There is something you can do to advocate for change in policies that will reduce police violence significantly in your town/city. The person to contact is listed. Sadly my city does not implement any of the eight and I contacted my city manager this morning asking for that to change. San Diego is the nearest big city and they scored a little better with 3 of 8. 8 Can't Wait is one of Campaign Zero's projects to end police violence. How does your city compare?

Five of the eight for Portland.
I'm fairly certain several of those are pretty new. In the recent past, Portland Police and a *major* problem with the use of deadly force in mental health crises situations. That resulted in a lot of public outcry and policy change, which I think is why we are looking better than average on this front now. There's still a lot of work to be done. I'm guessing chokeholds will be banned pretty soon.

8 of 8 for san francisco.. not surprising. but we have new measures being talked about.. more training on alternates to shooting.
even with all policies we still have police using their guns too much.. we have done lots around mental health training. we also have worked hard to have a diverse police force..
we are sort of lucky that so many have experience in protesting.. both the protesters and the cops.. we know how to do it.. so it makes t he looters really stand out...

6 of 8 for Seattle. The PD there is still under federal oversight for prior issues.

Yikes. I just checked ATL because our company is HQd there and I normally spend a week a month there...only 2 of the 8.

I'm not in a town/city - and the nearest city isn't listed. I've requested for it to be added. The nearest good-size city isn't listed either.

My city's police dept announced yesterday that they are immediately halting the use of the carotid hold as an acceptable technique. I need to do some more research to find out what their policies are on the other issues.
Thank you for linking to these resources.

I chose 4/8 for the largest city near me (about 30 miles away, in the town I work in). I live in a rural area (different county even) that is sheriff not police.
These are the 4 they met. Requires De-escalation Requires Warning Before Shooting Requires Exhausting Other Means Before Shooting Duty to Intervene
These are the 4 they have NOT met. Bans Chokeholds and Strangleholds Ban Shooting at Moving Vehicles Has Use of Force Continuum Requires Comprehensive Reporting
I'm not surprised at the 4 they have NOT met. They've got a major gang issue and people are killed on the streets daily.
