My first name and maiden name are not spelled the most common way. Today my Mom called to say she was reading the legal notices in our local newspaper and a person with my first name and maiden name, spelled exactly the same as mine, is starting a business. The additional bizarre connection is that this woman lives 2 doors down from dd and her family! DD doesn't know her.
Have you met someone with your same name if it is not a common name?

Sooooooo My maiden name is super unusual. I think there are six households that currently have it.
My grandmothers next door neighbor (50 years ago.. till about 20 years ago) had the name, and there is no knowledge of any possible relation.
Then... about 10 years ago, my sister thought someone was putting up a..... less than favorable Facebook account (I’m all positive) and she let me know someone stole my name.
Turns out, my dads cousin (family fall out.. Italians ya know) had a daughter they gave the same EXACT name as me! It was her legit FB page. We briefly talked online, but neither of us made the effort to meet.
It’s absolutely crazy!!!

Woman who lives here has same name, spelled the same way as mine. I have not met her, but have met two people who once worked with her.

My mom's first name is common, but not her last name. I recently found out one of her doctors has nine patients with the same first and last name!

My father didn't have a super common last name (my maiden name). A week to six months or so after his death a real estate agent in the area started getting a ton of listings in the area of town as my parent's house. Same exact name. His yard signs seemed to be everywhere. It kind of freaked us all out and as far as we know the real estate agent isn't a relative. Then they all disappeared and I haven't seen one of his signs in years.

I have an unusual first name. Anytime I hear of someone with the same name I get excited. My maiden name is uncommon also. I would be flabbergasted to find out that there was someone with my same name!

I am a xray and CT technologist and years ago I kept getting calls about an overdue bill from a radiology clinic with a lady same name as mine.

As a teen I recall the FBI showing up at our door looking for a man with the same first and last name as my Dad. But they had different middle names, so they definitely had the wrong guy!
My DH has a pretty common first and last name and his niece didn't bother to call us to ask our address when she was sending out her wedding invitations. Instead she sent it to the address she found in the phone book (that is how long ago it was! And we were unlisted anyway). Wrong person! She called wondering why we hadn't sent in our RSVP.

I actually met someone with my name when I was working in college (not married, so I still had my original name). She came in for help, I asked for her last name which was the same as mine and thought that was weird, but it wasn’t until I asked her first name and she told me it was the same as mine that I got kind of freaked out. It is super weird to ask a complete stranger their name and have them tell you your name in response!
I have only met a few people with my first name, maybe 5 in my life. Never anyone with my maiden name except these examples.
I have to be criminally checked for my job and there is someone with my maiden name that caused me grief because she couldn’t pass the registry. I had to be fingerprinted before that was standard to prove I wasn’t her. Now everyone is fingerprinted, but it was a pain when I first started working.

We have a fairly unusual last name. Years ago we were at a county fair (not ours but further north) and we went to our favorite thing- the goats to pet. Love them.
I have a photo of DD petting them under a 4H sign with the 4H kid's name on it. We didn't even notice until I had photos made. The name on the sign was exactly the same as my daughter's first (not that common) and last name. (even less common/weird spelling)
Turns out there was a distant relative with a daughter by the same name.

Oh, and back in the early 80’s someone with my mom’s name was writing bad checks all over our town. We were in Nordstrom once and it was taking a long time for the employee to pack my stuff and we couldn’t figure out what was going on. Turns out she was stalling and all of a sudden the Security people were there asking for my mom to come with them. I was about 12 or 13 so you can imagine how mortified I was! Obviously they got it cleared up, but my mom made sure she used her credit card whenever we shopped at any department stores after that for a very long time!
Kind of funny that two people with my mom’s name and my name were criminally inclined!

My son's name was fairly unusual when I named him, but has become a bit more common. He decided to go back to college in his late 20s. One day he asked me, why I was calling the college about him. What the heck? I didn't call the college. Come to find out, there was another student there with his same name. We have currently learned there is a 3rd one here in Colorado with the same type of business! Son has redesigned his business name, logo, web page as a result as he doesn't want to be mixed up with someone else.

Not me, but my sister discovered she has a name twin when we were at regional track meets in middle school. Our maiden name isn't common and neither is her first name. Her name twin is male. It was very confusing to hear his events called.

I have a less common first name, and paired with my maiden name, it was quite uncommon.
My first day of grad school, I go to get a student ID made, and they can’t find me in the system. Apparently there was an undergrad freshman with the same name as me and the system confused us as the same person!
Of all places to go to school, we picked the same one and happened to start at the same time.

I was married to a man who has an unusual last name- only his small family has the name (less than 40 people in the country!) with this spelling.
His little brother married a woman with my same first name, so we shared this same first and last name for years. We have both divorced our husbands.. My ex is now married to a woman who ALSO has my same first name!! So my ex-inlaws have only ever had daughters in law with one name. Hahaha!!

My surname is a common first name but rare as a surname, and my DS’s first name is also a surname but much less common as a first name. Imagine something like Wilson David. Many years ago, XDH took DS to the GP, where there was another patient whose name was the reverse - so like David Wilson. And bizarrely, they had the same birthday, but DS was born in 1997, while the other guy was born in 1979.
I knew a couple of people who had my full maiden name, but have never come across anyone with my married name.

My first, middle, maiden, and married names are all super common so there are lots of people with various iterations of my different names. I’ve met several of them just by happenstance.

Have you met someone with your same name if it is not a common name? No, not me. But my cousins have and nobody knew there was anyone else with their names until a few years ago. Now, there are a whole bunch of people with the same unusual names! It's so weird, especially seeing them all on the same pages in a genealogy or family group.

My husband is Sicilian and the first time he brought me to his house and hometown we were driving around and we passed a house and he said: "That's my cousins house. We don't talk to them." I asked "why" and he said "I have no idea."

When we bought this house, we ran into issues with the mortgage company claiming we had an undisclosed mortgage on another home.
Turns out a man in our town of only 23,000 with the same first-middle-last name as my husband, who worked for the same state agency my husband retired from, and who banked at the same credit union we use got mixed up with us. The credit union had been taking HIS payment from my husband's account for several months... unbeknownst to either of them! Not MY account. I would notice - believe me. Anyway we got it straightened out and our closing went smoothly.

There's two separate families in my area with the same name. Absolutely no relation. When my dad and his sisters were kids, they went to one school. The other family lived in a tiny town just south of here and attended that school. Despite being in the same county, the differences in school sizes meant that they never played each other in sports. However, the local paper covered the whole county. My aunt and a girl from the other family had the exact same name. To make it confusing, they were the same age and they even played the same sports!
There are stories of extended family members calling my grandpa to tell him that the paper got my aunt's school wrong or her position wrong.

I've never found anyone with any of my maiden/married names ever.
However, my ex has a common first name but uncommon last name. About 30 years ago, we were in Kansas City and at a hotel. Back when they had phone books in the rooms. I looked up our last name and found a guy with his name. NBD right? Except they had the same address we'd lived at a couple years before, and their phone number had the same last 4 digits. It was super weird! I think it was an older guy and he died a few years later.

Years and years ago my dad had a not very common first name, but the last name was not super uncommon. Dad’s parents did not give him a middle name so officially he was E_______ G______. Everything was fine until after her and my mom got married. They tried to buy a house and found out there was another EG with really bad credit. They straightened it all out - or so they thought. Over a number of years they would get past due notices, Bill collectors and denials of credit. They always figured it was this other EG.
It was only minor annoying until the other EG got arrested. Oh the calls they got! So dad officially took his mothers maiden name as his middle name. He started using the middle initial “H” . The other EG went to jail. All was quite until he got out and started using the same middle initial. And the credit problems started all over! Dad finally started meeting with creditors and banks in person, taking all sorts of official personal identification. Turns out, the other EG was a different race. I think they flagged dads accounts to verify identification. The problems mostly disappeared. But the other EG started using the letter “A” as his middle initial. They got bills and phone call in that name for ages because A and H sound so similar on old telephones.

I have a really uncommon last name and a first name that can be spelled 4 ways. There are two people in the United States with my exact name. There is also a person who spells her first name with an additional letter. She is a Christian mommy blogger, which is definitely not me, and it bugs me that I try to google myself and google keeps redirecting me to her.

There is a local real estate agent that shares my name whose name is on a ton of signs. Sometimes when I share my name, I'm asked if I'm her (somehow I doubt the same thing happens to her).

Years ago, I had 2 students in my homeroom with the exact names. First name very common and last name just unique. When I was given the enrollment cards, I thought a parent had somehow filled out 2 cards. Then I noticed the address was different so I began to really compare the two cards. I ended up calling one student the first name and the other the middle name. I have always thought it very unusual for that to happen.
The girls were not related at all.

I know a lady at church who has the same unusual (and unusual spelling) first name as me. Her married last name (fairly common) is the same as my maiden name. I always pause when I see her name written in an announcement, or when I see her name on Facebook.
