"Black Wall Street" rings a bell for me. I came from a pretty liberal area in NY's suburbs. I don't recall studying it at all in school. My children don't recall Juneteenth at all, which is surprising. They've studied so many cultures, religions, historical events....... yet they don't recall this.
Strangely, here in FL, we got a notice from our mgmt office that they'd close early today for Juneteenth. We've been here for over 9 years and they have NEVER mentioned this as a holiday. After hearing Trump say that he created Juneteenth's interest, now I have to wonder if part of that is true in some areas!?
Also wondering why most of our public schools would study the Holocaust and other tragedies and yet gloss over this?

I remember bulletin boards in elementary and middle school (suburb of Detroit; no hint of it in HS in So NV) always having Juneteenth displays at the end of the school year, but I thought it commemorated the end of slavery, not the last slaves finally being freed. I don't recall ever having an actual lesson on it, just some displays. It was a Black-ish episode that enlightened me to what it really was. We watched it again tonight as a family on Hulu (S4 E1 Juneteenth).

My time of knowledge isn't in the poll -- I've known about Juneteenth since undergrad -- now over 40 years.

This will now be a national holiday! I have heard of it but didn't know there were celebrations!
ETA: I grew up in Southern MD....

Probably 15 years or so ago. I lived in Central California and there was a small farming community, Allensworth. It was the only California town to be founded, financed and governed by African Americans. It's a state park now and every year they have a large Juneteenth Event. I happened to be driving by it one year and saw all the people out there - I looked it up and that's the first time I had ever heard of the day and what it was about. Allensworth State Park.

I went to grad school in Texas in the early 80s - I've known about it since then.

I picked "as far back as I can remember," but that isn't totally accurate. I learned about it in the 80s when I was in college. The first option seemed closer to my reality than "sometime in the last 10 years."
ETA: I should clarify that I was aware of the date and it's significance. I didn't know how widespread the celebrations were in African American communities until more recently, probably in the last 20 years or so.

I didn't know it was a celebration per se, because it hasn't been celebrated like the 4th or even MLKJ day in the PNW, but I remember learning about it in 5th Grade as part or our Civil War studies. I have known since then what it was and the date.

I've known for the last 20 years or so because of some friends who celebrated. I think it's wonderful its a national holiday now, as it should be. Remarkable day like that should be memorialized.

I didn't vote - I think sometime in my teens (1980s), probably in high school, I first heard of it. It's only been recently that I've heard of celebrations locally though - definitely was one last year here for sure.

This is such a timely topic for me today. My University announced it would close tomorrow for the new holiday, and my department sent a calendar invite to add the holiday to our Outlook calendar! I was planning to work in the office tomorrow, but now I guess I'll enjoy my day getting ready for a yardsale next weekend.
