this is a suburban issue. here many, many houses do not have parking available. some of our lots can be as small as 15 feet wide. you have two drivers in your house, you have already taken up more room than your "lot" would allow.
we used to have no parking but were lucky most of the time because there was a school on our street. that meant probably 30 less houses on one side of the road. most days (other than christmas or easter), if i got home at a reasonable time, i got a decent spot.
one neighbour did tick me off, parked his beat up old car on the street. he didn't live there - he ran it as a rooming house. the car didn't work and literally had small TREES growing in the area where the windshield wipers rest. we finally reported him to the city - you don't get to take up one whole valuable parking spot as vehicle storage!!

There aren't very many cars on the street on my block, but visitors and others will park facing the wrong way - this makes me insane. No reason, really. I grew up in LA and you do not park facing the wrong way there, so it's just years and years of being used to people parking the right way. This seems to be an Idaho thing - people just pull in wherever.
Another Idaho thing - in my neighborhood, people don't always lock their cars, so they'll park them with the windows rolled down. Which is neat if my sprinklers are going to come on while the car is sitting there. Am I supposed to keep an eye on that for them? Ugh.

I don't mind when it is just a one time thing for a party or a visit with a friend. When someone continuously does it because they don't have space at their own home, I have a problem. I like my view. The parking area in the street is right in front of a big area that is full of trees and bushes. I love opening my door and letting in the breeze and if I am sitting down I can look out the window and enjoy. When someone parks right there, it blocks my view. If they are doing it all the time it is because they have used their own spots because they don't have enough space because there are too many cars. Most of the time they are not utilizing their garage either. Keep your crap around your own house, not in front of my house.
Again, when it is used for purpose of parties, visiting and the same, I have no problems. It's when it is abused.

Not talking about urban but in suburban areas. When I was house hunting, one of the first neighborhood disqualifies was if I saw cars parked on the street. All these areas had houses with garages and driveways to park at least four cars. To me, based on where I live and where I was looking it is an indicator of too many people living in one house.
A common thing here is in some neighborhoods (mostly HOAs in this area) people will rent big houses then multiple people will move in to share the rent. We are talking 10-15 people often unrelated in one four - five bedroom house. Not really my business who lives in a house, but from experience generally this situation does not lend to good neighbors. From what I have observed, that many people tend to create lots of traffic, parties, noise and neglect of the property and depreciation of the neighborhood property value.
