Truthfully, I never thought about the fact Kosher salt isn't iodized. Is that one of the reasons it's kosher? I have no idea. So based on this thread, I bought iodized salt today when I went grocery shopping. I've been using exclusively Kosher for at least 10 years, maybe more.

Iodized. I always thought iodine was something important we need to have in our diet and it's not easy to get otherwise. I haven't researched it but that's what I grew up believing. I recently told my recently married DD to buy iodized table salt.

I have many different types of salt but the "regular" salt we use is iodized sea salt.

I always look for iodized salt when grocery shopping because I read it's an important nutrient and difficult to get into our bodies unless you eat seaweed or something like that and I don't. I do try to buy the healthier salt that isn't pure white like Morton's table salt. I look for sea salt that is iodized or something like that because these kinds of salts are healthier.

I always buy iodised table salt.
I also have in my pantry: iodised sea salt, Himalayan pink rock salt with lemon, black Cyprus salt, smoked Cyprus salt, Murray River salt flakes, sea salt flakes, rock salt, chicken salt, and my favourite (because it's so pretty) gold salt!

I see that several people have mentioned kosher salt here, and I have seen it quite a lot recently when using American recipes. I had no idea what it was, so I finally looked it up today: What is Kosher Salt?So now I know!

Seriously…check the back of your salt canister...Morton salt does have sugar in it. I only found out myself last year. 😳 Morton salt DOES NOT have sugar in it. I checked just now. Salt and iodine. no sugar. I am diabetic, I read labels and always check for hidden sugars and carbohydrates.

I bought some iodized salt yesterday and just checked the label and it does list dextrose. Also found this on their website: Why is iodine added to salt? Why is dextrose added to salt? In 1924 Morton became the first company to produce iodized salt for the table in order to reduce the incidence of simple goiter. Dextrose is added to stabilize the iodide. Iodine is vital to the proper functioning of the thyroid gland and the prevention of goiter. Actually, the amount of dextrose in salt is so small that it is dietetically insignificant. Morton® Iodized Table Salt contains 0.04 percent dextrose or 40 milligrams per 100 grams of salt. Morton® Plain Table Salt contains neither iodine nor dextrose. The box I have doesn't show dextrose, but looking at the FAQs and researching , you are correct. However, it only has 40 milligrams of dextrose per 1/4 teaspoon serving size, which is considered dietetically negligent as 1 gram (100 milligrams) of carbohydrates is 4cal. I also do a low sodium diet (high BP) so I don't do that much salt. Mortons 1/4 teaspoons salt is 590 mg. Low sodium diets are less than 2000mg daily. But its good info and good to know!
