I prefer traditional, but like messing around a bit with digital too. It's easy to blow just as much money with digital supplies so don't be fooled! I use PSE some, but bought My Digital Scraproom a few months ago because it's easier to organize my elements and photos with that, and I can also use it for some editing and making collages.
If you are going to buy PSE, get it from Costco if you can. Not only will you pay less but they usually throw in some awesome extras like bonus software and a coupon for 100 free 4x6 prints. Can't beat that! I get my 8x8 and 12x12 pages printed there and they look nice, plus it's way cheaper than paying for the ink to print at home. Once I did the math, I figured out it was a whole lot cheaper to let Costco do it for me and if I'm not happy with it they will reprint it for free.

I took some digital classes at jessicasprague dot com as well. I loved what I learned and have been able to use many of the things I learned when I had to do other digital projects. I did do some layouts and printed them at Costco. However, I really missed playing with paper and embellishments. I signed up for some classes on hybrid scrapping she did with Heidi Swapp, I never finished them. Work has kind of overtaken my life.

I used to print my 12 x 12s at Costco too and was always happy with the quality. However, I was paying $79 plus a year for the membership and layouts were about the only thing I bought there. So I tried a couple of on-line printers and found Scrapping Simply and Persnickity prints (links earlier in this thread) and found the quality equal and they are $1.00 less per print. They have $5.00 flat rate shipping too so I couldn't justify Costco any longer.

Shortly after I started digi scrapping, my husband surprised me with a large format Epson printer (EpsonStylus R1800, but this was back in 2006 so that's an old model) so I could print my layouts at home. I quickly realized that wasn't the most practical or cost-effective thing to do. The inks are CRAZY expensive, as is the photo paper, and quite honestly I always had trouble getting a good, quality photo out of that darn printer! It's much easier, more cost-effective and better result to get them done elsewhere (I use either Persnickety or Scrapping Simply).
Buying that printer was an expensive mistake (I'm sure my DH probably spent 300 or 400 dollars on the dang thing). I learned it's a good idea to not make a big purchase like that on a new hobby until you're really sure what you need.

Oh, there is plenty of shopping to be done in the digi world, and it's open 24/7! Trust me, between digital kits as well as computers, software, printers, etc., there's lots of money you can spend if you're not careful. I'd say you have nothing to lose by trying it out to see if you like it before you sell off all your supplies. That. Trust me! Plus stores release new stuff EVERY week not just four times a year or whatever. But it is instant gratification which is good. And there are so many more digital designers out there, at both the online digital stores and places like Etsy. You have a huge selection of different styles to choose from. My digital scrapping supply collection is enormous, but kept entirely on my iPad (and backed up online). It's very tidy and compact, which I love. I use my craft cutter and make cards and other paper crafts when I feel the need to get my hands dirty, but I'll never go back to traditional scrapping. I'm also another who no longer prints out my pages. Everything is kept digital, which my entire family has access to on their devices, and backed up in several places.

OR you could try going commercial-free, which I do. The only thing I use is fonts. Otherwise I create everything in my layouts using my own photos, techniques, and occasionally, artwork. Digital scrapbooking has been very inexpensive for me. The only thing I pay for is my software, scanner, and of course, my ginormous 17" MacBook Pro. I used to occasionally print at home & fill albums. Now when I print (which isn't often) I print at Costco.

There's soooooo much to buy with digital! (but you don't have to of course). I never thought I'd try digital but I did way back in late 2005 and never looked back. Have fun!

True, there is the membership fee. But we are there all the time buying groceries and stuff for the house so for me it makes sense. We have the executive membership ($110 a year) but with the 2% rebate on everything we buy plus the Costco Amex rebate, it more than offsets our membership fee. I really like the convenience of getting them the same day, patience isn't one of my better virtues!

I bought one of those too, I think that exact model, and almost choked when I realized how much each 12x12 layout would cost to print! The printer was around $500, it took six ink cartridges at $20-30 bucks apiece, and the paper was crazy expensive too. By comparison pretty much any retail photo printer will seem cheap. I think that now you can get big external ink tanks for those printers which would make it cheaper per page, but by the time I heard about that I'd already junked the printer and moved on.

I'm just too stupid to get digital. I bought PhotoShop Elements. Read tons of tutorials. Asked lots of questions. I did a year of digi scrapping only using quick pages and got a lot done that way (just insert photo). I couldn't tell you how to do the most basic things, though at one time I did and it took forever.
One thing I didn't like about printed digi pages was the flatness. The "metal" embellishments, ribbons, etc.. never looked realistic. I'm sure it's because I sucked!
I've now switched to scrapping using 12x12 divided sheet protectors. I like to look through an actual album, but don't care about being creative with pages. I think I've actually got more done that way. I've kept it simple and used Becky Higgins project life kits and minimal embellishing.

I still do my regular scrapbooks "traditional". However I started doing family calendars digital and was nervous about doing it. Now I love doing the calendars. I use the digital stuff for other projects like last year when my daughter had a concert birthday. It was just easier to make VIP passes for the invites on the computer! And you will horde digital product just as much however the space required is much easier to manage.
I still love the traditional scrapbooking so I am not giving that up soon!

For those who print your layouts are you able to print in the 12X12 format? What printer do you use? I upload my 12 x 12 layouts for printing at scrapping simply and Persnickity Prints. Both are $1.99 per layout and excellent quality. They run sales several times per year at $1.49 and I usually save my layouts up until a sale. I do this too. Save them up until Scrapping Simply has a sale and then I order them. I still want them printed and in albums. I do all three types- traditional, hybrid, and digital. I love all three ways! When I'm going to make a layout, I decide which method based on time, supplies I have in which format, etc. No worries on the shopping- plenty out there to buy!! i5ycex

I want to make the switch to digital too, but I feel completely overwhelmed with how far behind I am and the complete disorganization that I've let myself get into. I have lots of digital supplies and I've tried a few layouts and made some Shutterfly books that I really like. I'm using PSE 6, so that will tell you how out of date I am!
I want to sell/donate the majority of my regular stash that I know I will never use, but I start to panic when I think of all that will entail. It's just easier to shut the door to my scrap room! LOL

I loved making the switch from traditional to digital scrapbooking! It switched because I had no space for my paper supplies after we adopted our kids, and it was just easier at that time. Now I love all the techniques I can do with Digi. I second the advice to buy PSE from Costco, or you can also find it on sale at Amazon. Jessica sprague is my favorite teacher for digital scrapping classes...she is the best and her classes are well worth the moola you'll pay for them. I still love paper supplies, though...I use them for hybrid cards and art journaling...and I agree that you don't have to be exclusively traditional or digital...you can still like both! I love the fact that I never run out of adhesive at 11 pm and can buy more digital goodies at any time of the day or night...

Thanks so much! I am planning to post somewhere else, but I've been traveling and working so much since 2Ps closed, I haven't had the chance to check out my options.
