OCD is a deeply distressing mental illness. I hate when people talk about their quirks or weird habits as OCD. I’m not getting at you specifically, OP, it’s just a quirk of mine that I hate people doing this. My DD had completely debilitating OCD for many years. Even now she struggles on occasion. The pandemic has been hard for her. I have quirks. I too have several weird habits. I also have a few *oddity’s” that to some would be considered OCD. I also have OCD, not crippling, but in some things that cause me great stress and anxiety if I’m not controlling them. My title was specifically separated by commas, each their own individual “thing” and in no way, no where did I allude that they were the same level of frustration or mental illness, or lump them together, or compare them as a similarity. It was simply a thread for people to share any or all that they felt comfortable with.

I have lots of walking issues (counting steps, counting paces between dividers, cracks in the sidewalk etc), all silly but now I can walk on a cracked sidewalk safely. My mom has passed and I am free of that quirk.

I like lists too Restless Spirit . A lot. My weird quirk has to be my uncontrollable urge to doodle doo various songs thru the empty paper towel roll of gift wrap roll. I do it when I'm home alone, or I'll do it for an at home audience. It often morphs into a game we call Amphitheatre. Each person will doodle doo a song and whomever guesses first gets to go next. We've been playing this dopey game since ds19 was a toddler. Please explain! I have no diet what you are talking about LOL. Signed clueless Aussie.

I’ve spent years as a picker. As a child I was deeply ashamed of the scabs all over my arms and legs from the picking.
Tweezing hairs was so satisfying to me that I ended up with almost no eyebrows by my 20’s. Now, I completely empathize with the previous poster’s chin hair experience.
I adore sorting. Also “ facing” things like pantry items, books on shelves, ( lined up by height), anything and everything that can be lined up. My Penzey’s Spices are a thing of beauty.
I also do weird little things when I play pinochle. It’s a sort of patting the cards, in a pattern. Once I became aware of it, I’ve tried to stop, but so far I can’t. It doesn’t hurt anything , but I’m afraid my fellow players will find it annoying.
And frankly, there are more. It reaches into pretty much every area of my life. But I figure these things help me feel calm and safe so I don’t mind.

You know, when you have an empty cardboard core from the inside of a roll of paper towel, gift wrap, etc? Has to be a longer one, TP cores won’t resonate the same way. You put one end up to your mouth and make a sound like “Do-doodle-loo-do-do-dooooo!” Only she does it with sounds from an actual song, LOL.

But I figure these things help me feel calm and safe so I don’t mind. It wouldn’t drive me nearly as crazy as it does if the hairs poked out in an easy to tweeze place. But nooooo. The two places they routinely crop up are directly in the middle underneath my chin, and way on the side of my face about an inch away from my ear. Impossible to see either spot without a flashlight, even in my normally pretty bright bathroom, and nearly impossible to see AND reach without some form of contortion. Have to hold the light AND a magnifier in one hand and the tweezers in the other (and unfortunately I’m not an ambidextrous tweezer), while craning my neck just so to be able to see it and then pluck it. The struggle is real. I can’t wait until my kid is old enough to just take care of these things for me, LOL. When my mom was in her later years, I would often pluck any weird stray hairs that I saw pop up on her. Once she had kind of a long one that I plucked. She said, “Ouch! What did you do that for?” And I said, “Mom, just keeping you from going around looking like a billy goat!” It’s just what good kids do.

Do you guys have paper towel roll with the cardboard tube inside? Wrapping paper also comes on a cardboard tube. When you finish with the paper towel, you have that empty card board tube left. I use it like a musical instrument to hum songs thru it. Wow, this sounds a lot weirder when explained than I thought. 😂

And yup, definitely makes me sound whack. 😆

We do that with thick blades of grass.

I have to have all my labels facing outwards in the kitchen cupboards. It makes sense to me because things like herbs and spices all look alike from the back so you need to see the labels to know which dried green leaf you're looking at. This is just me, not learned behaviour from my mother, because she doesn't do it. She says she knows what's in all her jars, then I have to watch her picking up and examining every jar on the shelf to find the one she wants. Drives me mad - haha!
As a child I tried to make everything I did even. This is hard to explain, but if I had to make multiple trips up and down the stairs carrying things, I would make sure I turned clockwise one trip, then anti-clockwise the next. I would step on the first stair with my left foot first, then the next trip it would be my right foot. I think I began it as a game. I also didn't tread on the cracks in the pavement.
I also "play tunes" with my teeth, like playing a silent piano. From left (lower notes) to right (higher notes), just touching different teeth together to represent each note. I think that began when I started learning the piano and wanted to practise without anyone seeing or hearing, so I used my teeth instead. I still catch myself doing it now.

I'm not sure whether we're weird or if it's just a way of making sense of the world. So many people do/did things like that, and we have grown into functioning members of society, so it is obviously a normal progression of growing up. I wonder whether people who didn't/don't have little quirks like that struggled more? Or maybe everybody does to some degree.

I always wondered if it was a nervous type behaviour but then you realise that lots of people do similar things, as you say. Interesting 🤔 😉

I find a lot of the quirks, obsessions, and weird things endearing to people.
(As long as they are not harmful)
