The rainbow post that mentioned chandeliers reminded me about how scrapbook trends have come and gone. I know we've mentioned these before but i thought we could revisit the subject.
Chandeliers were big in the mid 2000s I think? I was never sure how to use those. We went through an owl stage about then, too.
I think we are just coming out of the llama stage now and are heavily into the succulent trend. What other trends have we been through and what do you think the coming trends will be?

I remember mustaches and couldn't imagine what I would ever use them for, let alone chandeliers.

There was the giant ampersand trend... Animals wearing glasses... deer heads... 1950's pick up trucks carrying Christmas trees, flowers, what's next one with gnomes in the back? 2020 is all about the toilet paper shortage, masks, working from home and sitting on the couch... but trends seem pretty random so maybe wolves with sno cones? I have no idea. I either keep seeing the same grinning pineapple or it's in two scrapbook lines with one so emoji pineapples is my official guess ETA: a quick search for pineapple: Photo Play, Simple Stories, Echo Park (both summer lines), Kaiser Craft, My Mind's Eye, Bella Blvd, Prima, Carta Bella, Pebbles, Jillibean Soup, and Fancy Pants all have a pineapple paper in stock right now. Only EP and JBS have smiles though.

I hated mustaches! I hated the puns, I hated everything about them. Who ever thought that was a good idea?
Chandeliers were awful too, unless you did really frilly pages. I did like owls- they remind me of the 70s and I had some photos from that era to scrap.

I don't think I ever used an ampersand and every scrapbook package came with those. I don't mind animals wearing glasses- I like animals and a large percentage of my family wears glasses. I like deer heads- they work really well for Christmas pages. I have a deer head paper punch that I use over and over. I even own a deer head necklace. The 1950s pick up trucks are okay with me, too, because my dad has a pickup truck (Chevy SSR) that is inspired by those trucks. I think the Echo Park (or maybe Carta Bella?) Marketplace lines use those a lot. Wolves with snow cones sounds like a winner. We'll see which scrapbook company jumps on that suggestion.

I like the ampersand trend, as my alma mater frequently uses an ampersand in communications - the College of William & Mary.
I wasn't as fond of many of the other trends though!! Depending on how they are styled, pineapples can be used for Colonial Williamsburg, as they are historically a symbol of hospitality.

Woodland creatures, gnomes, birds (put a bird on it), mermaids, unicorns, cameras (especially vintage cameras from different eras), animal print has come and gone a few times in the last two decades.

I have to admit I'm in love with the gnome trend. Flamingos is another recent one. I've been backing up some old pictures and I found I have actual flamingo pictures from 2007! Of course I scrapped them in 2008 when I didn't have anything flamingo related.

Recently (last few years) we've had a lot of bicycles and rain boots with flowers coming out of them. I'm waiting for porcupines with popcorn.

Sloths were big recently. Before that I think it was owls. And yes, llamas, which are my favorite. I stocked up on those.
I never did understand the chandelier thing. That seems to have come out of nowhere. I love the animals with nerd glasses. I’ve actually drawn them on some of my stamped images.

We also had swans not long time ago. I saw humming birds were in some collections which are cute. Hexagons, bows, chevrons had some love at some point. Grunge and chalkboard trend was here some time ago. I cannot imagine anything not recycled in the new collections but you never know if turtle with lemonade will be a new big thing.

I don't mind the trends if they don't stay too long. You are bound to find something you like if they keep them moving along. To be be fair, our pages would all look somewhat alike if we didn't get new trends every season.
I love me a sloth and and a llama. Woodland creatures are also fine with me. I am not a fan of coffee and housework icons, but they seem to sell just fine.

I really liked the owl thing. My daughter loves flamingos and it was a possible theme for their winter color guard show and they all dressed as flamingos multiple times.

Along with the chandeliers was birdcages and birds.
I too am sick of the coffee and housework icons - I don’t like either.

Ahh yes...the chandeliers and bird cages take me right back to Hambly Screenprints. Heidi Swapp also with the chandeliers.
Loved my Hambly transparencies though. ♥

Today I dug out an old bin of scrapbook stuff in search of a large circle paper punch I have had MIA and found all my old scrapbook bottle caps! I loved those bottle caps. Early naughts. Featured heavily in my firstborn’s baby book.

I think the chandeliers were part (or maybe the start of) the Paris chic trend? I remember my dd decorating her room in Ikea trendy and adding some Paris chic. I remember the recent sloth trend because I loved it. I loved all the sloth stamps and paper. I have enough now, so on to the next trend. Gnomes seem to be a big thing now. They were cute for Christmas, but I’m not sure how many gnomes I need year round. Thank goodness the mustache thing is over. So not my thing!!

In the 90s I went to a few elegant homes and purposefully saved some lovely chandelier papers just for those photos. I am very literal when it comes to using icons.
I used a beard paper for a photo of my son and bearded friends, and of course I grabbed that photo OP for that paper.
Gnomes and llamas are not going to get used by me, at least at this point.
I used quite a few mermaids but enough of those already. I used foxes a lot but son played a role play game and his team used a fox symbol.
Donuts never got any use by me. Neither did poop emoji.
I don't have any new icon ideas.

You just have buy things to match those random embellishments. I have always loved flamingos. Two summers ago I bought giant pink flamingo blowup swim toys for my grandchildren to use at the lake. BOOM! I have a use for all those flamingo embellishments.

I like the pineapples. My family are big Psych fans, so my daughter and I are always playing “find the pineapple” when we’re out and about. I even bought a pineapple punch just to be able to add more pineapples. I would love the next trend to be squirrels with cereal. I’m just picturing a red squirrel with a bowl of Froot Loops, and it makes me smile!

I am still doing a massive purge/reorg of my crafty area with 20+ years of supplies. I found a lot of these trendy icons in my stash, most that were in kits that I subbed to over the years. I have: Hambly chandelier and bird cage transparencies, owl and fox papers and stamps, ampersand papers and a huge chipboard cutout, bottle caps, mustache paper, llama paper and die cuts, tons of typewriter stuff. Am trying to stay away from gnomes if possible Also a ton of metal embellishments from Making Memories, license plate paper, lots of naked chipboard from Maya Road, etc. Word and phrase paper and embellies I will never use. Am really tired of the old fashioned pickup carrying Xmas trees, flowers, farm produce, etc. Am hoping this year's Christmas lines skip that trend (not that I need anymore Christmas paper

I like and collect the little campers and mason jars ...haven't used them yet. Right now I really love the bees.
I like the 'trends'...the mustache one, though I'm dying for masculine images, I did not 'get' either.
I was just thinking about chevrons, I don't think I've been seeing as many lately. I also really struggle to use plaids.
But since I scrapbook my grands, ages 11 to 4...bring on those mermaids, llamas, sloths, hedgehogs, unicorns, superheros...loving all of them.
For me, lately I find myself gravitating toward the softness of the Mintay line...like Webster Pages of old(which I collected and rarely used) ...maybe because I do scrapbook the grands and am getting tired of kid colors and images. So a chandelier, clawfoot tub, topiaries...other 'luxury' images may be something I would pick up.

Die cuts that can stay around forever... flowers/leaves stars hearts cameras butterflies bees
The rest can come and go. Rainbows and unicorns can just go.

In regards to the mustache trend - I scratched my head on that one. Then my sister brought my nephews for a visit and I have photo of us all wearing those stick on mustaches. I did my one mustache layout with my mustache pun title...and I'm done with it. I can't keep using mustaches! Once is plenty.

I loved Making Memories metals. I still have a bunch of them and I'm going to get them out and use them. I think it will be interesting to try incorporating them into modern style scrapping.
Everything used to be brads and eyelets, which I liked but I didn't like the extra processes needed to use them. I like enamel dots now- just stick it and done.
Mulberry paper, tearing, and chalking edges. I remember when that was in.
I love Hambly's screen prints and transparencies! They seemed really edgy for the time. I think I still have a few- I'm going to dig those out.
I have a massive amount of paper flowers. I don't know what I was thinking- I scrapbook boys. I still try to use them now and then- I need to get them out. I think this week is going to be about using some of my old stuff in new layouts. It sounds fun.
For a while we were using hexagons, and then chevrons. And geo markers were a trend.
I don't mind coffee- I'm a daily coffee drinker. I could use more beer stuff now. I don't understand all of the bubble tea. Is it really that popular?
I know gnomes are all over the place now. I do like them in that new Christmas line but I can't see using them in anything else.
So now we have: turtles with lemonade, wolves with snow cones, squirrels with cereal, porcupines with popcorn...
