Move mountains to vote. Help register friends and neighbors to vote. Donate to your ability to candidates who share your views - wherever they are - you are not limited to donating to only local candidates. One thing that cheers me - if people are willing to protest even when faced with tear gas (oh, I'm sorry, "chemical irritant") and rubber bullets, they will move mountains to get to their polling place - even though our country refuses to do all-mail voting; even though we don't make election day a holiday.

"The demonstrations have ignited a larger push, particularly by Democratic leaders, to persuade people to organize and vote in addition to peacefully protest. "This is not an 'either or.' This is both, and to bring about real change, we both have to highlight a problem and make people in power uncomfortable, but we also have to translate that into practical solutions and laws that can be implemented and we can monitor and make sure we're following up on," former President Barack Obama said in a recent online address. In other cases, voter registration groups such as When We All Vote, an organization co-chaired by Michelle Obama, are seeing big jumps in support at the financial and volunteer levels. The group has raised over $55,000 since last week, on an increase of 70% of online donations. Over that same period, it signed up 1,500 new volunteers. In two days, it trained 700 people to become voting squad captains who lead voter registration and engagement in their communities. We’ll see.
We’ve been here before and after the protestors have gone home and the dust settles we find nothing has changed.
Unfortunately the only thing that may happen is the spreading of the coronavirus.

Snoop Dog has announced that he will be voting for the first time in November. Shame on him for never voting but yay that he is going to. I hope he is very vocal about it and helps get out the vote.

You know carly1030 rioters and looters are criminals. Do you think anyone on this board condones that or that we that we need schooling on that subject? You would be wrong. Those criminals have caused much hardship for many and should be prosecuted. It is horrible what they have done. Rioters are NOT protesters. So should all those protestors just go home because of a handful of criminals? I might ask the same question of cops. Should they all just go home because some of them have murdered citizens?

Oh goody, someone is giving a talk that is empowering. Now for sure everyone will rush to the ballot box and vote to start making these long overdue fixes to this country. People get all excited because they’re protesting a wrong. They’re engaged. They’re making their collective voices heard. They’re righteous in their demands. And then the protests stop and then what? There may be some change in some cities, but real change comes at the ballot box in all cities. This country has been here before, not once, not twice, but many times. And yet nothing has changed. In fact some could argue and make a strong case things are even worse. So for now I’m in the “we’ll see” column. Do I hope these protests will change things? Yes. But I honestly don’t know if this time we as country will make it happen and we probably won’t know for sure until November.

I'll tell you right now carly1030 if a cop kneeled on the neck of one of my unarmed daughters for 9 minutes, killing her in the street while she cried out for me? I'd be burning every fucking thing down in my way toward justice. EVERY FUCKING THING.

I think people need to hear it (that voting is what counts when it comes to making change in a democracy) over and over and over and then it starts to sink in. I think we're getting there.

How much work you are willing to do You make his point I think you may need to listen to what Warner is saying again because I’m not sure you understood what he was saying. Because how exactly does my comments about my doubts the enthusiasm shown at these protests will show up at the ballot box make his point? Racism is never going to go away and the reason is because you can’t change what people believe. But what can be done is marginalize it, make what they think and their actions insignificant. The only real way to do that is elect people and pass reforms that will legally remove racism from the government, from businesses, from our police departments, from our schools and wherever laws can remove it. This is why President Obama and Congressman John Lewis have both issued statements about protesting but also the importance of voting. But all the protesting in the world isn’t going to do much good if you don’t follow it up at the ballot box. And the road is going to get a lot rougher as this country loses its white majority.

voting day should be a holiday. Some people have to wait hours in line to vote.... Make it online for all and you have days or weeks to get your ballot in. No waiting.

My young supervisor (23) never votes and says she, her husband and friends will all be voting this year. They are horrified about what is happening and she really feels ashamed/bad for not voting in 2016. She said she never felt her vote counted. I didn't want to ask if she is dem or rep but based on what she said about the protesting I gather she is dem. I told her I was proud of her. I felt like a mom. She could be my granddaughter. LOL
