branch of a Japanese store. They sell stationary, house goods, and clothing. They only have 15 stores in the US. I used to like to go their store and look at the stationary items. They also have neat containers and stuff, sort of a mini-Container Store. The stores are still open.

Sur la Table has filed as well. They are closing about half of their 120 US stores.
David’s Tea is closing all their storefronts and operating online only, I believe.

Though people are making up for the lack of parties in the face to face sense by doing car parades & such. I was actually thinking Halloween would be an easier tradition to keep than some others. Mini chocolate bars, individually wrapped. The virus doesn't particularly do well on 'stuff' compared to in droplets. It should, in theory, be fine. Now.. Thanksgiving dinner & my 50th birthday this year... those, I worry about. And Christmas. I refuse to cancel Christmas.

Just got an email that Catherines will be closing all stores. I worked there for a few months last year and when I stopped in 2 weeks ago was told my old location was closing (was the smallest store they had) at the end of the month. They are keeping their online store which is nice, but now will be a hassle to buy clothes. I'm one that needs to try stuff on. Just because one size in this make fits, doesn't mean it's going to fit in a different. Their email directed you to Lane Bryant now so guess their stores are safe for now.

Oh wow! Hadn't heard about Muji, Catherine's or David's Tea. Right now the Sur la Table near me isn't closing, though three out in the suburbs are. Anyone hear any rumblings about Williams Sonoma/Pottery Barn/Rejuvenation? Back before Christmas I had heard they were struggling financially (as are many retailers), but haven't heard how they are doing now. Williams-Sonoma (WSM) is actually doing well; it's stock hit an all-time high today. They say that the "stay at home" companies are doing well, such as Home Depot, Best Buy, Wayfair, etc. And try getting a contractor out these days...

I was sad when Teavana went out and while I didn’t like David’s Tea as much, it was at least something (and the only saving grace when I have to go to the mall).

Closing all, 42, US locations, and 82 Canadian stores. 100 will remain open. They also have their tea in some stores, I've seen it in Superstore (so maybe all Loblaw's carry it). Everytime you went in that store all the non-tea products were totally different. It wasn't just a seasonal change, multiple times per season. How many travel mugs, tea mugs, ice tea pitchers can you buy? While they were all cute, pink bunnies today, orange flowers in a few weeks from now etc you can't keep buying them. What did they do with all the leftover inventory?

Remember the stores where you would walk in and you ordered from their catalog books, then they brought your order to the front of the store for you from a warehouse in the back? I remember they always had lots of jewelry and tons of little knick-knack stuff. I wish I could remember the name, but it was in the Bay Area probably late 70's/early 80's. Service Merchandise?
