Texas high schools fly the confederate flag? Is that common? It's not the same as the confederate flag but I know for certain "Dixie" is played as a fight song at least one high school in east Texas. I was shocked and embarrassed for them when I heard their marching band play it at half time last year.

Great news! So happy to hear that he wasn’t targeted.
Now, the unfounded and racially biased rumors Can STOP. It wasn’t fair and was gross.
When one goes on to have discussions that “they did/might have did it” to gain sympathy for their cause or in this instance their race that is so racially charged is just more racist bullshit that doesn’t help anyone.
"The FBI report concludes, and photographic evidence confirms, that the garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose had been positioned there since as early as last fall," NASCAR said in its statement. "This was obviously well before the 43 team's arrival and garage assignment.
"We appreciate the FBI's quick and thorough investigation and are thankful to learn that this was not an intentional, racist act against Bubba. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who love racing."
No charges will be filed, the FBI said.
Wallace, who is NASCAR's only fulltime Black driver, successfully pushed the stock car series to ban the Confederate flag at its venues less than two weeks ago.
U.S. Attorney Jay Town and FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. said its investigation determined "although the noose is now known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 last week."
The agencies said no crime was committed and the evidence did not support federal charges.
A crew member for Richard Petty Motorsports discovered the noose Sunday at the Alabama race track. NASCAR was alerted and contacted the FBI, which sent 15 agents to the track to investigate.
The Wood Brothers Racing team said one of its employees informed the team he recalled "seeing a tied handle in the garage pull down rope from last fall," when NASCAR raced at Talladega in October. The team said it immediately alerted NASCAR and assisted the investigation.
The discovery of the noose stunned the stock car series as it is taking an active position in a push for inclusion while distancing itself from its rocky racial history. The series first tried to ban the Confederate flag five years ago but did nothing to enforce the order.
Two weeks ago, Wallace renewed the call for a ban and NASCAR answered but has yet to detail how it will stop the display. There has been criticism of the ban by some longtime fans and security had been stepped up for Wallace, a 26-year-old Alabama native who has worn in the last month a shirt over his firesuit that read "I Can't Breathe." His car had a Black Lives Matter paint scheme for a race in Virginia.
Talladega marked the first race since the coronavirus pandemic that fans were permitted -- 5,000 were allowed to purchase tickets -- and some upset with the flag ban paraded past the main entrance with the Southern symbol. A banner flew over the speedway Sunday of a Confederate flag that read "Defund NASCAR."
On Monday, Wallace was joined by all 39 other drivers and their crews in a march down pit road as they pushed his No. 43 to the front of the line in the moments before the race. When the group reached the front line Monday, Wallace climbed out of his car and wept.
"This sport is changing,'' Wallace said after the race. "The prerace deal was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to witness in my life. From all the supporters, from drivers to crew members, everybody here, the badass fan base, thank you guys for coming out. This is truly incredible, and I'm glad to be a part of this sport.'' (ESPN)

He wasn’t the one who “found” it. Well I have raced car and worked in shops all my life, all shop doors have those ropes. Even if he didn’t find it, don’t you think this could have been avoided by explaining what this does? But that’s not as fun as going on the view and being the black victim.

myshelly and @kas I have read articles that sounded like the flags were being flown in the campgrounds as well as AT the tracks. The campgrounds are often in the middle of the racetrack. The flags are put up by fans at their camp space where they are visible all weekend. They were not being taken into the stands or officially put up anywhere by NASCAR.

[br It has been said repeatedly that the drivers aren’t allowed in those garages. You seem very vested in this for some reason. The natural assumption would be that you are having such a visceral reaction because of his race.

She’s not vested in it. She’s a troll. Apparently a racist bitch of a troll who can’t read, but a troll nonetheless.
I’m really glad it turned out not to be related. Am I the only one who wonders why it was put up there to begin with and no one thought to take it down before? Or has that been shared and I missed it?

That is a very common rope pull knot for garage doors. I have seen them in shops, on a garage pull at a gymnastics center, at a high school shop class, at storage units... That wasn't the only garage to have that type of handle/tie system.

She thrives on being noticed, so most tend to just let the racist sit in her rocker and let her go off her rails.

And I can have intelligent conversation, she’s just not worth it. The only reason I even knew what she initially posted was because I unhid her post when a poster reacted in a way that was very much unlike her usual self. And then I saw the racist bullshit and called the troll out for what she is.

Bubba Wallace was not the one that found it. He was notified by NASCAR. How did NASCAR officials not know that...or was it their publicity stunt? 🤷♀️

I don't believe for a minute that he didn't know it was just a rope to pull down the garage door. Just a publicity stunt. “He” didn’t find it. A staff member did. And given that BW was the one who rallied for NASCAR to ban confederate flags to make everyone feel welcome, and they did, it would not have surprised me at all to see him and his team targeted, because so far, of what we’ve witnessed from the rabid confederate and blatantly racist displays since then. Just take a look at some those who are out there extolling the “virtues” of the confederate flag—spewing vile, ugly, nasty rhetoric. They are not at all spreading good vibes.

If the "he" you are referring to is Bubba Wallace , it wasn't him that found or reported it. A crew member from Richard Petty Motorsports found the rope on Sunday and contacted the FBI, who then sent agents to the track to investigate. Bubba wasn't aware of it and never saw the rope but said NASCAR president Steve Phelps came to see him on the Sunday evening to tell him. It wasn't beyond the realm of possibility that it could have been a noose so soon after the confederate flag had been banned. Nothing surprises me anymore.

How long have we lived in a "See something, say something" culture? Usually, people also say "it's better safe than sorry."
Fixed loop knots, and slip loop knots have different functions even it they both look like "loops at the end of a rope." I can't tell from the photo if that knot is one is designed to constrict, or fixed. You'd have to actually, pull on and see. The FBI still called it a noose in their follow-up statement. On CNN, Bubba said that they wanted to know during the investigation "if it was just a knot," but after, still called it a noose. If the knot was tied in a common, fixed knot style, I would think they would have described it that way. Especially, because now people are going to be looking at all loop knots as suspect.
It's social media that has jumped on the "it's just a garage pull." People could very well have fixed loop knots in their spaces, and are assuming it is one type of knot over an other because you could hurt someone if you use a slip knot when you should be using a fixed knot. It would usually be dumb to use the wrong knot for your function. But I don't know that it makes it a given that this one was, and not someone who did something because they thought it would be funny. Watch someone grab it, and their hand gets pinched, with a dash of "marking one's territory" thrown in.
While it would be good if this really is just a garage pull, with a standard type of fixed loop knot, all of the reaction shows why it was still the right call to "say something," and for NASCAR to demonstrate the way they did and say, "if it was a noose, it is NOT okay."
EDIT: I also saw someone mention, it might have also been a fixed loop, but not a standard knot like most people would use. But something that looks more noose like, with the horizontal wraps. Problematic, because tying it atypically, would imply intent of some sort that I might also describe as someone trying to be funny / cute / marking one's territory, etc when it is inappropriate.

You are a disgusting piece of shit. The best outcome was that it wasn’t a federal hate crime. Would it have been nice if they finished the investigation before it was made public? Absolutely. But that’s hard to do when there are FBI agents at the track on race day. It needed to be researched. It wasn’t just a rope pull, he was never in the garage, it was the ONLY garage stall rope fashioned into a noose shape, and his team was on high alert for anything out of the ordinary for very valid reasons, not all of which need to be made public. (I don’t know the extent of them either, but I know there is more than what has been made public that gave them reason to take it very serious). That whole garage came together in a way that I’ve never seen in my 10+ years. Thankfully, they have common sense and will stand behind him now. There are positives to a negative situation. Anybody that would laugh and gloat and post stupid memes about discovering it wasn’t the equivalent to a death threat is sick in the head.
