Amy Cooper Charged With Misdemeanor For Calling Police On Black Bird Watcher "Amy Cooper, a white woman captured on cellphone video in May calling the police and falsely accusing a Black man of threatening her life, will be charged with falsely reporting an incident, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said on Monday. Manhattan DA Cy Vance announced Monday that Cooper will be charged with a misdemeanor for falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, which is punishable with up to a year in jail. According to The New York Times, Cooper was issued a desk appearance ticket and will be arraigned in early October; if convicted, she will be given a conditional discharge, community service or counseling as opposed to jail time." www.forbes.com/sites/jemimamcevoy/2020/07/06/amy-cooper-charged-with-misdemeanor-for-calling-police-on-black-bird-watcher/#53d9e5e92828

UGH. She didn't need to be educated. She already knew exactly how racial bias works and purposefully used it to her advantage. Gross. I don't know what I think her consequences should have been, but this ain't it.

I struggle with this but yes if I am screaming Defund the Police that means no arrest or charges for the Amy Coopers of the world either. He is absolutely right.

I feel she should do some serious community service. But she did suffer some. Lost her job. Her reputation. She probably can't go out in public without getting hate thrown at her. We'll see if she has learned anything from this.

Can you imagine what it would look like if there was some reciprocity in the grace that black people have shown white people decade after decade? What happens when black people run out of forgiveness? Olan, I waited to respond to you so I could think carefully about my words. I have worked in child protective services for 28 years. I have seen things that most people could not imagine. I have seen the tremendous evil perpetrated on children. I have interviewed men that have murdered children, men that “ justified” the sexual abuse of INFANTS because babies like to suck on things, mothers who beat their child to near death, I’ve had to remove children from the nastiest homes but they still cry for their moms, and I’ve had to tell children that their mom died from an overdose. I’ve also seen parents overcome significant substance abuse and worked through the trauma they’ve inflicted on their children. I’ve worked with and for all the children and families I’ve served of all races to the best of my abilities. I’ve have seen the best and worst (and points in between) in people of all races and ethnicities. I have no doubt that you have experienced many things on a daily basis that I cannot begin to fathom. I HAVE seen kindness and grace extended by people of different races. No race or ethnic group has a monopoly on kindness. Olan, you don’t need to respond to my post. “As someone who has been employed in child protective services for 29 years, your assertion is factually incorrect as a broad, sweeping statement.” MerryMom This helps me understand more where you were coming from in the Transracial Adoption thread. While no race or ethnic group has a monopoly on kindness you guys certainly have a monopoly on....let’s call it the absence of kindness We can’t ignore it. I know you’d like me to. Moral depravity and extreme cruelty is how I would describe white people’s treatment of Black people. If that makes you feel bad about yourself or your ancestors, I understand. Just be careful not to deflect.

What happens when black people run out of forgiveness?”
I asked another pea what would have happened if white women intervened in the rapes and splitting up of families. And her reaction was similar to Merrymom’s. I am not tagging either of the peas because I don’t want to ever engage with them. However I did want to point out that MOST EVERY challenging question I pose does unanswered.
Why do you think it’s hard for people to ponder questions like these?

There wasn’t a try. I did. And I get why Merrymom takes issue with it.
The reason why people hate a bumped thread is because they’d have to contend with a “fuller picture”. I don’t bump a thread needlessly. Nothing here is a reach or out of context. I wouldn’t say I am beating a dead horse BUT I’m okay with my behavior being classified in whatever way works for you The party passing judgment. I actually did want to share Amanda Goreman and Christian Coopers books. I just happened to re-read the last pages and saw that response. The Tranracial Adoption thread is a “fresh” thread.
What I want everyone to see is the deflection and the desire to avoid attacking issues head on. Merrymom doesn’t want to go into the fresher thread because then
1. She would have to read the links and information I shared. We see this happen a lot. A simply resistance to new information. When we know better we do better and some folks simply do not want to be tasked with becoming better people.
2. She would also have to acknowledge that for almost 30 years she has been apart of a system that causes harm to Black people. Her job is usually one that allows her to be “seen as good” so if I had to guess my insistence we deal in research and facts made her a little livid.
You want people to see what you want them to see. You want people to talk about what you want to talk about. That’s fine. I do too.

And FYI I soo wanted to post this in adoption thread along with a little jab at NY CPS but I thought to myself hmm that’s a little off topic because this woman’s children are biologically hers. So trust me I think of context and relevance before bumping a thread or sharing something. Ironically these links would be relevant in BOTH threads. White parents raising Black children and behaving like a Karen😐 www.theroot.com/shes-damaging-our-children-black-father-of-nyc-bagel-k-1846566739/amp“She revealed that she's been banned from Kossers - another bagel hot spot - and Trader Joe's for refusing to wear a mask. Unsurprisingly, Denaro - who claims to be 39 percent Nigerian online - will not get the vaccine, nor will her children. instagram.com/stephaniedenaro?igshid=1kczm7pgrgth5A court decided this woman should raise bi-racial children. I don’t know if the father fought for primary custody or not but an actual judge reviewed this case and did not believe CPS should be involved. That’s America.
