I think the issue would be if the ambulance or car driving the person to the hospital (for instance, it would be faster for us to drive than to wait for an ambulance in most cases) ended up stuck in traffic not knowing it was closed down by protesters. I would definitely advocate for news media to cover any such protest, and report that drivers will want to avoid certain streets by name. It would be a good service then to state which alternate routes would be available. Another possibility would be that the department of transportation for that area stage some of those flashing light up message boards alerting drivers to potential jams and suggest alternate routes. Like the way they do for road races, fundraising marches and sporting events. We have overhead message boards that alert you to potential road issues for days in advance. It is a significant inconvenience for me, but I haven't lobbied for avoiding hosting series playoffs or 10K races. I figure we all share public spaces and not all the time will that play in my favor. i would be in favor of this, but I would also say that our interstates do not get shut down for events. Other roads yes, but not interstates. Our interstates are only allowed be closed overnight or weekends and with a lot of advanced warning. Of course, I live in Colorado and the only interstate going north/south that I can think of is I-25. And to have to go around can take miles depending on the exit. In most areas there is not a frontage road. East/West is I-70 and I-76. Same thing, to go around isn't as easy as just popping off an exit, driving a but and getting back on.
