I don’t know Louie. His words are 100% reprehensible and I’ll never eat at chick-fil-a again.
I sometimes feel these men say things for his followers and then apologize for non-followers. That way they cover all bases. There is no truth in the apology. The damage has been done. The idea of white supremacy has not only been perpetuated, but now elevated to a blessing.
Disgusting. All of it.
Jesus was not white. I don’t know how long it will take them to hnderstand it. I am 100% sure that when he comes back, he will not be recognized because everyone in this country is expecting a white blond man.

This article by John Pavlovich popped up on my Facebook feed today. (My feed is filled with posts by John and Trevor Noah at the moment.) Louie Giglio, White Blessing, And The New Religious RightI will copy and paste the article for those who don't wish to click on a link: It's quite scary to think that this is the sort of garbage that is being spewed to a whole new generation of young people in the US. Why are they not turning away from this kind of message? Read the book “Democracy In Chains”. The introduction is enough to scare the shut out if you. Reading the book, (it’s by a historian) you’ll see exactly what the current administration is doing, and what Papalovich says in his article is just a small part of all of it.

He apologized nearly immediately linkHe’s only sorry because he got backlash from it. I’ll bet his income stream slowed down. Those types of “mega church” pastors are nothing but charlatans who have a method of swaying people for their own personal al benefit.

His apology is as sickening to me as are the words he’s trying to take back. Can’t even look at his sad ugly face or hear his pitiful voice on the edge of tears. No forgiveness from me. And the other two are just as guilty, sitting and politely agreeing so as not to make a fuss. Hate all organized religions. ) While my jaw dropped when the guy said ‘blessings of slavery’ and my initial reaction was how can Lecrae just sit there like that and not react. Then I walked my reaction back a step or two, after I listened to Lecrae’s statement on it. ( I posted it above ) I’ve had a lifetime of the freedom to gawk open mouthed at the stupid crap white people can say. My white privilege has afforded me that all these years. I don’t think I have the right to invalidate Lecrae or his reaction or his explanation. As a black man I’m sure his experience with the outrageous racist crap white people say has been different than my experiences.

Once upon a time, before he was famous, I knew Louie Giglio. This one was hard for me because it's not who I thought I knew. It grieved me to see what he said and to see his apology. I do believe his heart is broken. I believe he is remorseful and I believe it's for more than “just” “using the wrong words.” (Not saying that’s all or what he did). I believe his words came from a place of bad theology, and heart biases that maybe he didn't even know he had. I hope that's what he's sorry for. But yes, out of the heart the mouth speaks so his words did reveal some deeply wrong beliefs. I've said things before that I then go, "wow, where did that come from?" and I've had to really take an inward look at what is was rooted in that I might not have even known was there. Whether he knew it was there or not, I hope he's taking that inward look. As a white man, he shouldn't be leading this conversation anyway. He should be listening and learning. Well, let’s hope he goes forward With some deep self reflection that he was in a place where he could think the thoughts he revealed. That he learns from that with an open heart. And asks others to lead where he might best follow I’ve found a whole lot of things to make myself reflect deeply on my reactions to things. What he said has left me looking a little deeper at things & my own thoughtless reactions & spending time with self reflection and learning. May I go forward from this learning with an open heart.

If this ass wanted to really understand, do you think he might have done a better panel than the fast-food guy and a rapper?
What about a Black Studies expert, an author in the subject, people who advocate for #BLM, those who've given over years of their lives to the study of systemic racism from a societal, economic, psychological or other interesting angle!?!?
Nope, old white guy thinks he can talk to another old white guy and a single black rapper, and get to some deeper understanding of systemic racism.

Typical Karen response - "I know blacks have been systemically disenfranchised for 400 years, but come on! Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!"

Typical Karen response - "I know blacks have been systemically disenfranchised for 400 years, but come on! Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" Yup, I mean, don't you know that the second the Civil Rights Act was signed, everything was perfect for "the black." smdh-it must take a lot of energy to continue to be that clueless.

I'm scared to look at the hashtag white blessing. Has anybody looked? Is it as bad as I think it will be?

Please tell me that blondie was hauled over the coals for that tweet in the comments? I don't know that I can take it this morning if there are hundreds of people agreeing with her.

I used to go to Passion City Church. (I moved) I have no idea what he was trying to say, and I know that it sounded horrible, but I honestly think his intentions were good but he said whatever he was trying to say in a horrific way. That church welcomes everybody...it’s one of the reasons I went there. They don’t pretend everybody is perfect. I’m not trying to defend him b/c I have no idea what he meant, just that from what I personally know, I can’t imagine that he meant to say something to hurtful.

To both not know what he was trying to say yet be confident his intentions were good doesn’t compute. As long as someone keeps coming to the defense of white men they will continue to behave like white men do.

He has no business leading a panel on race w/himself, a fast-food white multi-millionaire and a single black rapper. If he wants to learn about racism he should STFU and LISTEN more and TALK less. Same old mansplaining and whitesplaining the world is not going to get us to anything useful.

This post had me kind of down yesterday, but then I saw this twitter response from Lisa Sharon Harper ( @lisaharper on twitter) (LOVE HER!) and I felt so much better. Thought I would share it with you. If you don't want to click on the link, here is her response (how do insert an actual twitter screen shot or response, btw?) Dear .@louiegiglio, with this thread I follow the example of Paul, who publicly rebuked Peter in book of Galatians when Peter tried to placate the faction called judaizers by practicing segregation. Your championing of the term #whiteblessing in reference to #slavery is SIN. 1/ Your sin against Black people, especially women, was public. Therefore, your rebuke must also be public. For, you are an international leader. People of European descent and BIPOC in your network will follow your lead into sin, if you are not corrected publicly. 2/ #whiteblessing I intend to do 3 things in this thread: 1) correct your thinking on white privilege and white “blessing,” 2) suggest a 3rd term that is the essence of this entire set-up: #WhitePatriarchy, 3) reflect for a moment on the impact of your sin. 3/ #whiteblessing First, slavery was neither white blessing, nor #whiteprivilege. To call it either term is to imagine God as the one who mysteriously bestowed said “blessing” and/or “privilege” onto His benevolent, innocent White race. 4/ #whiteblessingBoth blessings and privileges are given. They do not magically appear out of thin air. God gives blessings. In scripture, God blesses those who do what is just and good. Parents give privileges to children who do well. 5/ #whiteblessing #whiteprivilege By calling slavery #whiteblessing or #whiteprivilege, you attempt to conscript God as a co-conspirator in the abhoration of human hierarchy. You attempt to make #whiteness God’s responsibility; aligning God with the very setup that wages war against God’s image on earth. 6/ It was not blessing that built the foundations for your empire, sir. It was serial murder, rape, breeding farms, mass family separation, mass lynchings, exploitation of labor/ land, thumbs on the scales of law, redlining and gerrymandering. 7/ #whiteblessing #White Privilege bore your “whiteblessings”—your money, your houses, your private jets, your banks, your universities, your political power, your two-car garages, your stucco homes, your CEO positions and salaries. SIN bore the shirt on your back. God had NOTHING to do with it. 8/ The word you are looking for is #whitepatriarchy. It imagines a world designed by God where white men are created to rule all else. Then it builds, protects and enforces that world through military and police force, rape, law, money and lots of golf. 9/ #whiteblessing Mr. @louiegiglio, the impact of your unwillingness to call a thing a thing, is that SIN is given the cover of sanitized language. What will it take for you to do what you claim to do? What will it take for you to lead—Into true repentance? 10/10 #whiteblessing #WhitePrivilege
