Yep! I was quite surprised to realise a few years back that most of my favourite designers don't actually design! Someone who actually designs their collections explained to me that there's 'faceless' in house designers, while the name gets the credit.. think MH, Dear Lizzy... Some do their own lettering.
Being an employed graphic designer for a popular brand is not a bad day job. Not everyone wants their name to be a household word. Nice work if you can get it. That's a good point. I guess I just found it a bit misleading that the big names aren't the actual designer.

She was just mentioning that it's not even MH's own work but other designers that AC rebrands as Maggie Holmes stuff. Basically, she's not boycotting the actual artist of those lines. She then went on to show other stuff you can buy from other brands like the Spanish designer (Lemon Pie collection) where there's no hiding of the real artist behind a trendy person's name for marketing purposes. She was denouncing the hypocrisy of the MH brand name in passing. Thanks sleepingbooty for your linguistic skills! Your explanation is so helpful to those of us whose Spanish just doesn't stretch to being able to understand the detail.

ETA: Listening to @clara_no_sabe_cortar_derecho's own thoughts on the issue in Spanish right now and it's clear that she's over this white privileged stance of walking away and not saying a thing when a major social upheavel is happening about a subject that doesn't affect you directly while using the excuses Maggie did which were in her comments (screenshot in those IG stories Clara posted) such as wanting to take time to reflect, asking God for guidance. Essentially, taking time off while the subject is hot so you don't have to get involved in it. That right there is the privilege these women are calling out and rightfully so. Imagine if all the rebels who changed the world had done the same. Yah, welcome to the extended version of the feudal Middle Ages. Now's the time to speak up and lend support even if it's an imperfect, work in progress type of support. very good point! I appreciate your responding and putting it in those terms, sleepingbooty . I agree with mom; she could have said it so much better than she did.

I started a discussion about this on the NSBR side. She is not doing well within the planner community

I am a bit upset at her followers who she works with (gives free products to). Happily A House Wife, who I follow, posted this... http://instagram.com/p/CBlSLB8H9pW No hashtag. No @ EC or EC's real IG account. A few small supporters who get free stuff decided to post the same message and same photo. What are they waiting for? This isn't EC's firs offense. And like 5 of them posted that. Sam didn't even tag or hashtag EC. It's like she wants to be like look at me, I am baking away but not really. UGH.

I guess I just found it a bit misleading that the big names aren't the actual designer. Michael Kors doesn’t actually sew any purses. Michael Jordan doesn’t assemble any shoes. Bobby Flay doesn’t cook all the tacos. Joanna Gaines doesn’t bake the cupcakes. The President doesn’t sign his name to all the Christmas cards. 😜

I'm guessing, from a couple of her replies to comments on this post, that she chose NOT to put any erin condren hashtags or tag her, ON PURPOSE. She says that every time she shows one of those products in her posts, adds the hashtags, etc. that she drives traffic to erin condren, her products, and her site. So I'm guessing she chose NOT to include any erin condren-related hashtags on purpose to NOT drive any business or traffic to her.

I think MH just made the mistake of posting vague and confusing word vomit when she should have chosen to just shut up. It'll be fine. Becky Higgins does it all the time
If MH wanted to take a social media break, she should have done so quietly. The act of posting it turned it into a stance, forcing her readers to have an opinion about it.
It was stupidity, not malice. Nowhere near the level of awfulness that EC exhibited.

Clara also tagged the three designers that have worked on MH collections over the years. If you like the MH x Crate Paper aesthetic, you may want to follow them instead of following MH since they are the actual artistic source. Here they on IG (thanks to @clara_no_sabe_cortar_derecho's IG stories): @ missyhealyturner @ lauren_waltman @ jlsimmons I had absolutely no clue that MH was just a face to those designs and NOT the actual designer!

It's amazing how quickly a civil rights movement has shown the true colors of so many people. However, I think this was more of an injection of religion where it doesn't need to be instead of anything malicious. I hope so, anyway.

I had absolutely no clue that MH was just a face to those designs and NOT the actual designer! I once watched a video of her showing her newest collection and she didn't even know what the designs were on some of the papers! It was painful to watch...

I’ve seen a worse statement than what MH said by a planner tool designer and zero fallout. So I guess it’s who sees what & where wether you get called out on it. But I think if your sole job is figurehead or mouthpiece for a brand with your name on it you have a responsibility to watch what you say publicly. It’s part & parcel of ‘selling’ your name so malice intended or not MH brought the controversy on herself by not properly vetting a public statement. Which as a ‘figurehead’ is the whole essence of her job. There is a higher standard you have to adhere to simply by selling your name as a brand.

This is why it’s important to call these “professionals” out. I feel like we have a responsibility to call out any anti BiPoc companies/people unless we want the rampant racism to continue. I’ve been very mindful of where I put my money and I’ve also helped my husband peel back the layers of ingrained racism which is no small feat. We love the show Roseanne and when she made her comments that got her fired he couldn’t understand why. Any time any “little” (in his opinion) comment gets made I say “THAT. THATS why”. We as a whole have to call these people out. We have to stand together if there’s any hope of an equal society. I am happy to call out any company who aligns with hate-posting on reddit is a great place to start because then the blind accounts on insta will pick it up. And from there, millions of followers see it. So my measly 400 followers might not be impressive, but if we pass these facts on to bigger names, that voice can help change things.

And regarding Maggie’s faux pas-if you’re so privileged that you can’t say what you feel without being offensive-shut the fvck up. You’re just perpetuating the racism. “My kids have black friends” is like racism 101. My husbands best is black. So surely he isn’t racist right. Wrong. And me as well. I didn’t realize how ingrained it was in our belief system until George Floyd. And b I am not ashamed to admit that. I’m ashamed If I don’t try to change things in my circle. That’s what is shameful.

Ps I’m sorry if I’m being soap boxy. I’m just tired of the scrapbook community getting a pass because it’s not as big or we’ll known as the fashion industry and because of ignorant little Mormon mommies hiding behind their sheltered little life and expecting us to be ok with that.
